- A new idea for 2025 - What do you think?
I call it " SSM Day" - Save a Survey Mark Day.
On a day to be announced, I encourage all Surveyors worldwide, whether you're on the job or not, to go out an explore your local area and find, fix, paint, re-instate and protect a survey mark.
A coat of paint, some ribbon, a tag on a fence, a steel box over a mark or some way to make finding the mark easier for the next Surveyor. You can also co-ordinate the mark if not so, with your GPS.

The biggest cost to a surveyor these days is not in time it takes to survey the property or project, its finding the survey marks that define the boundaries or to establish a datum.
Whilst we dig up or find some survey marks and we give those a coat of paint or tie some ribbon to help find it, it doesn't hurt to give some love to the survey marks that were never used.
What do you think?
People can post a video or photo of the marks they find.
Make others in community aware of the local survey marks and help protect them.

Value to the next Surveyor is Priceless!
I live in the upper midwest and as a kid, I found around 20 of the old 1940's USGS survey reference point markers over the years. We had 3-wheelers plus bailed township and county section line roadways every summer)
What was interesting is once that I figured out the grid pattern I noticed many more were missing either due to removal or possibly having been silted under over the years.
That is a really interesting observation - thanks for sharing! Thanks for following the channel.
