I do really mean it guys. Giving up should never been an option. If we gave up every time things got hard or out of our control we would have nothing to celebrate about. The best sense of accomplishment comes after doing something that seemed impossible. When everything goes perfect is easy to stick to the plan. So never give up… regardless how small or big that accomplishment could be.
Good stuff big bro - actually this might be my favorite of your videos. We always learn more from our failures than from our wins and you turned this into a win I work in education and always tell my students “experience is the best teacher”. Keep it up my guy - I always appreciate the work you put into these vids, they super motivational!
I'm from an area that's flat like Florida and race a lot of gravel / xc with tons of climbing and got that climbing back pain too. For me I found getting back in to doing posterior chain strength work like deadlifts helps. It's just a group of muscles we never get to use on flats.
Great job persisting in a tough race and overcoming all the challenges … I’m so impressed with your detailed approach to training/racing while also appreciating the different locations and race formats.
Omg Dennis. I did the same course and had the exact same thoughts at the same places. The descent on the sand was so demoralizing with all the random mechanicals I’ve had up to that point. I thought about quitting at the Hayden feed zone but glad I didn’t. Never quit!!
Your back pain and lack of power experiencing could be coming from saddle tilt. It looked like positive 1 degree and going up hill for long time is recipe for disaster as you naturally tip even more back and restrict power generation. On flat it probably not as much noticeable. Great video as always 🤙
Thx brother. I run all my saddles around -2. The issue pushing power is because of the back pain. It gets to a point where it limits the amount of force I can put on the pedals. That’s something I been dealing with just cant figure it out and is exactly the same riding here in the flats not just when going up hill. Hopefully I can get it figured out. It will be an awesome step forward because I feel it really limits my performance.
Don't you think that backpain was because of the hydration pack? I hate racing with it, last time I've tried a had backpain until I zeroed the bladder. Also the liquid inside just gets warm too fast and drinking it is the worst. U think I'm done with backpacks and will consider frame hydration pack
Yeah man I’m actually considering that because you aren’t the first one that bring it up and I do get it riding on the flats sometimes here in Fl but not nearly as bad as at sbt and unbound and the fact that it goes away after half way makes sense because the hydration pack is empty.
@@DennisGonzalez101 and I am a big guy. 187cm 85kg all muscles, I was lifting weights for over 15 years and still those 2kg on my back are killing me. Had some problems with my lower back in the past but it was not existend for last few years, but it comes back with the backpack. I guess hydration pack is not for everyone.
@@kubackjeee wow thx for that info. I do get it even when I ride without a hydration pack but not even close to as bad as on these gravel races. Also gravel racing is a lot harder as far as the force you have to put through the pedals to move because of the resistance of the terrain so I think that has a lot to do with it because is not nearly as bad on road riding where you can pedals at a faster cadence.
Thx for the recommendation brother. That is a very fair point. It seems to be worse during gravel races and this one even worse than unbound and I did carry this hydration pack full for hours before i actually was able to drink out it of. Fair point thanks 🙏.
Better pick up your bottles. This is not a road race, everyone could be in technical troubles, and you will have opportunity to reach them. My hard moment is riding 600km brevet were at last 150km there was a heavy rain. My mate gave it up, and I made it solo on a buisy road all wet (very hard mentally)
Yeah i definitely regret not turning back after, I was still only 25 or so miles in and chasing to get back in the group, that’s what I decided not too. That’s what I love about this long events. You really need to be mentally though which sometimes is harder than physical fitness. Great work as well on not giving up. 600k is a lot of kms 🤪.
@@DennisGonzalez101 I still don't know how you climb coming from Florida and all. Great content and really videos overall. It's always good to see and hear about the struggles one goes through an event like that. Man vs Man!
@@arvandero haha yeah I think I’ll be a lot better if i actually lived somewhere with climbs in sure it helps a lot but at the end of the day it comes down to wether you have the legs or not you know and watts are watts either on the climb or flats. I’m actually working on editing the video of that first entire climb with power overlay and Holly smokes it was crazy man. The amount of power I had to do on those steep spots was crazy at 8000 feet of elevation because of my gearing. Some spots go above 20%. I’ll have it up soon just wait for it it’s going to be entertaining I promise 🤣.

Wow, that sounds so hard mentally. What a remarkable comeback, considering all of the difficulties! Always worth watching your content until the end!
Thank you so much I appreciate you watching and always the positive feedback 🙏.

Glad to know I wasn’t the only one suffering there 😂. It sucked for sure. Way to keep grinding and not quitting man. Props 🙏🤙🏽.

Thank you 🙏.
Great job on the video and the ride!
Thanks 🙏.
You definitely could have won age group with better luck! Every race you learn more and more as you get more experience

What brand of lube? Also what saddle. Nice video. :)
Thx. I used a wax chain with SILCA and silca drip wax the day before the race. Saddle is a prologo NDR. 143mm.
So bottom line here...make sure you get Covid before a race?

Should have left the GF at home; by practicing semen retention you would have placed higher. Protect your energy at all costs.
Lmao the only issue I had with fluid retention was keeping my bottles on the cages lmaoo. Aside from that I was good 🤣🤣.
