This game is Stephs favourite new game of the last year or so. And some of the test sessions we had were hilarious fun with our friends who played it. Shrieking "oh darling, you simply must see the Gaze-bo" in fake posh accents seems like a requirement for the game.
Finally got this game for Christmas, and i’m so happy you vouch for this game so hard. I think this game has officially evangelized my sister into the hobby. She was not only really into it but played amazingly; trouncing me and my mom. The integration of theme with the mechanics really sunk their hooks because they religiously watched Bridgeton, and Downton Abbey. Thanks Jarrod
Nailed it. I didn't think much of Austen until I was forced to play marrying mister darcy, and then, because i knoew none of the characters. I watched the BBC adaption with colin firth. Genuinely enjoyed it.
Preordered for the 2nd printing in December. Planned release April. Pandemic delayed it until September. Good game, highly recommend. Pretty basic worker placement, but the theme and the use of the tiles really make this game engaging.
I love this game, and I live very near to Derbyshire (pronounced 'Darbyshire' - I think our place name spelling is deliberately awkward! 😁). Great review.
I really like this game. I am NOT a Jane Austin or Upstairs-Downstairs/Downton Abbey TV show fan. But this game is great... despite the theme! Highly recommended.
Finally got my game off of the 2nd Kickstarter. Boy this game is fun! 2 plays and it has jumped to top 20 favorite games. I can easily see it going to top 10. Thanks for this video, which originally turned me onto the game. My wife (of 1 month) loves the victorian era and loves this game too :)
Fantastic review! Adding the game to wishlist and man I love how you put other suggestions at the end because I've never heard about Marrying Mr. Darcy before and I went straight to the review of that game right after this one and now I desire to obtain both of them ASAP >_
I love board games, euros, and Jane Austen so this would be amazing, but the massive lit nerd in me is cranky that it says "victorian england". The Victorian era didn't begin until 20 years after Austen was dead. I know it doesn't call out Austen by name but with references to pride, prejudice, and an estate in Derbyshire I think we can safely say that's the intent.
Some people have said that before. But, i also use the solo time on some vids to describe the solo mode and to provide a shot of it. Also, as a solo gamer. I just like the emphasis on it as solo gets forgotten by many content creators. It just part of the patter now.
I've only played it once, but it was a lot of fun. It's, of course, to talk refined trash about the other families around the table. And underneath the fun theme, there sure is tough game. Nice!
Oh man, you got me curious to play this one now. Makes me wish there were some sort of Henry James-themed game. Though I suppose in that the winner would be whoever didn't marry!
They will be doing another kickstarter sometimes this year... I can't remember when. For an expansion and I'm sure they will probably offer the base game then as well. It was available for a little while on their site after the kickstarter. That is where i got my copy, but I just checked and they no longer have the sale listing so they must have sold all of their extra copies.
Depends what you are into as always. My partner is an English literature grad who loves period dramas, so it really connected with her. But yeah, not for everyone.
As an American, I can vouch for our unsavory nature.

Lovely. Glad your sister got into it :)
My wife enjoys Marrying Mr D'Arcy and loves Downton Abbey in TV, I feel like this would be fun to try with her.
This seems boring in the same way Austen seems boring. Which is, once you give it a chance it's probably crazy complex and engaging as hell

The engine building is pretty tight in it as well

Great review Jarrod! This game is very high on my wish list. Thx!
Just got my copy today! Great video, as always.

Excellent summary!

Nice to see your video on the kickstarter page. Keep up the great work!
Cheers. Dans a real nice guy and has been great to liase with. He's planning on sending me the expansion as well. Really do dig this game.
Thank you 😊
you know, in the interest of saving time, saying "there is a solo mode" is kind of redundant right after you said player count is 1-4 :)
Some people have said that before. But, i also use the solo time on some vids to describe the solo mode and to provide a shot of it. Also, as a solo gamer. I just like the emphasis on it as solo gets forgotten by many content creators.
It just part of the patter now.
@@3MBG well if it's for emphasis, you should clearly change it to "there is a solo mode, damnit!" :)
Or say "there's no damn solo mode, I AM DISSAPOINT"
Pretty good game ,pretty nice game
I just got my KS version with all the expansions.
I've only played it once, but it was a lot of fun. It's, of course, to talk refined trash about the other families around the table. And underneath the fun theme, there sure is tough game. Nice!
Yeah, thats what i love about it. It's still a meaty game as well as nailing its theme.
@@3MBG Indeed! Oh, as you said, the flavour text is great. Two lines is really all you need, and it adds so much.
Having Steph say "ew, an American" in her most performative posh voice made the game for me :)
@@3MBG "Absolutely shocking! We need to find a way of getting that dreadful woman out of here. Where is Miss Wessex? "
I really like this game.
Our family loves Marrying Mr. Darcy, which is a solid game even for non-Austen fans. This game looks like a lot of fun!
Its definitely a big step up in terms of depth and complexity for sure. But yeah, super fun

Gotta show this review to the Missus =)
What a lovely review! Tea?
Released already? Couldn’t find on Amazon
Small company. It's definitely out there but perhaps not on amazon. Try the links i posted in the description.

EDIT: I looked on the wrong page. They still have copies available for US and Canada: www.kayentapublishing.com/
@@3MBG Thank you. My wife LOVES this period. I am going to hunt it down for her.
Soooo... um, they meant Regency England, right?
An American!?!?!? That made me lol. 😁
AN AMERICAN

Game and components look very good, but man, the theme looks as boring as it could get.

Oof. This game looks ugly
