Great thing about Dylan songs... as soon as you think you know what he's talking about... it'll change on ya.

Like most poetic writings Dylan’s songs are not easily decipherable upon one listening. Don’t get frustrated. It what makes him so unique. His exploration of the human condition is what makes the journey so ultimately rewarding.

Sweetheart Like You, Neighborhood Bully, Don't Fall Apart On Me Tonight are other favorites of mine from this fine, fine album. All the tracks are great.

It's a commentary on the present and past psychological state of Man.
He's a Fool a Joker. He thinks life has no purpose, so plays with it like a child ripping the head off a doll and then laughing. Joker Man, he's a Joke. Dylan's disdain for Man's apparent infinite BS.

Great reasoning. I thought he was talking about Satan, Christ and even himself.

I'm with you on this one...not a clue what it means. It is Bob Dylan, though...the name speaks for itself! Peace out, JJ❣️

The Jokerman is you & me & everyone else. Human nature. Hard to decipher. He weaves it into a fascinating song. He never claimed to do anything else.

many of these kids who hear for the first time a song by a great songwriter like Dylan are culturally up to expressing a reaction

Just evokes that period, people forget, it was tense in so many ways, was easy to feel distraught about human and individual progress. The seeds of now were sown then....

I never thought the video fit the song that well. Its a good video on its own, lots of good art. But the song is best listened to on its own..

He was talking about politics and religion, so I think the joker man could be God the devil every leader of every powerful nation himself The human race, but there is one thing I do know the imagery in this song is so powerful you can touch it with both hands and mold it in o your own meaning. The paintings in the video are from one of favorite artists Bosch i think

Have you ever considered diving into Dylans studio albums the same way you have done with other artists like Prince? it is such a rewarding experience to listen to these songs in the context of his albums and it makes things much easier to understand.

Bob Dylan was referred as a The Joker from his song All Along the Watchtower which Jimi Hendrix covered. At the point of this song, Dylan had converted to Christianity. This song seems to be biographical and he's not to kind about himself. He calls himself a manipulator of crowd. If you know about Dylan's life, it an excellent song to reflect on.

Interesting video with song. Great song request Nosivadbor, really enjoyed it before my morning walk! Makes me question my latest song requests, but really can't care to much as long as the 20.00 request gets to the king.💰🎧💰

I hate to say this! but a man who won a "nobel prise" for songwriting should be listened to as a progressive artist otherwise his body of work doesn't carry weight, or make sense or give the listener a sense of moving forward with the times ,his songs are important and are a social commentary on the decades they are recorded in, the song is politically charged as with a lot of bob dylan's songs also not his best song to be honest j.j but there are 100s of classics in his cannon of work.enjoyed the reaction ; )

I hope I can clarify for you. The song was pointing out people who claim to be religious leader, and political leaders, like Ronald Reagan, who is pictured in the video, pretending to do gods work but actually commit evil throughout the world. The drunkenness of power masquerading as good, not unlike the times we live in now young man. This song is a work of art like you said. Bob Dylan became a Christian about 20 years ago and I’m certain this song was written before that time. For so long people who claim to be righteous have sold us ALL out. Take care and be well. I do enjoy your videos ❤
