When I think about being a minimalist I don't think about what I want to stop, I think about what I want to trade it for. I want to trade social media for art projects. I want to trade binge watching shows for binge reading books. I want to trade a day shopping for walks with friends. That's helped me really look forward to making those changes
"minimalism isn't about how beige my things are" MADE ME LAUGH SO MUCH cause it's so trueeeeee 🤣🤣 i only want to be surrounded by beige/light pink things😅
I really love Marie Kondo’s advice when decluttering: to keep what sparks joy in your life. This prioritizes joy not just in terms of what you wear, use and surround yourself with in your daily life. It means your mindset changes generally and you consider what sparks joy in terms of your job/lifestyle/ friendship circles etc etc. So minimalism for me is not just about decluttering / minimizing the noise, the things that don’t bring me joy, put more simply it’s about maximizing joy. This recipe is different for every one of course in terms of what you keep and let go of. The end result however is the same: greater happiness - and that is the greatest luxury of all ❤
Some people get hung up with using this as a decluttering approach. I’ve seen people ask what they should do with their toothbrush because it doesn’t spark joy 🤣 Others have realized that none of their clothes spark joy, but they don’t have the budget to replace them. I loved that approach for clothing and books, but had a harder time with the miscellaneous category - probably because it wasn’t as clearly defined.
The part about changing your mindset to trust yourself that you will figure it out when the time comes, and that there is no point in worrying about what hasn't even happened yet - this was wisdom I needed to hear at the exact time I played your video. Thank you SO much for sharing your experience and your guidance. It made all the difference for me. ♥♥
I'm not really a minimalist, but I used to shop for clothing nearly all the time... until one day I decided to just stop. Now I only seldomly go shopping, only when I really need something and it's much more intentional so I only really own the clothing that I need. It's really very freeing.
Your words about not being able to control everything in life nor curate life to how we want everything to be is something everyone needs to hear. It’s important, yet so hard, to relinquish our false illusion of being able to control everything in life. Thanks for your wise words delivered in your soothing manner 🌸.
Wow, it’s been four years already? Congratulations Sophie!!! I am honored to say that I followed your journey very closely from the beginning, and your philosophy has truly reshaped how I see “minimalism” as well. You’re absolutely right- it’s not just about having “less stuff”, but being able to translate the concept into daily lives that is catered to our own individual lifestyle. I have to admit, I first thought minimalism meant just living with only the necessity, it seemed daunting and overwhelming. However, your practical advice and POV throughout the year have helped me carve my own version of “minimalism”. I think for me, minimalism has helped to prioritize my needs and wants and not exhaust my energy on things that do not bring any value to me mentally and physically. It’s amazing how having a tidy physical space has translated into a tidy mindset as well. I am forever grateful that you are sharing your journey, and thank you for always being an inspiration. Cheers for many more years of success, joy, and learning :)
I love your channel. If I were to give advice to someone just starting out it would be to focus on what enhances your life in a positive way. Don't keep anything that is connected to negative experiences or emotions. Then gradually let go of the rest in a conscious and sustainable way. You will find that you gain so much more than whatever it is you release.
For me, it's about time and how I want to spend it. Caring for things takes time and some things I'd like to spend more time on, and some things less. As you get older, the days go by much more quickly and although I like the Internet for learning and information, spending lots of time socializing with people you will never meet in person or arguing with strangers, or even emotionally supporting others and making their problems yours really isn't a good use of time unless those are you goals. Every day there is bad news and sad stories and they are an energy drain.
Malama Life I am new to your channel. I've been going through your minimalism playlist for a week now, and I'm writing every main point you make in the videos in a separate book. I am in Sri Lanka. Seeing your surroundings, I think it is very beautiful. But even though I don't have that much environment, I understood one thing from what you said. No matter where we are, no matter what kind of house we are in, no matter what level we are in, we can make all this to suit us as best we can. So thank you for all your videos. I'm a guy but I'm trying to change my life a lot through your minimalism videos. It's not that easy. Because my family sometimes sees this in a different way. But I will definitely do the right thing.
My minimalism journey honestly started very unexpectedly with my no buy year, this year. I started it since I wanted to shop mindfully and not use shopping as an emotional coping mechanism. After a few uncomfortable initial few months, I see a different mindset emerging slowly within myself, as I simply start to appreciate the money I save, the time I spend not shopping and something that's often overlooked is the mental space I get from simply not thinking about the perfect clothing item to buy. I am also feeling more intune with my thoughts and emotions and energy levels , which is a direct result of me also experimenting with reducing my media consumption. This was something that occurred to me since I wasn't shopping this year too. If I was being mindful of what and how I used my money, why shouldn't I be more mindful of the information I put into my mind everyday ?? I think you're so right ! Doing one minimalist thing slowly starts to have an impact in other areas of your life too ! That has been my experience as well, in this short time :)
When we start this kind of journey, the most important is to be honest with ourselves, otherwise we might fail time and time again because this should be an inner journey and not a trendy path to fit in. Thank you Obrigada God bless you ❤
Agree the physical space is a direct reflection of your life...My bedroom has only my queen size, built-in closet, and yoga mat. The art studio needs a revamp but it is moving slowly which is okay...Simplicity simplicity Cleanliness and simplicity...☺
Your words are peace to my soul..being intentional with life is so important especially this season of change, thank you for sharing how beautiful life can be with a heart of gratitude and simplicity💟
Just the video I wanted. I woke up not feeling myself today I want to be like these people around me and at the same time I want to be in my own beautiful space and time, and be myself.
My minimalism journey is similar to yours…it started with the same thought of stopping shopping and also went into the friendship boundaries and simplifying and my physical space really affecting my life.
you're the only youtuber i follow about minimalisim! you have a balanced view and don't go the extreme way, and I've been following your channel for 2 years and my life has been better ever since following your tips and reminders to live an intentional life ❤ so thank you !!! 😊
I love this channel and all of the content! What I have learned in this journey is that the first step isn’t to declutter items that you own…it is to stop the influx of items coming in to our homes. 🙏🏽
Decluttering has ofcourse been my first step in the minimalism journey and then shifting my mindset from What I really need v/s what I want? I haven’t mastered it at all however I have Somedays given into temptations but that’s okay I don’t want to be hard on myself so a lot of days I forgive myself ❤
On my minimalism journey there has been ups and downs. Times I have had to spend more on resources for unforeseen circumstances. And times I felt my resources were content. Do not beat yourself up on mistakes you made, lessons are learned, and knowledge is gained. With that being said take a moment to think of where you want to be and what you want to be doing. Mine is taking care of people, and having my dogs at my feet while I worked. Not worrying who I need to impress, and being happy and comfortable in my own skin. And my home having what I believe to be beautiful. Food is for nourishing the body and soul. Stop following trends! Life changes and things change. So be gentle to yourself and give yourself grace. Being stagnant can hinder our ability to grow and evolve. We are evolving as we speak learning different ways to live, and what is best for us.
I am glad to be part of Sophies journey. I resonated a lot from your channel Malama life. All of your thoughts and contents goes along whats in my mind. Yeah I agree thats minimalisim isnt about curating with beigy and light colors, not about having less, but having what is valuable, true and essential to live your best life. It includes people, values, stuff, and other resources. Thank you Ms Sophie for being an inspiration. I am avid fan of your page and its contents. Goodluck on your journey always🤗🙏
I find your videos extremely helpful. I wonder if you could make a video on how to declutter clothes when you like everything you own? I'm currently stuck trying to curate/reduce the number of things I own (just to simplify things for myself!) but because I tend to purchase things I really like, I end up in a situation where I like everything I have but just wish there was a bit less of it 😅 I know it's totally a first world problem but would really appreciate your help. x
Sophie…..I love this and your mindset. Things are not what bring us true happiness, experiences and freedom are what bring us happiness. I wish I could meet you, would be so fun to talk. I am a minimalist also and have gotten rather wealthy from being that way. I own my time and my life. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Sophie for sharing your knowledge in to minimalism I’ve been on this journey for 3 years and I’m still not organised I must take it a step further
Always feel so soothing watching your videos❤ it really helps me to spend my resources with more awareness, which is more important to continuing how much stuff i own ~~~ And now I am starting the journey to do the content with minimal makeup, to help people feel beautiful in any easier and simple way:)
I think people think of minimalism as an empty space because that is what it is like with minimalistic art, which is where the word came from. It is like having mostly a white space with a little bit drawn or painted somewhere. I always loved that art and I also love empty rooms haha. I do agree with all you have said in this video though.
I have started to embrace minimalism. Its slow for me. I too wanted to buy and buy without thinking much. But now I am mindful of what I do and what I buy. Even while cooking, I am mindful. At one point I am stuck and I am not quite finding a way through it. My marriage always makes me drain. I think I have given more than I got. I have even changed, but it is in a negative way. I just do not know how to come out of it. Our views do not match and this always creates friction. I have a kid and I don't work right now. So I am totally stuck.
I remember watching your initial videos and commenting in one that you would make it big here. Came across your channel after a long time and happy to see my judgement come true.😌 Love your vids a lot!
I start my day listening to this beautiful peaceful channel I’m so grateful for all your wisdom & insights..& I love the background music 🎶 thank you so much!🥰💕
Hi Sophie - reposting this comment since apparently, UA-cam autodeletes them if you have links, and I included two in my previous comment: one to the FTC ruling for one lawsuit and another to an earlier news piece talking about the other two in my previous comment. The comment basically said 'Just checking whether you're aware that in May this year, BetterHelp had one of the three class action Federal lawsuits against it (I'm not sure what's happened with the other two) upheld for selling users' health and therapy data, and has agreed to pay millions of dollars in damages to previous users whose data they sold. I know you've mentioned wanting to support companies with ethical business practices in previous videos, so I suspect you'd never want to unknowingly recommend a company that's been found liable for these kinds of unethical behaviours'
I love your content it brings me so much peace ❤ I m doing not bad with shopping but as a make up artist I feel guilty to spend so much money in products that I barely use or just for one type of skin tone etc .. Not sure if I should follow minimalism advice from someone who has been moving a lot in recent years. Moving involves a lot of planning, packing, and can be quite stressful. “Does it add value to my life?” is my go to question in decision making.
It makes everything simple 😍
The Marie Kondo of it all . Does it add joy/value to my life etc

Nice video…Which books about Minimalism do you recommend?

Hey what's that app in which all your outfits were?? Love love your videos
You must have a lot of virgo ♍️ in your chart.
You have a beautiful skin 😊 plzz can you do more video about your natural skin care....
Not sure if I should follow minimalism advice from someone who has been moving a lot in recent years. Moving involves a lot of planning, packing, and can be quite stressful. It seems contradictory to the simplicity that minimalism promotes. Maybe I'm just also wondering if she’s truly committed to the lifestyle, or if she’s just following trends?
I ❤ U
Loving your content as always, especialy the plant at your back 😂😊
My first "hi..!" here.
👋 hi!!
💚
Minimalism includes reducing social media, right?
It can be 🥰
Minimalism begins with material things. It ends with simplifying your relationships and ending those relationships that overwhelm you. Do you really need to see that hard luck cousin anymore?
Aloha, another great vid. Mahalo
👏👏👏
I really want to try this - unfortunately - with a wife and 2 kids who really don't believe in this - it is next to impossible.
Just simplify your own closet, tools etc. That will make your life easier straight away and might inspire your wife too.
I started minimalism with email inbox. Huhu it was plenty. 😂
I want to take your permission I want to start a new channel like yours
You absolutely do not need my permission 🥰 we need more people spreading the word!
