  • Diffusion filters. Love them or hate them, we need to understand them. I compared Black Pro-Mist, Black Satin, and Hollywood Black Magic at 1/4 strength to understand the differences.

Decent test. I'd also reccomend trying out the 1/8th strength in either tiffen or Schneider. Would love to see another video like this with spherical lenses as well.

🤷🏽‍♂️ when you play the role of DP, AC, Director, Writer, & Producer…something’s bound to mess up.

Nice test, you should give glimmer glass a try, it seems more subtle than the black mist filters.

Pearlescent 1/8 if your going for a glossy shiny speculator highlight type commercial look. :)

Which one is your favorite for the “cinematic film look”?

In my personal opinion, I would choose either the Black Magic or the Black Satin if you have a cinema camera with great dynamic range. Black Pro Mist if you’re on a mirrorless/hybrid camera.
You’d typically want all of that information in the waveform with some blooming in the highlights.
