The "unbalanced" enemies sound like every DRPG I've ever played.
1. Struggle with enemies.
2. Finally conquering them.
3. Move a bit further, encounter tougher enemies > back to 1.
4. Reach a new floor > get absolutely steamrolled by new variants.
Isn’t there an Easy mode too?
it took me 40 hours before i started caring about the scions of the 7th dawn. I think I can do this
I always adore this kind of art style. I may play the game just for that reason.
I sometimes play games and turn a blind eye to its shortcomings if the art direction is very solid.
Thanks for pointing out it has auto-saves. That is a QOL feature I value greatly and a lot of JRPGs, even modern ones, can still lack them.
SMT V reminded me of this
Also available on Nintendo Switch..
Yeah, I love it how they will say PS5 or XBSX only. 🤷🏽♂️
Never mind I can’t read. They had to include it in the description
probably digital only 79.99 lol
The art is gorgeous but the effect animations are... kinda awful? Like that wisps effect when enemies die disappears abruptly and spells are just about serviceable-looking. It's the opposite of what I thought about Octopath Traveler, which has mesmerizing effect animations but acquired taste art direction.
Great review with fair criticism. Still getting this day one and can't wait.
Great review! Will be getting this day one
Me too. Gamepass! 😄
Thank you!
Glad to see this on Xbox game pass! A game like this which looks pretty good but still has some issues is the perfect game pass game to try out IMO.
I can't get it to work for some reason on my series x
Great video and honest review! Mind if I ask the background music?
Fair review. I might take a look at this game at a later date after + a few updates.
kinda remind me of the first Valkyrie Profile. the side scroll and (if implemented in-game) time limit thing. Art style is charming and i'm on homecoming trip to JRPGs. it's perfect
Its exactly the reason that the creators of FF and Vagrant Story was inspired during the development of this game :3
The battles being a war of attrition is what lost me, so many turn battle games end up falling into this situation unfortunately.
Exactly. It looks so good too. 😭
Thx for the review
Thanks for watching!
In the comments...people that took this review personally. Surprised to see people getting upset over legitimate criticisms...that so many other rpgs also suffer from.
Your review was good. It's exactly what I thought this game would be like based on the previews and what the team behind it is know for.
Also for everyone that was too busy getting upset to actually listen. He liked the game and really only criticized what sounded like unfair enemy design and qol issues.
@@NoisyPixelNews More like over zealous fan boys. The kind that pour their self worth into a product or the like and then get butt hurt when people criticize said product.
Also you're review is actually the nicest one about this game currently.
Yea I noticed that. I think I become nicer when I spend more than 24 hours with a game because I don’t want to admit I wasted too much time haha I had fun though!
So far , at least this one dont complain about no quest marker and map not point out where you should to go . The map and quest stuff pretty look like Odin sphere and Valkyrie profile game
Yea I didn’t have an issue with navigation most of the time. I just tried to explore everything
Love this art style look
stun lock mechanics in general are so annoying unless then have an ability to break it.
Reminds me of Valkyrie Profile. Must buy.
Love that game
I’m sooo in love with the art style and presentation of this game so it’s kinda 💔 to see that it seems to have quite a few things bringing it down.
What are the quality of life improvements you talk about ?
The game probably looks not perfect but its a game created from the veterans of Final Fantasy, Vagrant Story, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, Chrono Trigger etc...and i like turn based games so this is an very fresh air compared to so many action RPG nowadays, i like this classic style and variated characters like the classic JRPG :3
What’s reply value like
@@michaelschneider1365 it depend from your heart
You forgot to put at the beginning also available on Nintendo Switch
Fixed in the about section
Reminds me of Dragon's Crown, they got that Vanillaware aesthetic down. The combat doesn't sound fun tho.
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim creator are involved :3
I've played about 4-5 hours. It does seem like the menus and upgrades could be easier to distinguish (too many Stat numbers for just a plus here, minus there), but I find this game beautiful and a fine work. I don't know if I would complete it without a more enticing story, but just seeing how much work the devs put in makes me want to see more.
well if stun lock is an issue, is there a good way to counter it? like are there immunity/resist skills/accessories?
I wasn’t able to buy the accessory to stop this, but I did find one. Other accessories are 30k each which is insane because weapons and armor are like 400 or cheaper in comparison. So I stopped even caring about looking at the accessories after awhile because they were too expensive. I think in a super late game town you can buy the stun one, but it’s too expensive to buy 8 each!
So in general it's possible to cheese some fights with the right equipment but you require to grind for them. Btw what is that diamond icon on the top left? a turn counter? what happen if it goes "minus"?
Basically if an attack is “resisted” you’ll loose focus. Focus is used to power up abilities similar to Bravely Default. It goes minus when you’ve hit the enemy resistant too many times so you can’t power up attacks until you make that positive.
@@NoisyPixelNews I c TY!
Sorry, you make it positive by hitting the enemy weakness which can be found or scanned for
Fair shake - will wait for a sale, then toss it on the ol' backlog!!
Really wish the rest of the game lived up to the unique and inspired art direction.
I was taken aback to see standard JRPG combat, something about the party placement and nav abilities screamed Valkyrie Profile/Exist Archive to me.
You finished it already?
@@Enigmalake Just going off the review, have only played the sequel thus far.
@@Nersius idk this page always seems like they toss out some generic review with a 7 or 8 out of 10 slapped on with a huge cast so who can take their merit on anything
@@Enigmalake I think we do great reviews :P
@@NoisyPixelNews I’m thinking you’re a little biased 😂 . I dig the coverage about lesser known games but the scores seem pointless unless you’re trying to get your name on an accolades trailer
Is there any endgame or extra challenging content to play through after the story?
Yes, there’s reason to go back to challenge some tougher bosses or 100% the dungeons if you want. You can beat the game in 28 hours, but play for like 50 if you want.
Unskippable cutscenes? that's a no go, soldier!
Love battling in Jrpgs, but I hate lengthy battles.
Great review, man!
So, it's a slight improvement compared to Super Neptunia RPG...
At least the combat still looks nice and we have EQUIPMENT slots akin to standard JRPGs lol. Also, the skill system here looks to be much better than the other one with you choosing which skill you want to learn to create your own character builds.
Art style is still looking great like their previous effort ngl.
Speaking of playable characters, does everyone gain experience points even when you're not using them for a while (or not at all) like in Neptunia RPG? I never liked having to switch around characters just so they play catch up in case the game forces you to use some you didn't level up enough.
They all gain experience whether or not they participated in battle. Haha it does have some super nep vibes huh
Hmm looks i won't be in a hurry to play this. Will probably wait for it to go on sale for $10. Yeah i rarely buy full priced games xD
Will auto menus be in a patch?
Reminds me of a Vanillaware game.
So it’s like a diet Metroidvania in the environments but turn based?
It's coming to gamepass so it's an easy download for me. Thanks for the review and I'm glad you provided legit criticism so I know what I'm getting into.
I love the tall thick waifus so it's gonna be an immediate play for me lol
Knowing what you want is the first step :)
Tall, thicc waifus, yeah- always yeah. :D
I almost bought it lol thanks for the info
Sounds like the combat needs a lot of attention. I'f u rather die for an easy explode....
Can't recall doing that in my Rpfs.
It's an old genre with great examples.
I wonder if time or internal stuff is to blame.
ps. the word *grind* always puts me off
I don’t think I’ve seen a review from this channel that doesn’t over emphasize the negative in each game.
We have fun with most games lol
@@NoisyPixelNews that’s fine but maybe give more probs to what the devs do right
@Maveth The Reaper I’m all for honesty in reviews but I didn’t stumble into this video. I actually come to this channel for reviews but the last couple of ones have had a tone that feels off that’s all.
I thought it was bizarre that he cited spending time in menus as a negative… in a JRPG. Not to mention saying it’s a problem that enemies in new dungeons are a problem, which is exactly what I expect when progressing a game. Unless, there’s no side quests to help you level up, that’s how a game is supposed to work. Citing having to stick up on health potions like it’s an issue is strange too.
It feels like they got someone who doesn’t like JRPGs to review a JRPG. I might have to watch someone else review it
good mic
My only question is the music epic enough to justify an import from playasia to get the collector's edition which has English and a music CD? Otherwise it looks like another fun jrpg.
The music is almost too good
@@NoisyPixelNews well looks like I need to import the collector's edition to get that music CD.
the game is available on switch, too
Yea we corrected it in the about section
the audio on the review is too bass heavy. Is there something wrong with the mic?
No, we’re just all about that bass. Chad reviewers
Can you change the main character out of combat, to run arround?
You can use a turn to switch as many characters as you’d like.
@@NoisyPixelNews I think he meant to navigage the overworld. Or do you have to explore as the main character
Oh it’s only Ulan while exploring
@@NoisyPixelNews thank you, sorry my english is not the best
Anyone stuck on the tittle screen of this game ?
i will play
I was exited for this game, and now i am even more after you said that the combat was hard. Thats what i want from games, hard and challenging. When you said that the enemy can stun lock your party, i immediately thought that that was one those game "breaking things" we do to easy pass fights, but now its enemy that does it. Awesome
Yea there is challenge here for sure! I just didn’t like the breaking the game. For some reason the bosses would attack the character of their weakness so the rhythm during a boss fight is always, focus twice, attack the weak spot, boss kills the character that attacked them, revive, focus twice, repeat. It only broke up when they were all stunned so I just hoped they wouldn’t be wiped after 3 turns. But there’s a full party revive item too. So after that, I’d just get back to the rhyme.
Quit wanting hard games.
Quit playing games, cretin.
The battle worries me. I don’t know why but apparently, the only way most developers especially indies that I noticed, usually will either make the battle too difficult or too long as a method to ‘engage’ the players. Maybe it’s my age, but I prefer casual rpgs rather than the whole min max difficult thing. Shame, game looks pretty.
I’ll keep an eye on this as a game to pick up physically down the line.
Hopefully the switch version runs well since this developers previous game ran horrible.
exactly my worry, I really want it for switch as it suits the system so well and would be nice to play on the go (the rare times I do play handheld) but not if it is a chuggy mess.
With bigger review channels like this it's hard to say if the game is really hard or that they are just not good at them so i wait for review from someone who specialize in JRPGs
Psh, I platinumed the first three Nep games. Tell me I don’t have what it takes! - Azario
With hard you mean the difficulty of this game? There are four difficulties: Very Easy, Easy, Normal and Hard. "Normal" is Hard in other JRPGs. "Hard" is an absolutely nightmare. On "Normal", enemies CAN kill your entire party with one single AOE, even if you always buy the best gear. On "Hard" they WILL. So yeah... This game is challenging af if you decide to play at least on "Normal".
This guy sounds like the dude who says Burger King foot lettuce lol..
People should learn that you can like and enjoy games rated 6 and 7.
Had this on my radar and was gonna pick it up at some point for sure but your review has convinced me to pick it up sooner rather than later. I know it has issues but I gotta play this. I have no issue with heavy menu usage, I weirdly like it, I frickin love number crunching, The music is an important factor to me and you say its great, Graphical style looks great, I hate the 2d exploration style but will get over it. Love the idea of the characters and story. Will pick this up. Now to find out how it performs on switch or to just go ps5 hmmmm
You like math dont u...
@@jinchuriki7022 In school I disliked math actually but I love making builds in games like diablo and baldurs gate and weighing up pros and cons of equipment and abilities, positives and negatives, hit chance, crit chance, speed, accuracy, weight etc, measuring all the variables and putting together a unique build and watching to see if it plays out how I calculated and when it does then that feels great. If I come up against a tough obstacle or boss then I make adjustments and if those adjustments work to help me bypass said obstacle then the addictive side of it kicks in lol
@@Terron29 yeah thats definitely complicated. I prefer a simple Rock, Paper, Scissors design. I tend to just speedroll games nowadays cause free time is limited.
@@jinchuriki7022 Thats fair too. Each to their own. I enjoy simpler games too sometimes like I love some old school simpler jrpgs like the older final fantasies or breath of fire or grandia but then I play something like pathfinder and I am in heaven with options and choices. I love very deep challenging games. Sometimes I am doing nothing but staring at a screen for half an hour deciding what to level and what to equip but on the harder difficulties these details matter so much. Like a game of chess. Its addictive and thoroughly engaging for me :D
Love the art style but,
not a fan of the sub 3D-ish, moving 2D image animation of characters. But to each there own story seems good.
I love the pixel art 3D style from octopath traveler and the upcoming triangle strategy.
The artstyle from astria is also not my jam. Often dislike the overdone proportions, especially when you get huge tiddy females in bikini armor. Though it's mercyfully toned down here, but Ulan still seems to have a ... uh particular swingy upper body.
@@paulszki she’s got the jiggle for sure lol
Veri veri nice review. Art look veri nice n all but can't help feel like the game like kinda shit... Also now am wondering if there new game plus and will the cutscenes be skippable then...
So after 7 hours into the game so far its fun , but very punishing and it does not hold your hand in the slightest. I wouldn’t recommend the game for an average jrpg player but more for someone looking for a more classic rpg thats tough to learn but rewarding
I hate relying on consumable items in RPG's. So you saying that it is pretty much essential is a bummer.
got it for 20$ on ebay new, noice
Just put the game on Hard mode ( battle) and have fun :D
I know 8 Classes are tied to 1 character each,
Are the other 12 Classes shared to all the Characters?
I assume 12 due to it involves the zodiac , wonder if there's a 13th , heh.
SAPEEEEEE
why I became interested in the game: T H I G H S
Me too lol
GamePass game for sure
Not the biggest fan of the character designs or the animations but i don't hate it. Willing to give it a try for the turn-based combat.
Lol, just 25 hours? Sounds rather short 🤔
Odin sphere no comparison
lost interest in turn based games idk why.. ☹ used to play ff series before and some tbg. artwork is so nice but really want to play it sidescroll hack n slash like castlevania
So basically to me this review boils down to: if you liked Battle Chasers, this game's for you. If you didn't like Battle Chasers, skip this game.
There were many times where you complete a dungeon "right" but get to the boss and they just wipe the floor with you, at least by the mid-game. So I'm used to punishment very well. Likewise in Battle Chasers, you spent a lot of time in menus tinkering with each member's battle skills and equipment. Although to be fair you did this with three characters at a time and Astria is almost triple that so I can see the complaint.
That aside, this game seems a lot in common and I was a big fan of Battle Chasers so I may be looking into this (or until they ever get around to releasing that LoL rpg lol)
Yea I beat Battle Chasers a long time ago and I can see some comparisons there! - Azario
@@NoisyPixelNews Same! Well, I have the last area/boss to beat but got sidetracked by some other games 😬
Also, nice review!
Battle chasers is such an awesome gem with its great music. The only thing i hated about battle chasers was when u acquired new characters they are severly leveled down and u have to grind to build them up which because one to two hits would easily doen those characters. It was a Cheap way of making the game longer. A game doesnt have to be long to e enjoyable or great.
@@redcrimson1028 Exact same complaint I have. It easily added 10+ hours more than what I needed to finish the game.
The illustrations are great but the flat animation style looks too much like paper cut-outs being manipulated. I can not overlook that no matter how nice the rest of the game plays...
Smt?
5 hours become 50? lol I know you didnt mean it but you literally said someone could be sitting there playing for 50 hours nonstop believing only 5 hours has actually passed.
Its just as expression -__-
@@NoisyPixelNews well yeah I did say you didn’t mean it but it just had to be said
Yeah i really wanna spend my life grinding and fighting pointless enemies just to get through the next bit. No thanks. Isn't it about time this archaic battle system gets fleshed out? I dont mind turn based but damn - make the fights more dynamic/environment based/and reduce fodder enemies. We're getting too old for this shit.
Xbox gamepass thank you
It looks nice but those menus and stats are a turnoff. Like goddamn, it's a game not a math test. Doesn't look like a game for occasional rpg players.
Fuck... I love how the game looks, story seems good, but the poor balance is a deal breaker for me. I'm so tired of cakewalk-JRPGs that basically ruin their own battle systems because how of easy they are.
Gamers are becoming more entitled to easy and quick growth without much effort. Thats what I got from this review...
i mean no hate but sometime i wonder if yall at noisy pixek have ever played a jrpg before. I respect yalls takes and videos but sometimes the complaints within are BAFFELING and are what leave me wondering how so called experienced jrpg players claim to have been here before. Battles are frustrating till you focus on enemy weakness? No shite sherlock (no hate intended)
Being bad at a game doesn’t make it unbalanced bro.
You’re right bro. Man brb gotta go rethink my life.
Because dealing with artificial difficulty makes one "bad"
Yet he still made it through the game...
Get out of here scrubby 🤣
Came here after seeing the trailer which showed no gameplay or anything. I can see why their trailer wouldn't show anything either, this game looks like Mobile trash.
Looks nice, plays terrible.. boring.. tedious.. most people that buy this game will regret it
yea im at first boss and already sick of the game
JRPGS.... Pretty but seldom ever have any substance. Shame... these character sprites are enough to inspire fan art and fiction. I'll be passing this title up.
Gamepass 🙏🏼
It's almost 2 years since this buggy piece of s*** came out, the devs still couldn't be bothered to fix game breaking problems and those that they said they did fix still pop up.
I got stunlocked alright... But not by the enemy. NPCs giving you side quests will hold you there for the rest of eternity after the cutscene unless you turn off the game and load a save. Volume randomly turning it up to 11 and you have to restart the game. Fuck the Chronomancer class because that shit has it's own list of game breaking bugs. And guess what? You have to restart the damn game again.
Do not buy this game people. If you have Game Pass, sure, give it a go. But let me say this that devs just completely abandoned it.

Lmao, “Play the game for 1 month before making a full review”, I’m sorry but I couldn’t help but laugh at such an absurd statement. It’s completely fine if you disagree with his critiques, but to think that a game reviewer needs to invest over 200+ hours into a game (many of which are only 20-30 hours) before they’re allowed to form an opinion is absolute buffoonery.

The game looks like a shitty mobile game.
"I would have loved to see an auto or auto optimize" bro shut up and keep that mobile gaming crap on mobile games.
Tactical rpgs are for old boring people that are stuck in past.. this is how tactical games in real life.. "I hit you! And now it is your turn to hit me!" Wtf is that!? So stupid!
Lol it actually takes logic, tactic, item management, and planning-- hence "tactical" games nowadays focus more on making their game shiny and sparkly where you can button mash mindlessly. Been playing a plethora of genre for 26 yrs (I've been playing video games since I was 5) and i still love jrpgs the best that have turn base/tactic coz it makes my brain work. Pair that with a wonderful story and character depth, and I'll play the shit out of it. I feel like a real gamer doesn't shit on genres other people enjoy. Lolol doing so just makes you look immature, childish, and ignorant.
