The late Edward Said passed away before Israel expulsed its people from Gaza. The late Edward Said would never live long enough to see the hundreds of thousands of rockets to be launched from Gaza once the Palestinians earned their freedom!!!!!

Imagine someone living at the edge of life, battling a fatal disease, suffering Chemo and its toxicity and still keeping hope at the pinnacle of willpower. Who else but Edward Said could do that ??

He's totally bogus. Only those with no critical thinking - or reading - abilities whatever could fail to see that his books are nothing but a heap of unsupported assertions, assumptions and resentments.
He is exactly what is sick about 'soft science' academia.

Though I have read none of his books ,it is his humbleness that has lead him to just a echelon of position among the Universities .Like Noam Chomsky he is a visionary and well spoken fellow, the day we lost such a gaint to Luekemia was sad for intellectual faculties of the world. May what he has left behind be read with interest and awards" like the International Mahatma Gandhi prize for peace" be instituted in his name.He is a proud symbol of Palestinian identity.

I had forgotten about him, alas and didn't know he died back then. So depressing to hear him talk about reconciliation between Palestinians and Jews and the need fr a Jewish leader to acknowledge the pain of the 1948 dispossession of the Arabs, depressing in the light of what is going on right now, in October 2023, some 20 years after this interview, when the Hope for Peace has significantly dimmer.

My takeaway is politics drives geopolitical policy & it takes many more decades of pain to change the course of the supertanker called US hegemony than optimists ever imagine. Nevertheless I choose to believe a more just system can & will emerge. Remember Bush speech “kinder & gentler nation”? We’re still watching & waiting for the tide to turn toward cooperation.

As Israel would say, obvious proof these organizations are antisemitic, genocidal & deny the right for a Jewish Nation to defend itself. “Settlers” in West Bank are armed & continually usurping land & destroying home, armed with US weapons freely distributed by Israeli govt. PA helps IDF. They’re incarcerating native residents without charges or legal representation by huge escalation since 10/07/23, now doubled uncharged detention since.
