Jerry Only is a genuinely very kind guy. I saw this lineup of Misfits when I was maybe 11 years old. I wound up getting tickets from an uncle and my father had no idea who they were or anything and took me. They played an incredible show probably like 50 punk songs they ripped through. He saw me on my fathers shoulders throwing devil horns the whole show so when they were signing autographs at the end he was all like "bring that kid to the front. Can you believe we have such young and passionate fans yadda yadda" then this guy takes me and my father backstage shows us the bus makes sure I meet and get markys autograph because he didn't do the signing just jerry and dez did the signing. I love the guy so much and just the misfits period. Jerry literally gave me and my father such a great night just doing those few little things. I'll remember that day with my dad til I die and I will always view Jerry as a stand up guy. Meant the absolute world to me as a child.

Can't say I truly loved the Only Misfits as much as the original (but who could live up to that band!), but geewhiz, having met Jerry Only, he was one of the most friendly people I've ever met from a band before. Came out before the show to take photos with people who arrived early, watched the local opening band and cheered them on, just so full of enthusiasm for everything he did that night.

I met Dez Cadena at night, on the deck of an empty cruise boat, while sailing the Baltic sea. He was smoking, I was eating cream cheese and started a converstion, because we were the only people on deck and no idea who he was at the time. He gave me free tickets to see Misfits play the following day. What an awesome guy!

I have the utmost respect for him because he’s so nice to fans and he stays after the show to make sure everyone who wanted an autograph gets one. At least he’s not like other artists who can’t hang around and meet the fans. He’s a good guy

In American Hardcore (book) a guy says he went to stay with the brothers at their house in the early 80s. He thought they, Jerry and Doyle, would be dark, evil dudes living in coffins. Instead they would spend their time washing their muscle cars while blasting Van Halen. The guy said that was certainly NOT how he envisioned them. Ha!

Now watching the whole interview, Marky wanted to get that out at some point and the part about their parents seemed to be the right time. The album still got released, was advertised, probably didn't sell too many copies. Motorhead's tribute was a song called Ramones which was out years before the tribute album.

Used to work with a guy who lived near Jerry and baby sat his kids after they met while he was selling merch at a local show. Said unequivocally Jerry was the nicest 'rockstar/ celeb' you could ever meet despite his stage appearance. Down to earth dude with strong family values who happens to be in a fun line of work.
Jerry Only lives an extremely healthy lifestyle and is the picture of responsible usage of steroids. He so positive and so down to earth. I genuinely hope to look half as good and be half as enthusiastic/kind, by the time I get to his age. Hats off to you for another incredible interview Nardwuar!

Take it with a grain of salt, but the theory behind 12 Hits being pulled is because the band wanted Bobby Steele's guitar tracks pulled in favor of Doyle's, but the label sent out a mix that used both.
In Mick Foley's book he said he met Jerry Only and Foley had no idea who he was but Jerry was very very friendly to him and brought him on the bus and introduced Foley to his mother. And even though Foley was completely unaware of Misfits music, he became a big fan just of Jerry Only as a human being.
Nardwuar was trying to get Jerry to tell a story with the "two cheese burgers" question. Apparently Glen Danzig wouldn't let then drummer Arthur Googy have two cheese burgers for budgetary reasons and Googy quit.

Saw them few years ago. Opening band missed the plane so they played an hour extra and after the saw he stayed to sign and take pictures with all the fans, even when the bouncers were pushing to stop because they wanted to go home. So much respect for him.

1. We saw the Misfits in Detroit with Gwar on Devil's Night. We were waiting in line and Jerry was going through the line signing stuff, but he looked like Bret Hart in sweats and a ball cap, so we didn't know who he was. Says to my friend's friend something like "Wow, I haven't seen that shirt in a long time. Do you want me to sign it?" That was an amazing show and an adventure. 2. Again Misfits in Detroit. We were waiting by their RV, he is talking to folks, mentions WWF. I ask "Is it true you are going to the WWF?" he says "Yeah, but they don't know it yet."
Good Ol Jerry back in 2010 pulled me up on stage at the orange peel because he said he’d been watching me “sing every fuckin word to every fuckin song” his words I’ll never forget it. I got to sing London dungeon.
I saw this line-up in Cleveland, OH on this tour. I think it might have been Halloween. They ripped thru 40-ish songs and Jerry Only sat on the front of the stage and signed autographs for damn near every person there. Real cool.
Got to meet Jerry Only at the House of Blues in Anaheim and Dallas multiple times in teenage years and my early 20s. And every time, Jerry stays after the show for autographs and pictures. Never said no to anyone. The amount of people waiting to get a photo with jerry was insane and i bet it still is today. I can say the same for The Adicts whenever they played at The Showcase in Corona. Same attitude. Love these guys.
When I was playing in my brothers band “The Hounds of Hell”… we were playing at a snowboard resort in Jersey, set up on the half pipe and outa no where… here comes Jerry Only and bought a few of us pizza in the lodge… also met him back in 99 or 2000 at a misfits show in Rochester, NY… awesome dude!

They are very lovely. They remember all dates and shit. When they met. When they saw each other for the first time. Super nerdy in a way.
In Mick Foley's book he said he met Jerry Only and Foley had no idea who he was but Jerry was very very friendly to him and brought him on the bus and introduced Foley to his mother. And even though Foley was completely unaware of Misfits music, he became a big fan just of Jerry Only as a human being.
Nardwuar was trying to get Jerry to tell a story with the "two cheese burgers" question. Apparently Glen Danzig wouldn't let then drummer Arthur Googy have two cheese burgers for budgetary reasons and Googy quit.
Not into punk and never thought Misfits would ever pass the Nardwuar vibe check. Now, it's time to go to their whole discography. That's the way it should be done: if you are nice to Nardwuar you deserve to be listened to hahaha

Saw them few years ago. Opening band missed the plane so they played an hour extra and after the saw he stayed to sign and take pictures with all the fans, even when the bouncers were pushing to stop because they wanted to go home. So much respect for him.

1. We saw the Misfits in Detroit with Gwar on Devil's Night. We were waiting in line and Jerry was going through the line signing stuff, but he looked like Bret Hart in sweats and a ball cap, so we didn't know who he was. Says to my friend's friend something like "Wow, I haven't seen that shirt in a long time. Do you want me to sign it?" That was an amazing show and an adventure.
2. Again Misfits in Detroit. We were waiting by their RV, he is talking to folks, mentions WWF. I ask "Is it true you are going to the WWF?" he says "Yeah, but they don't know it yet."

Good Ol Jerry back in 2010 pulled me up on stage at the orange peel because he said he’d been watching me “sing every fuckin word to every fuckin song” his words I’ll never forget it. I got to sing London dungeon.

I saw this line-up in Cleveland, OH on this tour. I think it might have been Halloween. They ripped thru 40-ish songs and Jerry Only sat on the front of the stage and signed autographs for damn near every person there. Real cool.

I remember Jerry stage diving into the audience feet first, with his boot hitting me right on my forehead. I couldn't have been more proud.
Eating salad off of the tray at the buffet is about the most punk rock way to eat salad ever.
Got to meet Jerry Only at the House of Blues in Anaheim and Dallas multiple times in teenage years and my early 20s. And every time, Jerry stays after the show for autographs and pictures. Never said no to anyone. The amount of people waiting to get a photo with jerry was insane and i bet it still is today. I can say the same for The Adicts whenever they played at The Showcase in Corona. Same attitude. Love these guys.

When I was playing in my brothers band “The Hounds of Hell”… we were playing at a snowboard resort in Jersey, set up on the half pipe and outa no where… here comes Jerry Only and bought a few of us pizza in the lodge… also met him back in 99 or 2000 at a misfits show in Rochester, NY… awesome dude!
