I always thought it had some kind of Chinese style and Southeast Asian elements, and someone recently found a photo of rice planting in Myanmar being used in the concept art.
Also, there are suspicions that UBI displayed Zoro's sword from One Piece, the 3rd Kitetsu, as Yasuke's sword at the Japan Expo in France.
Please check the image posted on the official AC France account called Assasin's Creed FR, which shows the sword.

@Hypnotic The difference between BioWare and ShiftUP is that BioWare is a Western game studio based in Canada so they can do whatever they want including pornographic gameplay. ShiftUP however is an Eastern Korean studio, therefore everything they do is over-sexualized and evil! This is the hypocrisy of Western "game journalism".

I honestly could not have said it better myself. I've played alot of asian games back when I was on consoles and there NEVER was any nudity in them not even in the orignal japanese versions, yet they still got mass censored. Then you have stuff from the west like baldurs gate 3, that has full detailed frontal nudity and sex scenes yet that is perfectly fine? it makes no sense. One western version of a visual novel on playstation censored a girl in a bikini who was at a beach. Its like really? when Baldurs gate 3 exists and has far more explicit content.

Ubisoft did the same kind of stealing in the Assassins Creed Shadows PV as the Sekigahara Musketeers.
They are using an important cultural property in PV without permission, which requires permission, fee and license. They cut out parts of the whole thing, flipped it, and secretly drew the bird's beak in a different direction so that it wouldn't show.
Other videos have been stolen. They are important historically, culturally and artistically.
This much stolen goods come out of just PV.
It's not just about Samurai, we Japanese are still turning our backs on Ubisoft.

I've said it once and I'll say it again I honestly think it should be a crime to play around with history, I want people to be able to create interesting stories and not be stifled with their creativity but we're going to a point where the young generation are going to play these games and we're going to get an extremely warped Perception of history.
If you want to make a movie write a book or a video game you should have to put a sticker on the cover of your game that points out mucg of the game has historic inaccuracies and have it pop-up during the loading of the game.

The word "modern" is itself cultural appropriation / false history.
The modern age/era/period ended near the first half of last century, right after the end of WW2. Then it became the postmodern age/era/period, more specifically the information Age, which more specifically began with the invention of the transistor in 1947. We are now leaving the Post-Information Age, which begain either very early this century, or near the end of the previous centuryt, and we are finally just now entering the Artificial Intelligence age, or will enter it soon.
So maybe the "modern audience" that every mainstream media and big production company everyone is talking aboutm, should be, much more appropriately, named the "Artificially Intelligent Audience".

Unfortunately from what I can gather, the JP pol in question is a younger member of a group that is ignored by the power players in their government. So its not a big deal to them at large at present.
