      @@Fishtory I am studying energy as an engineer(student), so the logic/science behind it made sense. It is just wild they do it by instinct.
      I am just waiting for the old meta to come back, where you can have an old fashion microphone in your hand. It is just weird how the brain works sometimes.

    I just found your channel, I really hope you get the recognition you deserve. I’ll be sure to recommend your channel to any fellow aquarium hobbyists!
    I’ve always speculated that fish have ways of communication that we can’t really comprehend, simply by observing my fish. so this is exciting stuff. It only makes sense that if they have electromagnetic capability, they would use it to communicate to others of their species.

    What a great video! Thank you! I had these as pets as a child but keeping them made me feel deeply sad. They tried to escape and needed more space I felt - this was in the early 90s. learning this really touched me - they always seemed incredibly smart and kind of mystical to me! Like mini dolphins. Thanks for sharing this with the world! Plus love ur illustrations! They really helped me listen and learn- I’m dyslexic but the drawings SUPER charged my ability to focus!

    You know, i'm not at all surprised and it was really cool to hear about so thank you! I imagine there's probably no species of mormyrids small enough to keep in a few hundred gallons of water, right?
    I dont know that much about them, but they seem pretty amazing! I didnt know the detail about their brain-to-body ratio either.

    • @Fishtory
      @Fishtory  5 місяців тому +1

      Well it's hard to say ethically. But I have kept petersi, the ones in this video. They only get 6 inches or so maximum length...but they seem to need to be alone....paired off with a mate OR in a group of a dozen or more, or they tend to stop eating, get aggressive and are just hard to care for. But 1 is manageable if you feed frozen and live foods combo daily. But I'm sort of rethinking if I'd keep them again, knowing what we are learning about how intelligent they are

    Fascinating stuff as always...interesting about the waves cancelling each other in this case. Having done some recording, I know this as "phasing", and it's why it's good to know the distance and angle the sound source is from the diaphragm of the microphone. Really interesting how all these things weave together.

    Amazing stories mate, very enjoyable. What spins me out is earlier today (Well yesterday right now) is I was watching an Aviation related video with all the newest stuff coming out in 2024 & when you were talking about Fluid Dynamics & Noise Cancellation in this video, the Aviation one has put together an "Auto Pilot" type solution to effectivley cancel out turbulence. Basically the same thing as Schooling Fish. It's amazing what Nature can teach us. Cheers.

I would love to keep a group of elephant nose or black ghost knife fish together. The BGK is actually 1 of my absolute favorite fish. I've had many over the years. They're so awesome.
