Millers Crossing is one of my two favorite movies. Along with Empire of the sun. Whenever i want to think of great acting great story telling great cinematography great direction these two movies are always there
The fat guy was yelling because The Dane, the big guy on the floor with his face ruined, who had until a few moments earlier, been Johnny Caspar's (Jon Polito) muscle, had worked him over to try to get info on who might have killed the Dane's gay lover, played by Steve Buscemi. The Dane thinks that Tom Reagan (Gabriel Byrne) knows something he isn't telling, and the Dane tried to beat it out of the two bit boxer, the fat guy, who was using fixed fight info from Bernie Bernbaum (John Turturro) to try to make a quick buck. Bernie was under a sentence of death from Caspar for his 'treachery' in spreading news of 'the fix' around so Johnny can't make 'an honest buck' on his dishonest information.
The dialog... Dane's lover Mink... He jealous because Bernie was also messing with Mink. Bernie ended up killing Mink to cover his tracks for Tom and Caspar.
omg, some of you didn't know Dane and Mink (Buscemi) were lovers? I guess i have watched this classic so many times that it surprises me someone missed that!...one of my all time favorites
Yep, but that would have been too easy, and anyway, I think Tom and Leo were trying to get rid of Caspar, who was kind of a burr under the saddle blanket to Leo's idea of a smoothly running city. So they let him get more and more enraged over Birnbaum, knowing that he would do this as soon as he found him. But since Tom was bedding Bernie's sister, he figured it would bollocks everything up if Bernie was whacked too soon. See, Bernie was expendable on a 'Star Trek Red Shirt' level: a minor player who was destined for a final resting spot out in the Pine Barrens past Miller's Crossing as soon as the story called for it. Even if he had more face time than the Mink, he was a Nervous Nellie, and this town ate men like him up for a morning snack.
Didn't the guy yelling get shot in the foot or ear or something too? I know they hurt him, I just can't remember how. Either it was that or like the others said he saw another guy get killed the fuck outta and he lost it
Did you just break his entire face? Even his eyeballs? Was that his eyeballs dripping from his face? Gee that mobster dude is pretty powerful, to knock somebody's eyes to slime. His eyeballs, became slime balls lol :-).!

Awesome music in Miller's crossing. The best character and actor was Jon Polito by far, he stole the show.

A tad bit, of the tasteful sort, elegant stuff you know.
This is almost certainly the most disturbing scene in the film. A few murders, a bunch of shoot outs, a few beatings, mostly rather tame.
