    this is absolutely the most underrated hairloss channel, it's for the people who actually want to do something about their hairloss instead of the "JUST SHAVE IT BRO" baldcafe type channels.

      Not trying to be a hater or a fan of bald cafe
      But sometimes shaving is better than being of fina, minox etc when ur NW 4 or worse..without hair transplant most are useless..
      This is best channel for Nw1-3 guys who want to save what they have

      Andrew Exactly, as smart and helpful as Kevin may be, it is true that for an important amount of people (even if it is 6 or even 2%) finasteride will cause significant side effects that just aren’t worth the risk. So for those people and for people like me who just are not willing to take the risk (which are plenty) channels like baldcafe are very helpful and inspiring. Not taking away anythin* from this channel, it is very informative, but some medical solutions are just not for everyone.

      I agree but you shouldn’t insult someone for their choice (I know Kevin does it too and I don’t get it). I wish I’d been born with the “just shave it bro” mentality. I’d be a much happier person than I am dealing with side effects, getting HTs and being super happy at first and then upset when I keep losing more hair.

    It’s good having this side of the debate on UA-cam. I find these videos and the bald cafe videos the best out there, because they don’t try and scare you. You just get facts. Kevin gives the science and the facts behind hairloss treatments, and Harry over at Bald Cafe let’s you know that even if you do decide to go bald, it’s not the end of the world. Personally I’m fighting for what I have now, I feel with modern medicine you should at least try and delay the onset of going completely bald. And being relatively young (23) I would at least like to keep what I have for a few more years. But if I can’t save it, then it’s ok. Because at the end of it all, with or without hair, I know I’ll have tried and I’ll be happy. Might have to invest in a few more hats though. Keep doing what you do Kevin, you provide a lot of mental strength for people going through this shit where a lot of people just offer horror and fear.

    • @SerbianMeerkat
      @SerbianMeerkat 4 роки тому

      Grim Reaper Maybe 23 is very young, but by today’s standards it’s actually not as bad as it used to be. Current research is suggesting that the current age for the onset of male pattern baldness is actually decreasing for some reason (there’s a few theories floating about but nothing concrete). What I’ve started to lose is at the back, so I wouldnt have even ever noticed if it hadn’t been for a botched haircut 4-5 years ago. I’m lucky in the sense that mines not coming out at a rapid rate (yet), it’s been very slow (barely any change from when I first spotted it) so I’ve still got a ways to go until Norwood V. I’ll do what I can to try and save it, and Kevin’s videos make a welcome change from the majority of scare mongering videos/articles that are floating around online. At the end of the day though if I’m one of the unlucky ones and I can’t save it, then I feel as if I’d be ok to embrace the baldness. I thank Kevin for the information he gives and the support he provides on hairloss products, but I also thank Harry at baldcafe for making going bald a far less scary scenario than it was for me.

    • @SerbianMeerkat
      @SerbianMeerkat 4 роки тому

      Grim Reaper yeah I do agree with the point on Harry. Like, it’s good to know that life goes on even if you do get to the point where you can’t save your hair and have to go full skin head, but some of the guys I see shaving their heads on there aren’t even balding that badly. Hell, some of them could probably get away with just using minoxidil and they’d probably go back to having relatively normal hair again. And yeah totally, at 23 I’m not just going to roll over and take this I’m going to fight for it until I can’t fight anymore, and Kevin’s vids give me the motivation and the confidence to fight instead of just giving up and not trying. Kevin and Harry both just make a welcome change from the normal fear mongerers out there who try and scare people out of even trying to save their hair. I’ve seen people claim that minoxidil (not even finasteride) stopped their dick from working, which I can tell you from 5-6 years of studying medicine is (in technical terms) horse shit. the Internet is just full of people who want to ruin things for everybody else because they had a bad experience.

Then I tried it again (difference now is that I’m going to the gym doing squats and other exercises. Overall more active) I don’t have NOT ONE side effect anymore. the main thing is to go to the gym or exercise (natural testerone booster) while you’re on this. I love your intensity. You clearly have a sharp intelligence also. Something that is rare nowadays in new generations. You think a lot and have a lot on your mind. It's also rare. I like that. I've been on Minoxidil for around a year now. Mostly for Beard use. It only works if I'm using 1mm Derma rolling though. Since my collagen layers are so thick in the skin that the follicles lay much deeper. 0.25mm - 0.5mm Derma rollers together with Kirkland 5 % Just didn't work as people claimed, so, took me time to get to this point of conclusion seeing progressively micro results with 1mm Derma roller along with Kirkland or Tugain. I'm 41 years btw. I have thought of finasteride but heard about the libido problems And got paranoid this age when im doing Strongman and getting older. Tugain 10% is also much better but hard to get hold of lately. Now, I get a headache if I don't take minoxidil in two days. Properly the vasodilator attributes. You think this Saw Palmetto is worth investing into? I fear to get bald at some point, as most of my ancestors did earlier than me though. It's hard to apply on the scalp when having 66 cm hair like me. I can barely make 1.5 ml fill out my beard line for that sake and my scalp is larger. Your hair looks very full though. How old were you when experiencing hair loss? Did you regain some hairs? I thought I went bald when 19 also but the hairline moved so slowly that I couldn't proclaim that in hindsight here. Us Nordics have tall sloping foreheads anyhow and some people think automatically its a sign of balding. It's really informative your video. What are your views on Hairguard and More Plates More Dates youtube channels? They really sometimes makes things much more complicated. I shall sub you, young man. The first video I've ever seen from you. You have that hyperbolic good-hearted energy of virtue though profound truth in your message you get across vehemently. @haircafekevin  4 роки тому +10

      Hey, thank you and no problem.
      3 mg of finasteride spread throughout the week is effective. Lots of doctors will recommend 0.5 mg a day or even every other day as it mitigates sides but it's still effective.
      Jojoba oil is the best moisturizer imo as it is chemically very similar to sebum our skin priduces.
      Peppermint oil won't do anything sadly. Made a video where I addressed it in my 5 overrated hair loss treatments video.

    I love your channel, and I appreciate your objective perspective on this. That being said, there is absolutely no question in my mind that minoxidil can cause face bloating and thus the appearance of deeper lines (wrinkles) under the eyes or on the forehead. This does not apply to everyone, but it does to me and plenty of people I've encountered online. I happily used and defended minoxidil for 5 years but I cannot anymore. It made my skin look like absolute garb after about 3-4 years of use. I quit recently because I noticed day-by-day (literally) worsening of certain wrinkles under my eye. I do not smoke or drink and my diet is really good because it basically has to be for me to live (primary hypertension). When I quit minoxidil, which was the only variable I changed, my skin bounced back in about 4-5 months and it hasn't looked this good in years. I appreciate you bro, but minoxidil wrecking people's skin is no myth.

    I’m on my first month of finasteride after noticing thinning of my hairline, mostly the corners which made me realize it was male pattern baldness. Since finasteride is used to prevent future hair loss not regrow hair and my main problem is thinning of the hairline, should I incorporate minoxidil to my routine? Or should I wait 6 months and see what kind of results finasteride yields and then decide if I need to add minoxidil as well?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  4 роки тому +1

    I've been on finasteride ONLY for 7 months I hasn't done anything. Looked online and it was the same for everyone UNLESS its combined with minoxidil. After watching this video, I'm guessing you need both for hair growth. Minoxidil for hair growth and finasteride to KEEP that hair growth is that what you're saying pretty much? Also I'm kinda hesitant on using minoxidil. Does minoxidil hurt your healthy hairs if it touches it? I'm a diffuse thinner.

    • @Tony78432
      @Tony78432 4 роки тому

      dsgrsggjgfj finasteride does not retain hair grown with minoxidil. Minoxidil is almost like a bandaid. It may work while taken but hairs grown with minoxidil and entirely reliant on the minoxidil. Finasteride, DHT blockers, and topical anti-androgens are much more effective for slowing and potentially regrowing hair. Minoxidil doesn’t address the root of hair loss, it only accelerates the hair growth process.

If you stop using minoxidil while still and continue using fin, you will lose all your minoxidil gains. You have to be patient. Hope this helps you.

    I used it on my beard and the beard gains were permanent. The same was true for a friend of mine. It's even more apparent for him, because prior to minoxidil he didn't have any hair on his cheeks/jaw.
    Also it gave me chest hair and hand hair that never went away. And I was already in my early 20s so it can't be a puberty thing.
    But maybe when it comes to the hair on your head the gains aren't permanent.

But if you have genetic hair loss, minox, or any other hair loss treatment, doesn’t give you permanent hair, exactly because there is no cure but only treatments. When you stop the treatment, there is nothing to prevent the hair loss mechanisms. Furthermore, minox doesn’t treat the root of hairloss, which is hormonal and has to do with dht. That means that even if you never stop applying minoxidil, male pattern baldness will eventually catch up with you. Simply put, minox gives you permanent hair follicles on the rest of your body because there is no hormonal mechanism that causes your follicles to die off. Your scalp is a different story though.The hair stays as long as you keep it alive with treatments. You can’t use a treatment for a year and then expect it to be permanent, because keeping it alive (once baldness begins), is a daily process. Think of treatments being life support for your hair. The most effective is finasteride but I personally don’t want to play with my hormones. That is why I am using minoxidil, even though I know it’s effectiveness won’t last forever.

It was my hope that my beard would continue to grow and get better as I get a bit older but I’m afraid taking finasteride will stop the production of DHT to the point of no more beard growth or even beard loss. • @haircafekevin

      Thanks and I think if you are already on fin then no, pantostin aka alfatradiol won't cause a shed because it works similarly.
      As for if it suppresses testosterone on the scalp, it's possible since it is an estrogen and estrogen is an indirect anti testosterone but it's only been proven to suppress DHT.

    Dear Kevin, hi!
    I will be extremely thankful to you for the advice because I have no idea how to proceed.
    I am living in Austria and I am not able to get the Finasteride prescription from the doctors. I have visited 2 dermatologists, 2 urologists, house doctor to redirect me to them. I am 25 male, balding since 19.
    I have tried once again this week and have discussed the Finasteride topic with 3rd derma because his website said he uses it to treat males with alopecia.
    His proposal is to start Minoxidil first, give it 4-5 months, and if it doesn't work then start Finasteride. I asked him to start fin together with min, he said no, because then "we will don't know if Minoxidil works". Opposite to starting fin first he also didn't want to do so.
    I assume he doesn't want to give fin because I am still young and he mentioned he wants to check if minox itself is enough.
    I also asked him about the minox cancel, he said it's not a problem, despite to the things I heard from people and saw in the Internet.
    What should I do? I have a Minoxidil prescription that gives some discount on it at pharmacies. I didn't tell him I use RU58, it goes ok, so, maybe, minox + RU is a good idea? Or should I again wait month-two for the different doctor? (Local insurance locks you to the specific doctor for the quarter and waiting times are like 1.5-2 months).
    I am currently doing since January like this based on your recommendations: ~30mg RU58841, 2ml Alfatradiol, 2ml Stenoxydine, GHK-CU serum, Ordinary Redensyl, Serum with oils blend, Microneedling 1.5mm 1x a week, Ketoshampoo, 2% MSM, NAC, Saw Palmetto, Biotin 10000, some combined pills for man. This is the first approach that gives positive results. I got darker hair in 3 months, some already longer new hairs, and lots of small ones around. Giving time to it. But, I really want to try Fin because of some great results I see on the Reddit.
    Personally, I am afraid of Minoxidil more than Finasteride, because I don't want to lose the current gains, also, that it's a trap for a long time. Also, I am aware of these claims about skin aging, preassure jumps, and that it might stop working after the years.
    The problem with RU is I am not able to correctly observe heart palpitations because of my intensive works, stress and I am very emotional. I have had them before ru for a long time, during the RU day, and it's a bit better on the weekend when I skip RU for the microneedling.
    How would you proceed? Should I follow him and start Minox or try again somewhere else?
    Thank you in advance!

      No problem and there is no reason to start minoxidil if you're already getting great results with finasteride.
      Our body's don't build up a resistance to the drugs but some people's hair follicles get more sensitive to DHT as they get older, that is the theory at least so that explains why some people lose ground even while on treatment after several years. There are people who have been using treatment for decades with no losses though.

    Just subscribed, wishing I'd discovered your channel years ago. However, I'd like to know your thoughts on how diet, lifestyle and stress affect hair health and how to identify what's really causing someone to lose hair. Androgens aside, it seems logical that lack of nutrients, allergens/inflammation, poor blood circulation, and stress hormones will contribute to hair loss. Therefore, adopting a healthy life style ought to be part of any hair growth treatment. I feel like I'm paying the price for not watching my diet... We all know the slob with a full head of hair, but certainly you must admit that for some guys the first step is changing what they eat and what they do.

      Thank you for subscribing and welcome!
      Extreme stress can cause hair loss via telogen effluvium but it has to be pretty atypical stress such as the type of stress you'd get from a traumatic injury or a drug addiction. Its also not permanent unlike with androgenic alopecia.
      Nutritional deficiencies can cause hair loss but only in extreme circumstances such as starvation. Blood circulation isn't an issue because even in the cases of extreme hypertension people will still have enough blood flow to the scalp to keep the hair alive. If there were a lack of blood flow to the scalp people would die of a stroke before they'd have to worry about their hair follicles not getting sufficient blood supply. You can be the pinnacle of good health and be bald and there are obese smokers with full heads of hair.
      By all means people should care for their health but they shouldn't do so thinking that is what will save their hair. Baldness is not a sign of poor physical health.

      @@haircafekevin Your channel is great for no-bs information on androgenetic hair loss treatments but I think you should be careful not to dismiss other health factors simply because it's not backed up with verifiable double blind studies yadayadayada.
      Frankly I'm not convinced that cutaneous circulation in the scalp has nothing to with hair loss, even if it's extremely minor. Is hypertension even related to that?? Claiming that reduced cerebral blood flow and stroke will occur before hair loss is way overboard so give me a break there. I'm also not convinced that diet and lifestyle aren't factors in at least delaying MPB because it all affects how our cells age and how our bodies produce hormones. Unfortunately I think that's something that starts having an effect at a young age. Our western diets have been wrecking out guts for decades now. Compare it to Asian diets and the amount of bald heads over there and you have to wonder if something is going on. Sure there are obese smokers with hair but I suspect they're the exception. I'm definitely not saying that it's worth buying stupid head massage bands and other snake oil shit, but I just find it strange you don't even even mention diet and lifestyle changes as no-cost tools in the fight to keep our hair.
      Obviously there's no getting around androgenetic hair loss and it sucks that it hits some guys harder than others. I won't deny that things like finasteride and minoxidil are basically the best thing we have and I'm finally going to start taking fin though I fear it may be too late. But in addition to fin I'm also finally committing to no fast food, no dairy, and reducing other inflammatory foods that I've been wrecking myself with for decades now. Hopefully in 3-5 months things will turn around in more ways than one.

You only need 10-20 MG or so and anything more than that gives my research subject side effects.

    Hi Kevin. Core question is there any value for the effort to try Minox?
    Background: Been on Fin for 20 y. NW 2 ish. So just a bit of general thinning in the front. (Draw a line from top of each ear to the top of my head) especially just at the middle front front (about 2-3 cm in) and a bit of temple just a slanting of 2 cm and then and area of 2-3cm with say 30% diffusing (that can be masked pretty ok with Dermatch and fibers)
    Also I have always had a problematic scalp with sebboretic and dandruff and flaking and itching on and off in periods.
    After all this years now with stable almost no Hairloss (on fin 0.5mg)!do you think it makes any sense to try out Minox just for the purpose of thicken things up. (I have actually quite a lot of thin thong hairs in temple región that nevee really died neither thickened back over the years on fin)
    I do not expect to grow back anything temple wise really. So it’s all about thickness.
    Reason I ask is I am now 47y and I was thinking of getting a small transplant with the goal to lower those 2cm of temples and also thicken up those diffuse frontal areas a bit.
    That said. My concern is the effort vs gain.
    So again. Do you think minox for frontal thickening on my age and background makes sense to try or should I just keep going with fin and do the transplant.
    Many thanks.

    Kevin, would love to hear your thoughts on the heart side effects. Ive read people in forums saying it can cause high blood pressure, heart damage, left ventricular hypertropthy etc. And it all sounds rather scary as a user. Most of the studies I can find seem to be on oral minox so I am hoping that is what they are quoting as if topical does have serious cardiovascular effects I think I would rather lose some hair

      Hey, you may not get any better results considering you are already getting great results.

    wait kevin, are you certain about the oral minoxidil short half-life thing you said? i have been taking a 5mg pill every day for about 6 months, so that means 2x2.5mg would yield better results?

    • @haircafekevin
      @haircafekevin  4 роки тому

      It honestly probably doesn't matter. Even though it does have a shorter half life it is so much more powerful than topical it doesn't even matter if topical lasts longer.
      Fin's half life is only a few hours but its residual effects last a few days and I imagine such is the case with oral minox.

    Kevin - will apologize for the long message / question in advance. I really appreciate your fact based first hand experience videos...they've been by far the most informative I've found. Unfortunately I'm one of the anecdotal people who hasn't had a great experience with minoxidil. I'm a 50yr old male (using finasteride for years). I started miox in Nov 2019 as a purely preventative versus regrowth tactic. When I started I'd estimate I had 85-90% of the hair I had at 25yrs old. Since Nov and 7 months in I've lost 20-30% density where I've applied it...hairline and through the temporal area. I've had not other noticeable sides. Any regrowth has not been incremental (I have less coverage) but I do have some new wispy white straw like hairs.
    Wondering from your perspective assuming the minox has kicked out my old thicker telogen hairs and replaced some with these straw like hairs, are these same follicles now addicted?
    I really want to quit the minox as it hasn't been good for me knowing I'll probably get a massive shed or even cause telogen effluvium, but hoping some of my old density will still return. The advice I've been given from online hair Dr's has been very generic and not helpful. I agree this stuff should not be OTC...I didn't know what I was getting myself into, and totally my fault for not researching deeper before starting it when I really didn't 'need' it.

      Hey man, thanks for watching and I'm happy to answer.
      7 months is a short enough period of time that even if you were a good responder to minoxidil you probably wouldn't lose much if you stopped. From the sound of things though it doesn't sound like you were a very good responder to minoxidil.
      Fighting hair loss shouldn't make you miserable, I'd go ahead and just drop it. Worst thing that will happen is your hair will return to where it was before you started.

    Hi man, I know you made a video before about oral minoxidil and why it is a bad idea. Although, some doctors (and for example the doctor from The Hair Loss show) recommend it in very small doses, like 0.5MG or 1MG. What is your opinion about that? Wouldnt that be even as "dangerous" as putting a lot of topical minoxidil on the scalp? Thanks man, and great video!
