This review has just reminded me that a couple of years ago I went to a magic shop in London and bought a few tricks, which are still gathering dust on the shelf...admittedly this has nothing to do with your fantastic review, but it is magic related!
Trickerion is a beast, one of the heaviest games i've played. Big learning curve, like a lot of mindclash games. But it is very good. I didn't quite give it the gold medal though. Although i gave this game 5 plays, i still feel like theres a lot more to discover with it. So, i couldn't 100% confidently endorse it. Still, very good game and one ill be keeping for some time.
Funnily this is one of the first heavy games I had purchased, I think in 2015. Just after that Caverna. The KS expansion with big box is mind-blowing in craft and design aesthetics. Really a great game.
I love this game, but I am a (very) amateur magician myself so the theme really gels with me. I also love worker placement games and heavier games. Certainly not for everyone though. Also, I have the collectors edition and it is gorgeous.
Just a funny story: Usually I try multi-handed for an initial run through to get the hang of the rules, while making sure to enjoy the game for what it is. Did fine 3 handed for Anachrony first time. Because of Trickerion's theatre, I thought 4 handed was a must. BOY, did my brain melt! That said, it's quite a breeze playing it now with just solo even with expansion compared to that. It's such a long term strategy multi-turn setting up game that multi-handed is so hard to handle.
This has been on my radar for some time! In terms of complexity what games would you say is on par with this (i.e.' if you have played x, y and z then this is something you are likely to handle')? Thanks!
Ok, I need this game now. Too bad I seem the only one enjoying 5 stars complexity where I live. For my group, anything above 3 is crazy to consider. I need a pc port of their games haha
@@bgm-1961 True, it wouldnt be a mindclash game otherwise. I hope they rerelease the game at some point. Pretty sure its sold out in my lfgs. If only I had a bigger table, leaving long games out would be so much easier haha
I wanted to like this game but i just hate it so much... i disagree that there are several ways to play or routes to choose. In fact I would argue it forces you all down the same exact path forcing you to all duke it out on the same spaces. Played it 3 times and yes, it was extremely confusing the first time... but the 2nd and 3rd time the strategy just felt horrible. My game group is advanced and after each game we seriously wondered why this game was fun. (And we are usually pretty forgiving of bad mechanics and finicky games.)
Interesting, I think one thing you have to keep in mind is the limited spaces. Taking 2 buy actions in a 4 player game, with only 4 spots is gonna be a risky move.
It's defintely on the high end for learning time. Its core complexity is high, but the really tricky bit is that its so open. So learning what to do and when is the really hard bit

The Prestige is that film where Wolverine and Batman have a grudge and David Bowie is Nikola Tesla?
That's the one. The tone and presentation of the film is very much in line with Trickerion.
With Alfred and Black Widow as their assistant.

I was just going to comment that I’ve been looking for this one for so long! thanks 😊

This is definitely a cones of dunshire
Nah, everything in Trickerion makes ludonarrative sense. It's complex, but not nonsensical.
@@3MBG Thank you for the honest reviews, anytime you give 5 stars I know the game isnt for me! Love the channel mate
Wait, what?
@@3MBG it's a fake board game/ gag on parks and Rec tv show

I love the theme of this and mindclash make some amazing games. This over has been sitting on the wishlist for some time now.
As a rule, I'm not a fan of Euros. But Trickerion is easily in the top five of my 400+ game collection. It's a superb game.

This is still on my to-play list. It was part of my best-ever thrift store day: This (KS edition!) plus Arkham Horror 2nd ed, five bucks each!
That is stunning, wow
WOW... clearly they had no idea what they were sitting on. Nice find! :)
You should deep-dive the dueling magicians + dark alley; it's such an amazing experience.
I might be playing this at a group tonight. It seems a bit intimidating to play!
It is. It's one of the more complex euros on the market and really hard to teach as all the bits are interconnected.
Just reprinted - copy finally arrived yesterday

Its up there with Mage knight, spirit island, feast for odin etc. Definitely "heavy"
wow, this game looks as funny as On Mars
Yeah, its busy as

@@wirormiror You're in luck! The game is being reprinted now. Keep an eye out on Mindclash's website.
Great video!! Will the collector's edition get a reprint, or is that unknown?
Unknown. I hope so.

Thanks for this nice review. Too bad most of us will never be able to get our hands on a copy of this game, though.
No more so than any other expensive game. It's being reprinted right now.
@@3MBG Oh, that's awesome! I didn't know it is being reprinted. Thanks!
