I think the student book is sufficient but I think I might have used flashcard games and an abacus 🧮 Not sure if I used the abacus in 3rd or not but we had one for the ower grades. Hope this helps!!!
I am using BJU kindergarten math this year with my kindergartner. It has been a good fit for her. I plan on using BJU next year for math for her. My other kids are using Math-U-See, but she needed a spiral approach to math.
Did they teach how to skip count from 6-9 in grade 2? My daughter is in 3rd grade but she still need to practice those. I guess we can start after she finishes multiplication 2-5 chapter though.
Yeah, I can see why. A lot of YT videos are more about BJU online but you can choose to teach from the workbooks like any other curriculum. They have great resources!
I've only used the student books, so far I haven't needed a teacher guide but it is probably helpful if you need extra help explaining the concepts. I'm sure I will need one for later grades.
Like the colors and pictures, but looks like common core correct me if I am wrong. He does not enjoy common core and I am not good at math. Thanks for sharing.
Do you feel this math curriculum solidifies math facts well? Or do you find yourself having to work with your student independently to get them down pat?
I think it's a great curriculum, it teaches using the spiral-method- basically it goes over concepts throughout the book and reviews older concepts taught. I think it also depends on the child and if they are natural at math or not. Some students might need more help no matter what curriculum they use. I still use this with my kids and highly recommend it 👍🏼 Hope this helps!

Does the teachers manual add much to the workbook?
I'm not sure, I never had one for this grade. If you go to the BJU website you can see inside a teacher guide for this specific grade 😀

Do you need anything else for grade 3 Math (example manipulatives or extra worksheets)? Or is this (student workbook) sufficient as is?
I think the student book is sufficient but I think I might have used flashcard games and an abacus 🧮

That's what I like about homeschooling, you can cater differently for each child. I'm glad you figured out what works for them👍🏼👍🏼

Yes, they do learn it I 2nd grade and 1st in this specific curriculum. I love teaching skip counting on an abacus! Or fun things like candy or lego.

Is this BJU press? I love how this looks but when I go on their website it shows me a different book
Yes, it is BJU. Maybe this edition is not current, this one was the newest edition when I used it. Are you looking at the same level?

Do you use the teachers manuals? I’ve heard they are geared towards a classroom and can be hard to adapt for homeschool.
No, I didn't purchase the teachers manual. So far I haven't needed one yet.
I'm sure they are helpful...I might have to in the later grades

For some reason I always associate BJU with online learning.
Yeah, I can see why. A lot of YT videos are more about BJU online but you can choose to teach from the workbooks like any other curriculum. They have great resources!
Do you know if this is common core?
I don't think they follow it but I'm sure it covers all the math skills needed for each grade.

Can you just use the textbook or would I need to have the other books as well?
I've only used the student books, so far I haven't needed a teacher guide but it is probably helpful if you need extra help explaining the concepts. I'm sure I will need one for later grades.
