- The cover car of hotVWs’ February 1975 issue, an iconic Cal Look, aka “The No. 1”: the Greg Aronson/Jim Holmes 1963 Ragtop. Russell Ritchie of Scotland purchased the famous Aronson/Holmes car with the goal of finally restoring it back to its rightful historical grandeur. In July 2019 it was unveiled at the European Bug-In, fully restored, with Jim and Diane Holmes in attendance. The Aronson/Holmes ‘63 had gone full circle.

Staged. yawn.......
😊😊😊
Awesome 👌
Really really
I guess cops are more concerned with headlight height that the fact of absolutely 0 impact protection.
That must one of the coolest things to experience. Same ride and same girl, after all them years. God bless.
Yeah, cause it wasn’t set up. Thing wasn’t even close to being too low. You could still get a pack of smokes under the torsion bars.
God bless??
@@blackbluestudio6338it was staged but it's like those family pics years later type thing and it is genuinely pretty sweet that they are still together and whipping the same bug
El mismo policia la misma cinta de medir..😂😂😂
Look closely at the guy that drove up! OOPS!!!
And the Oscar for the "waving her hands in the air and trying to look like this is legit" goes to...😂
Would have been even funnier if it was the same cop as well
The police car on the older magazine is a 1974 Ford Torino ( base model)
What are the chances of that happening 47 years later with the same people in the same car that's just crazy
west palm beach drags i was watching vw bugs doing 6 second quarter mile runs. never knew those were capable
That is crazy
Cool
wow 😲
CLASSIC
This is nice
Absolutely love the dedication to re-creating a scene from an old magazine cover!
You nailed this one!!!
This scene of 47 years
Cool of the cops to help recreate this
To bad they couldn't find the first cop for a perfect recreation
On spot brotha!
Es una broma?
Legends never die❤❤❤❤❤
Screw the cops
That was so badass when it panned over to the picture on the ground
Back in the 70's CHP had vehicle inspections along the side of the road, I was pulled in and my stock 62 bug didn't meet the requirements, after unloading all my tools and tire chains and getting the gas tank almost empty I went to the CHP office to get it signed off, the officer there had his tape measure, he told me to hold up the bumper, and said " looks good to me" .
Wow! Thanks for sharing your story! 👍🏼
😮😮😮.😅😅😅😅😅
That sounds like story from Balkan 😂😂
They shouldn't have ended the sale at their donut shop 😊😊😊
Now I'm scared to use my mk4 golf as a van again.
There's so much that can be said about this sweet video.
I don't know what's more mind blowing. That the classic VW is exactly the same after forty seven years, or that the two sweethearts haven't gained a single pound between them during the same time.
This great piece of automotive nostalgia brought a tear to this old man's eye. 😢
And kudos to them too. They're still together after all those beautiful years. I love it❤️
Don't have my car...but its been 46 years .....I still have the same woman...rather have her anyway 😂
Awesome "Then and Now" recreation- glad to see you're hanging on to your classic VW... and your wife!
So cool. Happened to 37 years ago in 1961 Karmann Ghia in SoCal. Too low, no wipers, no baffle in the stinger exhaust. Even got pulled over by police that were VW enthusiasts wanting to check it out!
Same here, but about motorcycles instead of cars. Back in the seventies I had a Kawasaki 900 Z-1 punched out to 1105 with a Yoshimura big bore kit and an open header. Custom painted and chromed to the max. Too fast, too loud, and too cool. Got pulled over so many times by interested cops and CHP just wanting to ask questions about such a cool and slightly illegal bike. Those are the kind of cops that give the police a good name.
Note: If anyone says you can't bore out a 900 to 1105, they're right. I mated a head from a wrecked KZ 1000 to accomplished the task.
Beautiful woman AND an epic car for 47 years🎉 Love this!
Hey.
Big ups to the cop who apparently appreciated this enough to be the new verified version..❤❤😂😂
Kodak moment right there. What an awesome memory.
That was pretty cool of the police to agree to help with the recreation!
Same wife and same car and looking just as cool!
Damn almost half a century. I’m not even that old yet lol this is awesome
Absolutely beautiful! I had that copy and 3 seconds into the short I knew exactly what was going on. Right on ✌️
No, you didn't, on both counts. Stop lying.
That is a sight to see absolutely beautiful car man don't let em stop ya
Great Video. Very Nostalgic
Awww that's awesome, brilliant yall just brilliant 😂😂
That's actually a really cool photo oh, that's awesome both dudes were around and willing to come back and take the picture again. It's so nice to see wholesome things on the internet.
That’s so nice, they really kept that car up.😊
fight crime instead of bullying the public.
Was obviously a setup. But I get the sentiment 😂
Ikr
they picky in cali
Chill TF out. It was staged as a throw back photo.
Pretty tax dollars going to waste
It didn't take much to reenact that one. Good job and funny.
Not really
It would have been perfect if the police car was a '76 Monaco 😂
The original Cal Looker! ✌️Hey man…why you hasslin’ me about headlight height? 😂
They need to hassle people about headlights being too high and not properly aimed.
I was pulled over 364 times in one year in the same primer black 69 Bug back in the 80's. They never measured my fiberglass front end. But I did get them on harassment charges, they thought I was dealing drugs. NOT.!!! Just driving my Bug. I took it off the road with 325,000 miles on it. Fun times.
Did they give you christmas day off or something?
No way 🤥😂
Dude should've been like ... I got something you can measure, hold up & I'll "whip" it out !!! Huh, you like that ??? Yeah most cops do !!! Now turn around & assume the "position" !!!
Nicely done production / very cute
Clyde can't catch a break!😂
This is the coolest thing I’ve seen in a long time!
Add least he still has a hot chic with him
Saludos cordiales desde Jalisco.. grandioso!
I got a 64 Square back !!
Hang onto it!
@@johngrepo9976 yes sir !!!
My teen years ... "punch buggy white, no punch back!"
I love this car never forget V W
One of the coolest things I have seen in a long time!! Thx!
Awesome. Wish it was still the 70’s!
I do too i'd be a kid again, and would be able to do everthing rite this time!
That's must have been one of the grandkids pulled him over to LoL 😁
Legend
nice car!! (used to own a '73 Super Beetle, 1600 cc boxer 4, curved windshield, mechanical sunroof... i miss it...)
That’s awesome
Oh what a fun little car they must have been! Why can't we have things like this today?
because rules and regs have gotten much stricter and such, i have a 64 bug and its just incredible to drive
That was awesome take care 👍🙏
This is a perfect example how time is relative. 😢. My mom’s first car was a 84 Pontiac fiero SE fully loaded. She then had a 95 corvette pregnant with me then a 01 blazer FL. After that she had a 01 vw beetle GLX, 2004 Cadillac CTS 3.6, 2007 Nissan Armada, 2010 Kia Soul FUlly loaded. 2013 Kia SX T! She’s now driving a 2019 Atlas 3.6l VR6 and it’s incredible. Never buy anything less.
'63 no doubt. Looks ALL good to me! Had a ragtop one m'self.myself.
That parked blue type I sedan is mighty Kool too.
Then: 1973-74 Ford Gran Torino pulls him over.
Now: 201X Ford Taurus Police Interceptor pulls him over.
All you needed was a DeLorean...Time travel complete in an instant.
That’s awesome, cool cop to do that!🤟🔥
In the 80's-90's, I had a 1970 VW Westfalia, Campmobile bus. The cops pulled me over frequently. One time I was followed for about 20 miles. It was a DEA agent. I asked why he pulled me over and he replied: "You fit the description of someone we're looking for" !!! I thought to myself: "Like who? Cheech and Chong" ???!!! To their dismay, after calling in another agent, they searched the vehicle with my consent and found NOTHING, not even a seed or a roach! They had no choice but to let me go about my business. I believe they thought that I was stupid enough to transport drugs in a hippy bus. No, if I wanted to transport huge amounts of drugs, I'd do it less conspicuously, in the most random vehicle possible.
This is the best of the best !!! Love the old photos with now. More more more !!! Keep them coming
Coolest car EVER made. Had a 63, 67 friend had the 57 Rag with heart lights. ALL stolen from our houses. Kill for my 67 back 1775 dual webs. Started every time and daily beach runs in hs in 70s. The 57 had a 1900 with drilled flywheel and special heads and duded out and flew with 2. Like pin your head back. He was an aircraft mech and ground up resto and hand sprayed deeeep purple. Miss those days.
Dude pulled over Mark Harmon!
WOW...
DEJA VU...
In the real sense..
😊
..
..
(.. except for the different model police car..maybe..)
That's absolutely insane seriously
Nothings changed.😂😂😂😂😂 pretty cool ad. That was beautiful. Makes me wanna buy the mag. CHP still driving fords
now that's a cool video
This is frickin unbelievable ,pulled over, same car, same place,47 year's later.like what are the chances it's like lightning striking the same place twice.G.M.
That is a man that knows how to take care of things/people in his life!!! Same girl, same ride ❤💕
Not the same d bag that pulled you over tho right. A new d bag messing with you. Cool vw tho.i had a 73 super beetle with factory ac (that never worked but kinda rare I guess). I bought it in 2000 and drove it from CT to AZ and then to Florida and back to CT. Only broke down 2 times but simple fixs.that was good times
It's crazy how the VW aged as well. The officer's revolver turned into a taser lol
I had a 65 ragtop. Miss that damn thing.
His ragtop is worth some $$$$.
Nice bro!
That cop today was probably like, “headlight height??? Gtfo here”
This is Very Funny because this reminds me of when I use to get pulled over almost on a monthly. The reason I was getting pulled over was because the police officer training a rookie police officer already knew I was a designated driver and wanted to see how a rookie police officer would handle a designated driver with a car full of drunks. Sometimes the rookie police officer would get very upset thinking he had a good DUI arrest when he actually didn't have a good DUI arrest. Before things got out of hand the training police officer would step in to handle things.
After a while my friends and I would have during the stops to piss off the rookie police officers.
What a nice car❤
Lol. That’s cute.. excellent bug.. stay well and vigilant guys.💯🇺🇸😎🌪🌎😊🔊😇
Yeah, that doesn't look staged at all .
All good. Publicity is always a good thing😂
In the 1960-70s those lowered VWs were pulled over by cop and got tickets because headlights height were too low.
We tried creating the scene of the cop tape measuring the height of the headlights, the iconic cover of the February 1975 issue of HotVWs Magazine with a famous car, the Aronson/Holmes California Look #1 1963 Ragtop, along with Jim Holmes - the owner in ’75. In the 1960-70s, those lowed VWs were pulled over by cops and got tickets because the headlights' height was too low.
The day we did the photoshoot, this officer was a victim because he had no idea what we wanted him to do 😂
BTW, this officer was off-duty and helped us to replicate our Iconic cover page of the February 1975 edition photoshopping. Thankfully our local PD does an excellent job of keeping our town safe.

What is the cop supposedly measuring? It's not the bumper, he is way above the area that it would be and I would be shocked if there was a minimum distance for lights to be above the road surface.
That is so damn cool.
Well, I'm getting a ticket because my slammed chevy truck front end is about 2 to 3 inches from the ground.
47 years ago.........
The police officer was a toddler 😂
He wasn't even a gleam, in his daddy's eye.
And holy shit . Its the same officer. Same photographer too. Right place right time . Go figure. Play the lottery .😅
So happy that guy was recording
It is clearly seen that they have read the script thoroughly before recording. Even the placement of the hands above the head is exactly the same. Good acting...
this was so good, brought a tear to my eye
Seriously? Come on now
@@Cimone90it was so wholesome
That's a blessing, and by how well it's been taken car of I already know there's countless road trips and stories of good times 🔥🤙🏼
Sue the hell out of them, they all should be fired and put in prison 👍😎 no such law

Very cool of the local PD to help out like that 😊
Wow ! so amazing ! from the famous cover of 1975 ! great to share your fun Bro, take care, beetle uber alles
I once got caught street racing my baja bug aganst a blown 55 chevy that I beat the sheriff that pulled behind me told me to just hang tight untill the seen cooled down because he wanted me to build an engine and trans for his sand rail and became a devout customer of my shop for years he couldn't believe that my car carried the front wheels not spinning thru third gear 😮
Remember when those nerf bars were sketchy when used as a bumper. Today, they're probably better than the plastic stuff.
Cali and VW beetles and buses go together like surf boards and the ocean! That whole state is literally a live car museum. Lucky!
Is from Germany, it must be good!!
We call it: Deutsche Wertarbeit.
Never gets old crazy 47 yrs and i have both issues
Get outa town
What? An old azz car and being hassled by the MAN? Also if ANYONE were to put they dirty feet on my classic interior you better believe the cops will show up🤬👹

I, er... yeah.
Crazy how you got to measure this bug for height but you have cars out there so low that they can't even get over cracks in the streets but ain't nobody out there measuring them... PS this car is sweet and the story is awesome..
I grew up with that mag! Loved it! We had the best magazines back then. Just saying.
lol! I remember this in my mag. Now what about that poor bug that looks like a bulldozer ran over it? 😜
Is that a 62' Rag top?
If so..I had one n 68' beetle
Love VW..♥️✌️
Same Woman? Priceless.. Oh... I noticed that Type3 as you rolled past it too
Only one person in car being pulled over. Driver had burgundy colored shirt.???
Brilliant, I'd have gone through loads of cars and girls since then.....😂
Everything is the same , the driver the women the car the place even the house in background, except the cop are not the same 😅😍
I remember thoughts days
Son of the original police officer 😂 No only kidding. So glad you've had your car and your girl for so long.
