Show the card.. then a quick video clip of you showing the actual guitar off. I know it would take a lot of editing.. but it would be a great episode!

I remember those! The cards were included in some packs of Gibson strings like the (let’s see who recalls THESE strings) Ace Frehley signature series, the B. B. King signature series, and some .009 and .010 sets as well.

Hey Austin,
I know this would be a break from your usual content, but I'd really love a good video or series on how to properly store and take care of a Gibson Les Paul. I know in every review and demo video you put it on the work bench, but knowing how to set up a les paul for a specific tuning, how to adjust the action and tension on a GLP, adjusting pickup height, etc., all that kind of information, I think would be really useful and would go a long way for the community so we can all take better care of our instruments. And of course GLPs can come with a variety of bridges so perhaps when a new one comes up that isn't the ABR-1 bridge and stop-bar tailpiece (which, I know it may seem dumb, but could you explain which each one of these are some time?) you could talk about it then?
Love the content, keep it up. As a fellow Ohio native, I'd love to stop by and see that museum some day in the future when it's ready!

I love my two RD Artists (a guitar and a bass). They're kind of under the radar and heavy as hell, but they're super flexible in tone and just great players.
That white SG was beautiful.

I think the only big star that used an Rd Gibson was Kris Novelselic from Nirvana he played an RD bass almost exclusively for awhile.

The 2018 RD reissue is gorgeous. With the old logo on the headstock, the Gibson banner on the back... Binding...absolutely stunning.
Check out Grzenia Guitars they make a fully bound black RD style and its perfect
Also, if you live in places that get cold, or hot and humid, it’s best to get the box inside, let it sit for 12-24 hours and then open it… can prevent a lot of issues with lacquer finishes.
Back in early 1980, this one store I was shopping at had an RD Artist new for $950 and a new Strat for about $750. I ended buying the Strat because $200 was a lot of money back then and I really couldn't afford the difference. I still remember feeling the RD was the better playing guitar, but I kept that Strat for almost 40 years and it served me well.

While I'd love a video on the trading cards, an article is probably better due to each photo can be looked at long time. Please make the photos high res enough if you click on the small version you get a closeup of the card to see some detail. (But I'd watermark the high res images so they can't be used to make counterfeits.) After the article they need to be put in a proper conservation case. Thanks to Dave for the goodies!

RD Artist are very underrated guitars from the Norlin era and so are the other family models with Moog pick ups; Les Paul, 335 and SG R1 (They have slightly thicker body to accommodate the Moog Electronics). Would be awesome to see a video documenting them, most of guitar players end up dishing them cos they don't know how the tone knobs works

Trogly the blood moon top is called angel step quilt maple. Bc it looks like angel wings brushed the wood
Speaking of rare faded V's there was a black faded V that had 3 P90's in it. I remember seeing it and trying to handle it at a local GC years ago when the faded series was in swing. I have never seen another one.

I'd be happy to see the Blood Moons go up in value, but I don't think I'll part with mine unless it gets crazy. It sounds and feels too good. Also, it's my first actual Les Paul I've owned.
i have a couple of those cards, in the 90s they came in with gibson strings packs, one card per pack of strings
Austin, you need to find a 3 pickup Faded Flying V for a review and demo. They didn't retain their value like other Flying Vs (I think they only came with gig bags) and I have never seen them sell over 2K on the resale platforms. I will purchase it if you don't want to get stuck with it after a review. I prefer the White or Ebony colored if you do come across any.
Ryan Roxie from the Alice Cooper band used a white one for a while, it was very cool looking!
Buddy of mine has that same Bloodmoon. Of all his lespauls (including slash sigs) its my favorite to play. That thing is just amazing.
The RD reminds me of a firebird crossed with a telecaster.
The gen 2 is definitely the best case out there, just in case anyone would want to know they do float if the lower level of your house floods. I fell asleep on the bed with mine laying on the floor and the pump quit working , woke up to the sound of the fan hitting the water and looked over to see my 76 custom floating. It was fine

I dig the blood moon Les Pauls and love the aluminum case. White baritone SG is pretty cool too
Please don’t use Goo Gone on that finish. I would start with a rag and just rub it to see if just friction and the heat from it will loosen it up and then maybe some alcohol. Worst case scenario you put a swirl in it which can be corrected with some car polish. I’m am by no means a professional but I have personally polished a few old guitars up and made them look like new.
I’d be so stoked with any of those guitars. Especially the RD, man is that nice.
It would be fun to see a video or an article about the Gibson trading cards.

I’m pretty late to the comments but I’m case Austin or anyone is really wondering about the backstory on the cards here it is. He mentioned something about them existing in an older video, I had some neighbors that brought them back from a trip where they toured the factory in Nashville and since they were just sitting on a shelf doing nothing I’d move them on to someone who would do something with them. I hope to see them opened at some point, I doubt they really have much collector value. Oh, and Gibson and Leslie say hi to all you Troglodytes!! 😺

Yeah, those aluminum cases? If I'd intend to use them a lot, not keep them pristine as a collector's piece, I'd give them a thin layer of clear epoxy to ward off the light scratches, dings, and oxidation.
Mineral spirits will also remove sticker adhesive residue.
As someone who collects cards. Opening the plastic destroys about 80% of the value compared to sealed.

I've got a set of those cards from when I was a Gibson dealer in the late 90s. Collected them 1 at a time. I think they came inside packs of strings.
Crazy just looked at used one of these & other day one with the bats on neck.
Definitely leave the cards sealed! The collector value will plummet even worse than a refinish!

Any good sports card shop can get you what you need to protect and display them in person and not break the bank. Really looking forward to seeing what Explorers they felt worthy of a collector's card as well.

I love the chainsaw case. Had one for my 1991 Les Paul Studio. It didn’t come with a case and I asked if they had a hard case and he was like. I don’t have any new ones but I have this used one if you want it. It was a chainsaw case in great condition. Wish I still had the guitar and the case. Wish they would reissue them so I could get one for my gold top I have now.
