I love both Matt and Avi. I was heartbroken when Avi left PTX, but now I am so grateful that he did. Matt fits in beautifully as the bass for PTX and Avi has a successful solo career and is very happy doing his own music. I'm quite satisfied with the way everything has worked out both for PTX and for Avi.
Ah, yes, the one fondly known to some of us Pentaholics as "The One Where Mitch Forgets to Breathe"! There's a live version (their Christmas Under the Stars concert on BYUtv) where it really sounds as if Mitch does not take a breath for a few minutes!
Highly recommend that one! The official video is great, but watching them do it live is even more amazing - and you really do wonder when Mitch breathes!
I love Pentatonix as a group, both with Matt and with Avi. Avi could hit a couple of notes lower than Matt. Avi had classical training in opera. Matt has a smoother, warmer tone ( my opinion) and has a larger range. Personality wise they both seem nice but Matt seems a better fit with the group dynamics and is more outgoing and funny. It is like comparing apples and oranges. I was sad when Avi left and I was delighted when Matt joined the group. I understand why Avi left and I understand why the group went on without him. Avi seems happy with his professional and personal life and Pentatonix has been creating stunning creations with their gorgeous, unique voices . Matt has totally earned not being seen as the new guy any longer. ❤❤❤❤❤
Well said! Yes...Matt fits in better with the group and I love his warm, rich vocals...and his falsetto. I'm so appreciative of how well Matt and Kevin fit together as a team and that they do the cello/drum pieces together on tour.
This is Mitch's favorite carol, and he knocks it out of the park every time they perform it. Try finding a live version and then figure out where he manages to breathe! 😅
It seems easy but is actually very complicated to do this in unison. I love both Avi and Matt. They both bring something else to the group. Matt's voice is so like velvet .
You are so appreciated. Absolutely stunning. O and they sound the same life. Love them so much. Greetings from South Africa
I completely love Avi, and he was a perfect fit at the first half of their amazing run, but I honestly think Matt is at least equally, though differently, well suited to the group musically, and maybe even more of a fit energetically moving into their future. I know Avi and Kevin were tight and it showed, but so are Matt and Kevin, and that shows, too. Matt is so joyful! I have seen them in concert with Matt 4 times so far, and he just radiates happiness. He makes me smile every time I see his beaming face and hear his lovely voice. That to say, I agree with you, I appreciate them both.
I disagree completely about Avi being a better fit with the group. As someone who has followed the group from the beginning and seen/heard them with both basses, I pick Matt. Personality and voice tone. Ptx members have a more pop/soul sound that Matt fits perfectly where as Avi has his opera/folk styles. Plus the group likes to be silly and not take themselves too seriously which is where Matt fits in too. Avi was sometimes too serious. Matt brought a whole new energy to the group when he joined and there's nothing like seeing Matt live in concert with ptx. His stage presence is the absolute best, and he can hype up a crowd better than the rest of them. Sorry if it seems like im going off on a tangent, but Matt has gotten unnecessary cristism since he joined just because he wasn't Avi and couldn't sing as low. Matt filled the hole that was there when Avi left but some act like he pushed Avi out or that ptx pushed him out when Avi chose to leave on his own. People.also dont seem to realize thay at this point, Matt's been with ptx longer than Avi was. He's no longer the new guy. He's the veteran.
I agree 100%. Matt is a much, much better fit. And you are right, Matt is so much fun live!!!
Well said and fully agree 💯 👏🏾👍🏾
I don't agree. I think Matt is great! But there is only 1 Avi. And he will always be the GOAT
YES!! !00% Agree with all of this.
I liked Avis uniqueness but overall Matt fits better with the group I think. Sound wise and definitely personality wise.
After reading the comments here, I recommend you check out Avi's solo music. It's about 90% original, and spans genres to the point that some reactors say he is his own genre. I personally prefer the resonance he brought to PTX, but I also have to say that I'm glad he left and has established himself as a solo artist with a wide-ranging catalog of music. As just one example of what he's created on his own, this song (written with The Civil War's Joy Williams) "All Is Well" shows both how he doesn't need to show off his basso profundo all the time, and also his prowess on the guitar. This video was done by 7 Layers Sessions, filmed in a church in Utrecht, Netherlands during Avi's 2022 European tour. Just a sampling - a beautiful and resonant one, taking advantage of the natural acoustics of the church. ua-cam.com/video/sNjbAAjF4Tg/v-deo.html
That particular solo recording of Avi's "All Is Well" calms and grounds me like nothing else. It's the perfect intro to a mediation session or a tough day at work. His voice resonates with healing. 💖
There is a more resent live performance with Matt in it. Christmas under the stars.. that is brilliant
I miss Avi, too. He gave the group a whole extra dimension that made them unique and fascinating to listen to. Perhaps that sound was simply too disparate to be sustained. Matt feels like a more harmonious fit, which speaks well for his longevity with the group. The Avi years were a phenomenon... a moment of elegant tension in time that was a gift to us all. 💖
I love PTX whether it's with Avi or Matt. They both bring something special to the group. I love them both.
Please react to their version of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies next
One of PTX’s iconic songs for sure. Each person is stellar! I highly recommend that you listen to the Christmas Under the Stars live version of this (from 2021 I think) that is available on the ByuTv app only during the month of December. Matt is in it, and Mitch is absolutely unbelievable in his lead (He leaves everyone who listens breathless with his ability to BE breathless while singing for a VERY long time)!! Worth the second time I promise!
Avi has a different sound than Matt. That’s true. Avi has a beautiful deep bass voice that will never be replaced. But Avi didn’t want to be in PTX anymore. That was his choice. Nobody forced him out. Subjectively he might be a better fit but he left.
Was PTX supposed to just disband and stop performing because Avi left? I enjoy Avi’s voice but I don’t compare Matt to Avi? Matt came because he was asked and he gives them all his talent.
Most bands don’t last as intact as PTX has for 13 years. Home Free has already lost three people. Voiceplay has lost members.
Avi Profundo bass; shakes your chest for sure, Matt Very good bass but YA Avi was special. I agree with many , Matt fits where they are now stylistically. Mitch being pitch perfect. Enjoyed the reaction.
If you like Pentatonix, you should also check out Home Free, also Peter Hollens, and especially Peter Hollens ft. Tim Foust (from Home Free) singing Misty Mountains (from the Hobbit).
I loved how your face said "NO WORDS" at the very end of this. Yeah, we were all that way too, when we first heard it. Thanks for the wonderful reaction, and I'm looking forward to many more Christmas reactions in the next few months. And be sure to react to their cover of Making Christmas - which is more of a Halloween song anyway.
I never get tired of hearing this song and their arrangement of it. At first listen it sounds a bit repetitive but after a couple more times you start to notice how they make changes on each pass. And, you didn't mention Mitch's not breathing through the whole first verse! Thee is a LOT going on, but I find that notable. I enjoy your reactions and am glad you did this one.....
I agree to a certain extent. Remember that PTX itself went through a much needed transformation when Avi left.
Avi was perfect for the old PTX, but I don’t think it’s even close to how well they blend with Matt. He fits perfectly, and better than that he brings an energy they never had before.
I meant the song is perfect for them
Thanks for the reaction. I love both Matt and Avi. Both are unique in their own ways.
Have you watched the original Coffee in Bed. BothKevin and Mitch shine here. Sounds like a Mitch and Scott collab song.
Thank you -- it's beautiful and I loved your reaction. I subscribed.
Avi has a special place in my heart and it’s fine to have a preference, people seem to forget that opinions belong to the person and it doesn’t have to be a battle of opinions because you have a different one. You like what you like and that’s it. Hate towards Avi is unnecessary because you like Matt better. Makes me wonder if you guys felt that way since the beginning 🤔.Avi was the first bass and holds a place in people’s heart who grew up with them. When Avi left i still listened to the group but Avi’s music brought such peace to my soul that I gravitated towards his solo career but i still reminisce with old PTX mostly and listen to their new stuff too on occasion since my taste has changed from pop songs to something that makes me feel something. Their Christmas music will always be top tier but i still prefer the older stuff (2011-2017) maybe because it was a happier time in my life back then. To each their own.
I'm glad you posted this reaction - made my lunch break so pleasant, but I disagree - Matt is a superior fit with his band members - if for no other reason than morale.
Recommend their video of O Holy Night.
Yessss
You should check out “The Making of Evergreen”. They are shown in the studio recording. You’ll love it!
This is also known as the BREATHE MITCH song. 😀
They along with Ben Bram are likely the best arrangers in the music business for over a decade now. I do not know of another group as good as they are in any genre. They also arrange in any and all genres.
I do love Avi. He was great when they started. He helped make them special and garner attention. He was especially good at their more classical songs which many of those are Christmas related.
I think Matt's style and vocal tones are actually a better mix with the other four than Avi was. He is not Avi but I think he is better for the group overall. I think their original album The Lucky Ones was better with Matt in it. I don't think it would have been as good with Avi in it.
If you want mind blowing Avi & Kevin beats & bass, react to LOVE AGAIN. It's an original PTX song. Their challenge to themselves was to make an EDM song cappella. See if you think they succeeded. Also Avi has a new video out called MOVE OUR SOULS. Very unique and very Avi. Also, for some reason I think I heard that you were from the Texas area. Not sure if I'm right but PTX will have a couple of Christmas Tour stops there. I believe that it's Dallas & Austin. I could be wrong. Don't know how you got Scott to do Angelina' show but it was fabulous. Thx.
I also think Avi was a better fit with the group. I preferred their music before more then now. But so glad that Avi when solo. His voice is so beautiful and should be heard. Please check out his solo stuff.
All of these "We don't like Avi" posts make me sad. As much as we all agree they are all where they want to be and everyone is happy, I don't understand why so many fans have to say I don't agree with the Reactors opinion. It's just what he likes more. And he is not the first one to say so and he won't be the last. They definitely changed after he left and not everybody likes it so much. So be it. No need to always say how much of a better person Matt is. That's just unnecessary and everybody who says it has no idea what a wonderful human Avi is. It´s been 7 years for God´s sake!!!
I have only listen to them maybe 5 times after Avi left and it just wasn't for me. Matt is good for the direction that PTX wanted to take their music and he sounds good doing it but I find no interest in their current music.
I haven't seen you react to Home Free, another acapella group that I prefer to PTX. There rendition of Helpless Hoping is great. They do a wind range of styles of music.
Avi was better for the group.
I no longer listen to any of their videos without him.
He is a musician extraordinaire and almost no one pays attention.
He once asked Kevin to play cello for a solo song of his and when Kevin arrived,
Avi handed him the entire cello score he wrote.
And let us not forget that buttery chocolate sound.
That’s your right, but personally I think you’re missing a lot. Matt is fabulous. Avi seems to agree as well considering he is now doing what he chose and he’s had a private conversation with Matt. They’re both so good I love that I can listen to PTX with either one of them.
Such an unnecessary, biased, ignorant comment. Have you looked into treatment for your misophonia?? Some well spent money on misophonia therapy sounds in order. It's been seven years, you twit. PTX did not push Avi out, he left on his own accord. Stop projecting your negativity into the Pentaholic universe. So very unbecoming. LOVE YOU MATT!!!!!!!
What does that have to do with him being better for the group? Their recordings since Avi left have been every bit as good as when Avi was with them and you can see from their live stuff and concerts that Matt is a great fit for PTX. Since you say you don’t listen to them anymore, how could you know Avi was better for the group? Avi is a great musician and left of his own accord. I’m sure he’s much happier and I can assure you PTX hasn’t missed a beat and just keep getting better and better.
@@mel3268 Just as some prefer Matt's sound with the group there are some of us that prefer Avi's sound. Nothing against either merely personal preference. There is a definite difference in their sound now for me it is missing something. I have listened to many songs with Matt and I just do not enjoy them as I did with Avi, cannot say for sure why. Bluegrass and Country have always been my preferred genres but everything they did with Avi I loved. Love Again, Can't Hold US, Problem, No, Christmas etc listen to them over and over. I have watched Amazing Grace and loved Kirstie and Mitch's parts and of course K.O. finish was perfect as always but I just don't care to watch it a lot. I have listened to Sound of Silence, The Prayer and several off the last originals album and it just didn't wow me. Now I am not saying they are not as good or anything like that, they are amazing just not my cup of tea anymore. I also don't care for the remakes of the older stuff like Hallelujah. But there are plenty to take my place as a fan.
Your loss Pam. Avi didn’t want to be in the group anymore. Personally, I don’t listen to his music. Life goes on.
