A 500hp V8 Swapped Miata is the Best Idea Ever

  • The formula has been around for years: big motor swapped into small car. So what’s the best possible combo of those two, while staying street-able with common parts? An LS3 in a Miata, duh. Biggest engine in the smallest car. Flyin’ Miata has been perfecting that recipe for some time, and this ND Miata is the pinnacle of their work.

I have found and saved the rarest Mazda FC RX7 ever made! Now this car is rare. Really rare! Let me break this down really quick...
Ever heard of the rare 100 GTUs rx7s? Only 40 have ever been claimed and only 7 are confirmed at the time of this posting! Here are the rarest rx7 FC3S models:
      1500 10AE Turbo models
      1400 infini
      1000 winning limited
      150 final edition convertible
      100 GTUs...
      out of that 100:
      83 red on black
      10 black on black
      7 white on blue
There was only 100 GTUs models created between 1989 and 1991.
If you own one of these rare models sign your car up to the registry list here on any of the rotary forums!
There are rumors about a restamped GTUs model...
The entire origins GTUs owners thread on the rx7club was modified, icemarks claims deleted, registry list changed to have a confirmed section and the mods agree there are not enough GTUs models to have the restamped.
Icemark cites himself while making up the claims almost 20 years ago. 😆
There are no restamped GTUs models, only GTU. Stop spreading false information. There are only 100 GTUs models made, only 40ish have been claimed to have been found, only 7 have been confirmed!
      www.rx7club.com/2nd-gen-general-discussion-323/very-rare-detail-fc-1129229/
If you have a real GTUs you can register it here!

The wiring, and getting the electronics to work with the rest of the car (gauges, lights, fuel system, ABS to non-ABS, harness incompatibilities, etc.) so that it could be drivable and pass inspection was an absolute freaking nightmare. Wiring diagrams literally the size of a kitchen table with print smaller than 08 font. _Lots_ of cutting, splicing/soldering and retrofitting sensors. And that was for a same make/similar platform swap. Can’t imagine how much of a pain the dissimilarity here must have been.

@@Ladybirdsin16mm the numbers I'm seeing on mx5 forums is it will add 120 pounds to the front, 60 pounds to the back (LS trans is heavy). Something to keep in mind is the mx5 engine is cast iron, compared to the ls3 being aluminum.
I have seen before that it doesn't mess up weight distribution as much as you'd think. But weight distribution isn't a big deal anyway, most of it has been just marketing. Unless it's a wild amount, it won't change handling. Weight distribution from side to side is far more important than front to back
I don't remember where I saw that it was 40 pounds so I can't back that up. I don't believe that is correct
Edit- v8 miata is roughly 55/45 compared to the factory 52/48. By moving the v8 back towards the firewall people have numbers like 52.6/47.4

The whole point of that program was to refine the kit it seems. It is important to test your kit on multiple cars if you want to make a really polished kit. Cars on one side of factory tolerances can have problems if you made a kit with a car with things on the other side of the tolerance range.

@@EjinRenos Yeah. It depends on how the Rotary is ported that decides if it handles boost well. That's why people knocked on the RX8 because the renesis ports dumb down the reliability if boosted- which the sole purpose of a renesis port is for reliability. I had an FC and an RX8 and I'd pick the RX8 over the FC any day. The RX8 had two owners, first owner took care of it, second didn't. It had 115k on the 6 port and had no compression loss. I would pay up to $85,000 for this, although it’s probably more. Almost a perfect, well-rounded driver’s car. A track beast with a convertible and loud exhaust, and an enjoyable cruiser with an option for a quiet exhaust. You can daily it for a reasonable fuel economy. You can have fun by opening the exhaust valves and going through the gears. Pretty easy to fix GM power train, although electronics might be a reliability problem.
