I will preface this with - Kristie you are a legend - getting out there and enjoying camping and doing it solo (well with Jacko in tow anyway) is a true inspiration .... I have an RV5 that initially will be setting up solo and you have given me some great pointers to going about this alone - thank you
Hi Kristie, I hope this well presented video inspires other solo ladies, or ladies with young children to take up camping. You prove that it can be done without drama.
Hi Kristie, the first time I put my awning on my own it looked like something out of monty python. I did one pole then it fell over when I got to the other side. I couldn't help laughing. you made that look very easy.
A bit late, but let me say what a great video that was. I just subbed and gave a thumbs up and this comment to help the algorithm. I'm thinking of buying, and watching you has made that more real. Great tips, and no disrespect intended, but I found you hilarious doing those poses after the sides went on, all it needed was for some words about a set of free steak knives with every purchase, lol. That fold out step looks brilliant, which I wil buy if I get the tent. The tent and extras are very expensive for me, but average out over years of use/cheap holidays, I think it would be good economy. Was that a heater I saw in the tent? I'll go back through your library and maybe see a report on it. Cheers, happy travels.
@johnrogers5825 lol ,awesome, John. Your support is much appreciated, buddy .. Cool, you had a good giggle...life is short, so gotta mix it up when possible.. OzTents are a fantastic investments! Try to pick up one one market place to make your money go further if money is an issue..and let's face it ....you could then buy a set of knives!
I did all this on a Hyundai I20 for 2 years lol, RV1 is a much better solo set up in my opinion but they discontinued the RV1 for some silly reason! I actually have not used my RV3 since I got the RV1, same weight but only 1.6 long. Fantastic Awning set up, you learn every day, wind is the RV Awning solo set up enemy but this is brilliant! thanks.
Nice review, I also like the idea of getting the additional sides and even the end panel, and connecting to the car or an awning to give you more versatile space. With transporting, may I suggest you put the RV3 tent on the racks first, then strap it down, but double the straps over, then lock it. Then put your other bags on top of the RV3 as it will stop those bags from sagging and rubbing on the roof. Just tie the down with some seperate tie-downs thru the handles, for extra safety. You can tie the bags to the RV3 bag, and or the Rhino bars as well to make it easier. You do a good job setting the tent and sides up on your own. Some good thinking goes into that.
Another informative and enjoyable video! I like the way you clearly demonstrate everything and don’t rush it. Some great ideas again. I always learn new things about solo camping from you. Thanks. 🐶⛺️
Thank you for a honest and good instructional video set up the RV3. I live in the UK and I’ll be taking out in September for its maiden voyage, learned quite a lot how to set up the awning.. thanks again
Hi Kristie. Great video. I have a RV5 and purchased a mount from Drifta that bolts to the cross rails of the roof rack but note sure if they are still available. Take Care
Nice walkthrough of your Oztent setup 👍 Have just ordered the RV3 and can't wait to get out and try it in the Lake District, UK. Hopefully it deals with our wet weather here! Thanks Aaron
Awesome set up! I’m looking at getting one for our trips in Wyoming and Colorado. Right now we camp out of the back of our truck but would like to be able to have a base camp so that we can take the truck to explore the area
Loved watching this video, brings back a lot of memories, especially the one about digging a trench to keep out the water when it rains. We always did this, Dad & Mum had a George Pickers 12x12 canvas tent in those days. No quick put up then all hands on deck! So you young people have it very good. Bye for now safe camping from Elaine Brisbane.
Hello 👋 The trick is to attach the fly and zip it on when the tent is laid out but not up .. Then raise the tent from the inside and it’s attached.. then leave the fly attached at all times , as in pack it up with it on .. it will fit in the bag .. many do that ..
Great idea just using the Velcro on the side panels . I have a RV 1 , with side and front panel as well for 15 years and still going strong . Never thought about just using the Velcro ,as the zips can be a pain in strong winds 😂 wish they made the tent bag a bit bigger though . Cheers 🍻
I also have an RV3 but I have a Land Rover with a Front Runner roof rack and the tent just fits the rack but I do bungie it down as I travel over very rough roads. I admire your system.
I had some off cut marine carpet and cut to size and put it in my daughters RV3 floor and it’s been a permanent thing since 😂 Good video great setup 🤙🏽
Hey, I travel with box trailer and thinking of getting side and front panels, mostly just to be used as a change room. Tossing up if its worth the extra $ ??
Thanks for sharing, many interesting points and considerations. Considering the RV3 plus as current Coleman instant up is starting breakdown. Tent, size & setup isn’t my concern anymore, packed size & cost are the factors that will decide. Actually cost isn’t issue, since they appear to good value over the lifetime of tent. For same cost of RV, I could go for a RTT (another entirely different debate)
I had one found it was too heavy to get up and down from the roof and getting it back into the bag absolute pain in the arse. Once it's up it's a good tent. I keep the tagalong and use that by itself, big enough for me to sleep in comfortably.
Hey Kristie, Great job! Gee you are well organised and have a terrific set up process with lots of cost creature comforts! Really enjoyed your video, and I'm sure you are inspiring many people to 'get out there' and have some adventure! Just one suggestion, you might want to consider a larger hammer/mallet. Something with a larger face and with a little more weight. You'll find it so much easier to get those pegs in, especially when the ground is hard. Happy camping and thank you for the video!
Thank you heaps for watching, thankfully I have that bigger mallet now , Aldi had one I grabbed. So awesome advice, it definitely is easier for sure . Safe travels and thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎶✌️✨✨✨
@@LadiesCampingAustralia Awesome! And I noted you mentioned buying the pole bags from Aldi - I've also got a few of those 'Adventure Ridge' bags from Aldi too, great value as you noted!😁

Hello again, couple of questions 1. What's the weight limit on that roof rack!? Lol. I also just bought a Thule force xt. 2. I assume that's the companion 45l transit? Looking to buy one was wondering if it's suitable for 2 adult and 1 child, and is the cooler compartment cold enough? I researched the companion holds almost 20 cans less than others 45l fridges. Thank you!
Nice , I liked the way you leaned the poles back against the tent first , that makes it so much easier , Cheers for that .
So much easier, thanks for watching
