The son of Palestine, moon of Jerusalem, light of the Semite, refuge of the world, shadow of the Lord of earth....this so elegant and beautiful that you just wish to hear him sing like bird.

“Son of Palestine, moon over Jerusalem, light of the semites, refuge of the world, shadow of the Lord on earth….a humble particle of dust offers salutations from down under your expensively dressed and glorious feet, and welcomes you back to the land of bombs and missiles, cold milk and canned honey.”
Show me a more beautiful introduction to a letter sent to a friend.

Thanks Nader Hashemi sb for sharing these lectures. A real treat to listen to. Apologies for my ignorance, kindly provide some information about the 2nd lecturer, who starts at 28:55). Some basic information, her name, academic background, association with Eqbal etc would be helpful.?.

How ignorant I am to have been introduced to Eqbal Ahmed by Edward Said though Eqbal Ahmed belonged to my own homeland. The point to ponder and reflect is the fact that it was up to the Asio-Arab Americans groomed by the elite American universities who raised the slogan of human values, equal opportunities for all social Justice and voiced against exploitation of Afro-Asian people, lands & resources as well as the American imperialism or Neo-colonialism. So the credit should as well be given to such bastions of higher learning.

I agree. I think Edward and Eqbal would agree as well. While elite US universities produced the likes of Henry Kissinger, they also produced the likes of Cornel West, Richard Falk, Noam Chomsky, Eqbal Ahmad and Edward Said. See Suhil Khilnani's review in the New Yorker of Caroline Elkin's new book the British Empire which makes this point quite eloquently.
