    Thank you Alyssa for this tutorial. I just recently decluttered my entire closet and put my fall/winter clothes away in totes. I also colour coded my clothes and I find that really works. It was a huge undertaking, a lot of trips to Good Will.I too , like the velvet hangers and everything uniform in my closet. You wouldn’t believe how good it made me feel ,such a euphoric feeling came over me. 😊🙋‍♀️💕🇨🇦

    Always good. Hello Apollo. Two things. I have hooks on the outside of my closet doors and I hang items that I want to wear to prompt thought and creativity. Also hang items like evening wear as art! Don’t get to wear them enough (not enough fancy events in my life lol) but love seeing them. (Live alone so it works for me). Thanks for great insight

    I really like the idea of hanging my clothes by length rather than colour, as I do now. I have a spare bedroom as my clothing/shoe room where I can see everything all year round. However, I have one large clothing rack that holds my current season pieces. Except we're in winter in Australia, so I keep my cardigans and jumpers in a separate area and often don't get nearly enough wear from these items simply because I forget I have them. Thank you Alyssa, this was extremely helpful ❤

    I have such a small closet, but I think I’m going to box up my cold season clothes and store in my garage because you’re right - it’s hard to find what you want to wear when the closet is cramped. Admittedly I do have a lot of clothes (nearly all are bought used). Your channel has helped me style them! I wear dresses almost exclusively in the summer because I sweat too much around the front of my shorts in the summer.

      Store under bed, another closet etc. NOT THE GARAGE! The garage isn’t as temperature controlled as the house. Other than that switching clothes out is what I do too.

      Slipshorts in summer have been such a game changer for me - I use cotton ones but I know there are specifically cooling ones available from Thigh Society etc.
      No more swamp butt or chub rub in the summer months! Hope that helps!

      I put all my winter clothes in those flat tough totes under my bed. Then I the fall I switch the winter and summer clothes around. It makes a huge difference! Just remember that you need to find those clothes before you start thinking you need to fall shop!!

    I designed my wardrobe to suit my capsule wardrobe :) I can't stand sliding doors and too many large shelves, because I lose sight of what I have if it is all in one big cavity. I chose an ikea pax system with doors. Love it.

    Good reminder. I also have a rack right outside my closet to pre-select outfits so morning rush is less hectic. I only wish jeans and a button down would work in Virginia's weather.

      Here in DC, I switch to linen button-front and linen pants - the humid version of jeans and button-downs. On the worst days (like right now 😅), linen dresses for the win.

    Since following you I have learnt to add a capsule element to my switch over. This means that some items for the season remain packed away but can come out in a future season depending on what plan I have each season. It makes my closet less cluttered and feels like I have new clothes each season.

    Without a doubt the biggest thing that has improved my wardrobe organisation was investing in velvet hangers for tops/dresses & wooden-clip hangers for trousers/skirts. They're the only hangers I use now & it has just elevated my wardrobe experience. I know it might seem trivial but the uniformity with hangers just means everything is neat and evenly distributed within the space. I take great care with all my items & getting dressed is one of my favourite parts of my day. I find the creative aspect so enjoyable & my outfit really sets the tone for my day as it channels my energy. I love looking at my closet space.

    • @JBUHJBUH
      @JBUHJBUH 5 днів тому +5

      Same, although I have velvet clip hangers too lol.
      They're useful for hanging too-long dresses in a short space (like Alyssa's) - you just pop the dress over the usual 'shoulders' part of the hanger & then clip the hems up on the bar/ rod part of the hanger.

    This is perfectly timed and so valuable! I’ve just retired from teaching (think pencil skirts, tailored separates and high heels) and I’m in the process of curating an intentional wardrobe that fits my new lifestyle. It’s really a big deal for me because I have a relationship with my clothes as they very much impact my day. I also know that I have given into liking the idea of certain pieces more than actually using them and I don’t want to make that mistake again. Thanks for the help!

    This is a tap on the shoulder for me. Decided I was not going to buy anything from the shops and not throw out until I figure out what my body is doing. Still grieving over the yummy jumpers I left in the store sale. Very traumatic. Closet is a mess. Compromise is to take out everything that does not fit right now - so as you say, what I have left is manageable. Thankyou. A timely reminder. Chic Apollo sighting.

    My tiny closet is divided between work and leisure clothes. Special occasion outfits and bulky jackets are in storage in another room. I usually just switch the actual hangers with the clothes on, the hot weather blouses go out in summer, the others go back to storage.

  • @dianecyment1715

    I agree that having the same hangers allows you to see your clothes better. I organize my closet by color palette, then I hang them from sleeveless to long sleeve tops. You may want to consider a sock organizer. I have two and it makes it so much easier to grab the sock that you need. Greatt video, Alyssa. You help remind us to utilize what we have rather than shopping new (even though I still add new items - I'm working on it though).

    I need to do this! My walk in closet allows me to keep everything in one place BUT I have a section that houses my current season and it works! I have too many clothes so I have blavk hangers (a limited number) for my current season and beige for non seasonal. It really helps me decide if Zi need to keep something

    • @JBUHJBUH
      @JBUHJBUH 5 днів тому +1

      I think even if you keep it all in one place, you can still switch the in-season items to the section that's easiest to reach for you.
      For example, I've moved my winter cubbies/ baskets to the shelves that are either too high up to see (at a glance) or lower down (so I'd need to crouch to get to them).
      You can do the same with your rods - hang up whatever is on-season on the spacious middle rods & then hang all the off-season dresses etc in those harder to reach rods that are behind a door or finicky mirrors etc lol (we all have them lol, unless your closet is magically customised to avoid the common blind spots).
      Edit: TL;DR:
      We tend to reach for our clothes more (literally) when it's less effort to do so!

      @starlingmom You know, that could even work out! 😉 Because your husband probably didn't choose your clothes, and doesn't have the same emotional investment as yourself, he might be able to open the batting with some round one closet sorting for you. Emphasis on the word 'SORT'! not bin. Do you have one section that's the most problem? eg shoes, purses, jeans, blazers etc. Maybe get him to start with just one category. Eg he could pull all your jeans out, sort them from light to dark, and leave them on a spare bed or table for you to try on later.
