Super Metroid - Any% TAS -

- This is a any% TAS of Super Metroid using a new route that makes use of the so called GT code that lets get a bunch of items by holding all the face buttons when entering the door to GT, as well as have glitching with the use of the space time beam, which includes gaining control to enter and execute arbitrary code to the game and triggering the ending early. The run was made by me, but the arbitrary code execution was developed and executed by amaurea and total who are listed as co authors.
Tool Assisted - these games are played using a emulator at super slow speeds and save states. The goal is to provide entertainment by showing off game glitches and beating the game as fast as possible.

so what I gathered at the end is that Samus broke space and time and just ram into the planet core to blow the planet up. Man, how much more can this game be broken to beaten quickly?
A TAS run that saves the animals. Now that is impressive.
First 5 minutes, standard SM TAS route: no worries.
Then you started pause buffering to save yourself from dying: ...ok, yep still good.
Then you triggered GT mode: Cool I understand this again.
Then collected the same super missile pack 3 times, ran in a circle in a room and the game ends. Time 00:05. Items collected: 999%

And just when I thought this game couldn't get broken any more than it already has been...we get this. Just mind boggling.
I guess the planet couldn't handle Samus's glitch tricks, resulting in self-destruction.

I knew what was happening until right after you executed the GT code. Then you lost me... Good job Cpadolf, you've broken this game even more than before.
***** I have seen that TAS and I know that the concept is the same. After the GT code though, the game just gets effed up beyond all recognition. It's entertaining to watch, though.

I think even the original developers would look at this and go 「一体 何?!」 after watching this.
I have got a question: I think you mentioned that the in-game-timer stops as long as Samus has 00 E.-Tank-Energy (and arbitrary Reserve-Tank-Energy) earlier, and as far as I know (because of the SM. page in tasvideos) the in-game-timer stops during pause screens, too.
So, provided that one would try to complete the game with minimal in-game-time, could one achieve this by reducing Samus´ health after Ceres (since Start cannot be used for Pause Abuse in Ceres) and getting 00 Energy in Zebes as soon as possible (probably using the first space pirates after getting Morphingball) to run through most parts of the game using Pause Abuse (and further optimization for R.-Tanks that could be necessary whenever one cannot use Start (PB.s, elevators,...)?
Depending on the category (OoB., Space-Time-Beam, GT.-Code,... allowed or forbidden) one would also have to optimize Tourian, since some E.-Tank-Energy could be needed to survive MB.´s rainbow-beam...
But anyways, great TAS!

Samus has less and less on as you beat the game quicker... so I think a nude would have been appropriate here.

Probably not, I just used a catch-all script provided at TASvideos to encode the run and this was the file it spat out.

It seems to me there is already a category for this kind of bug abuse in cpadolf's run at 21:25.12. This one is much faster and isn't 50% X-Ray scope..
Considering that a SNES console can only show 16-bit quality, I don't expect anyone having 4K without something to enhance the quality.

Uhg, I hate TAS runs where "beat the game" means "get to the end credits." When I play a game, I consider it beaten the instant I kill the boss, not when the credits are done.
The game is considered beaten when you don't have to push any more buttons.

It makes no difference on who holds the record, or by how much faster the record is.
