As the director of the episode, LeVar likely would have considered Archer a failure if he allowed Sim to pilot the shuttle. It goes against the script after all

I must be getting good at picking up on these, because the volume change that happened before he had difficulty seeing what needed to be said is what I noticed right away. That allowed me to listen and more on what was about to be said. Don’t fail Levar
I think (if memory serves) Trip is in a coma and this is a clone of him that will be a brain donor. The clone Trip has a very short lifespan and wants to do something important with the limited time he has, but Archer needs the clone Trip's body to be safe to harvest his remains. One of those "WTF?" ethical dilemma episodes. "Failing LeVar" of course is the actor forgetting his lines and just making a joke about director LeVar Burton.
The fear of disappointing LeVar seems very common. Luckily, you can't disappoint a picture!
It's still a heavy Burton to carry.
