Great video. I would love to have these models. I keep building plastic models, but they turn out alright, not good, but not bad. Also, even though it doesn't matter, the Missouri was not in Vietnam, that was only the USS New Jersey, a fellow Iowa.
Lovely presentation ! Especially liked the side-by-side comparison, and the historical points were a real bonus. You`d enjoy reading BLUEJACKET, by John A. Hutchinson. Puts you right there ON one of these big handsome ships during WW2. Thanks for sharing !
I’m 53 years old.i find my hands shake more...harder to build now. But these models are easy to give a weak black wash...some fine point pens can bring out the hidden detail in these fine models. And since most model kits are $60.00 I find these a very fun bargain!
British Aircraft Carrier HMS Ark Royal is out :) A superb model... Also here in England the KM Tirpitz Norway 1943 paint scheme and USS Missouri Tokyo Bay 1945 different paint scheme .( Not seen your Tirpitz or Missouri with your paint schemes here in UK ) Also according to forces of valor catalogue, next aircraft carrier out is supposed to be USS Hornet. ( Midway ? ) Would of been nice for Authenticity purposes to have provided a Swastika in the form of a Transfer/Decal to be applied by the owner if wished...This needs to be considered for future reference if Forces of Valor ever decide to release the " Ugly Sisters " the German Battle Cruisers KM Scharnhorst and KM Gneisenau who both sported the swastika, mainly for aircraft recognition. Last but not least I hope FOV release a British battleship from King George V class.
Hey Neil. The HMS Ark Royal IS a superb model. I also like your Swastika sticker idea! Hopefully Unimax will include that on their next iteration of the Bismarck. heh One can hope... Meanwhile, I heard the USS Hornet will rock the Doolittle Raid scheme. And yep, the "Ugly Sisters" and King George V class would be awesome. I'm also hoping that Unimax will flesh out the rest of the Iowa class and gives us a "Musashi" since the molds already exist. Anyway, thanks for the comment and thanks for watching. :)
@@hiredugarn1 Totally agree I think some Japanese aircraft carriers is almost required since we now have an ark royal and will get the hornet, therefore, a Kaga, Akagi or Shokaku MUST HAPPEN I need it
The Iowa class was made to go through the Panama canal with in only 6 inches to a foot per side depending on who you talk to, thats why they are so narrow, but very fast. The fire control system for the 16 inch guns was so accurate that even in the 80s and 90s it wasn't upgraded with all the other upgrades to the Iowa class ships.
It also bombed the French Fleet. She was a Battlecruiser with 15 inch guns. Upgraded and as good on paper as Bismarc. In terms of armor and guns. Hood sailed the seas for over 20 yrs and Bismarc sank with wet paint. Hood was longer than Bismarc.
I have 5 of these. I want more of them but, I haven't been able to find any good ones on Amazon... Also Bißmarck had great AA its just that the swordfish biplanes were canvas planes from the 30's so the flack rounds went through the plane and didn't explode... Great vid btw
To be historically accurate the Bismarck ONLY had the Swastika's pained on the decks when she was transiting out to see so German Aircraft didn't accidentally bomb her. By the time of the battle of the Denmark Strait the Swastika's were painted over. They were NOT a permanent part of her pain scheme.
Hood was 3 shorted. The first shot was a fire the second shot was form eiher prince eugen or a Bismarck secindarys on conning tower and the 3rd shot was the ammo rack
I don't know if they're still being made. Forces of Valor (or Unimax I think) is the manufacturer but I think the only place you can get them now are places like e-bay, craigslist and private collectors. It wouldn't hurt to check the website tho.
Forces of valor just came out with a 1/700 diecast chinese aircraft carrier the lioning and apprently in 2020 we will be seeing new 1/700 diecast models, just letting you know! check them out on face book!
Quality control is a problem with all the pre-made diecast models. It truly is hit or miss! Some vendors say they inspect the model for defects before they ship but I have received many models with obvious defects that were missed. I repair them if possible. With your Bismarck I would look at the production variation as a foreshadowing of its fate! Actually it really is not all that noticeable, I have seen much worse production variations as the manufacturers call them.
Thanks for the comment Mike. And thanks for the correction. I meant to reference the Iowa class as a whole, but said Missouri instead. I'm surprised I didn't make more flub ups during the video. hehe Oh yeah, your modeling skills sound a lot like my own. Not bad persay, just not good. :D
Fact the Yamato class according to engineering reports was in worst condition than the Bismarck class, with cases of light bulps blowing up for no reason to internal wiring
Bismark not stickered correctly. Should be crosses on the 3 main powered canons. I might be wrong though. who cares if the paint is a little off. these ships look awsome.
I know this IS an old vid, but I hope you can answer my question, how did you paint the ships? I just bought the Zclass 1/700 Tamiya kit, and I'm not sure how to paint it because it is extremely small, should I paint it when it is all apart or do it when is assembled? Also brush or airbrush?
A friend just ordered a 1:1100 scale battleship from Eaglemoss....did not know of this series, but I like something not too big for one hand. Do you have any 1:1100-scale diecast ships? If so, how do they compare? and with so much plastic, does can you still feel the 'heft'? P.S. I can't find these on Amazon; what's the vendor name?
Very nice models but if I paid sixty dollars for a prebuilt ship and it was as poorly done as your Bismarck , I would have returned it and demanded a replacement or my money back.
Navis Neptun Spidernavy at 1:1250 scale are simply stunning if you can find them at reasonable prices. Force of Valor are nice, but still look too much like toys. No rigging and the masts look like an afterthought and are molded rather poorly in several instances. The USS Enterprise is fairly impressive, however.
They all look awesome, the only problem I have with FOF well two problems, 1 they only make the Main Stream ships, 2 they are BLOODY expensive! Any hints for other model ships? Cause I am looking for British/Japanese Ships including but not limited to the Kongo Class and Fuso Class
Thanks for watching! Yep, these ships certainly aren't cheap! That said, I think they're still a solid value for what they are! I don't know of any upcoming ships beyond the CV-8 Hornet. That should be a popular model. I hear you though - I would LOVE to see ships like the Kongo, Fuso, King George V, South Dakota, etc... You should look into EagleMoss warships. They have most of those, albeit at a smaller scale.
Shiden Kai I found out that Eaglemoss, is producing models as well, they are quite nice and come at a decent price, although they won't be in Europe for qeuite some time
JagdTiger88mm I'd love to bring in the Eaglemoss models, but alas, I have nowhere to put em'. Hopefully the company will find a reliable distributor for the European market.
+TheSteven798v2 - I apologize for the delay. The Bismarck is roughly 14 inches in length. Yeah, 1/700 scale isn't for everybody. That said, I cannot imagine how expensive it would be to offer a hybrid diecast/plastic model at a larger scale!
Ever notice now a days they produce those WW2 ships without the swastika painted on it? Even when you buy plastic models they don't give your the swastika decal.
ualuuanie in Europe companys can't print swastikas but there is a loop hole in Asia were they can print two half's or or four parts . this is what I read on a website
gabriel keepes Hey Gabriel, as of now, Forces of Valor doesn't have a big catalog to choose from. You're pretty much limited to the Missouri, Yamato, Hood, Arizona, and Tirpitz. The Bismarck has been out of production for awhile. If you're looking to build up an entire fleet of warships, then you should check out the Eaglemoss 1:100 models.
@@hiredugarn1 Wow is very expensive and not very accurate. It's really an arcade style shootfest. Try Atlantic Fleet for the PC. It's really cheap with decent graphics. Absolutely! 3000toys was great to deal with, and Wartoyz showcased excellent customer service. I say that because I recently ordered the Arizona from Wartoyz, and when the model arrived I noticed a number of workmanship issues. When I spoke to Wartoyz about the issue, not only were they happy to send me a brand new model (on the same day no less), but they also included a pre-paid shipping label for the defective unit. They're awesome. :)
Sure it would definitely win against these behemoth but It wouldn't kill USS Iowa. Because USS Iowa is better equipped for environment, it have far more advanced radar, firing control system and rangefinder. USS Iowa is able to sail at 33+ knots which IJN Yamato could only do 27 knots, USS Iowa is more maneuverable and it's firepower known as 16 inch guns have superior accuracy over the IJN Yamato's huge 18 inch guns. USS Iowa have far superior and more experienced crew and this will be a low difficulty for USS Iowa to sink IJN Yamato.

For what it's worth, that 'sideways lifeboat' isn't a flaw in the model. It was like that on the Hood.
