I have the same baler, except it has net wrap on it. I really like it, except the problem with Casey hay. But, since I have learned the balers likes & dislikes, I don’t have a problem with it getting all clogged up. It’s been a great machine for me. Thanks for the review!

Morning Ben, you are spot on about the baler reliability and the starter roller not liking damp hay. I have the same 1745 baler and monitor, except with Hesston AGCO decals instead of MF.

The Hesston design is a good designed baler, in my opinion they’re up the quality wise with Deere and Vermeer. I was working at a Deere dealer in ‘17 and I don’t think you could’ve got a Deere for that price back then. Personally I’ve got a New Holland 630 4x4. It’s a good roller, but I think the bale chamber design is not as good as the Deere, Vermeer and Hesston/Massey. It definitely doesn’t make as tight of a roll as Deere, Vermeer, or Hesston/Massey. If I was in the market, I’d probably look at the 1745, but I’d probably want the newer D model too, just so I wouldn’t have to take the PTO in and out all the time. And for the folks that don’t watch Humble Haymakers, check them out. If you like Ben’s videos, there’s ante hood too.

Good review on the baler buddy. I started out with a gehl round baler years ago it was a 4x5 1475 it was set up close to the same as yours simple to run and operate. When I bought a new one I went to a 4x6 469 megawide john deere. I really like my 469 since I got used to the monitor on it and the net wrap saves me so much time compared to the string baler I had. The gehl took nearly two minutes to string with the auto tie. The main reason I switched from it was for the net but the gehl always rolled a good roll and a tight roll. And never give a problem with the auto tie. I have had the deere for several years know and it has been great but sometimes you will have a error code come up but most of the time it's the plug you will push a pin back in the connector but other than that it's been the best money I ever spent. The only draw back to the deere is the horse power that it takes to run it with the megawide pickup on it and it will really pull on your tractor when it's starting the roll.

Great Review of the baler, we have ran one on my uncles farm about 10-12 years now and it's the same as yours just a little older. and the only problem we have ever had is sometimes it does not like to cut the string the first time the twine comes home. I have a smaller version of the exact same baler MF142rd is the number on it it is the same as the Hesston 740. It is a true 4x4 and not the 39x42 bales that you mentioned in the video. It is a great baler also and i like it for my operation. has the same problem your does with the starter roller even. if its damp or green and i have to bale it for some reason i just get the old case 3450 ie new idea 485 out and that thing will eat anything but rocks and ask for more...lol

Enjoyed the review, I did look at this model of baler before I bought my JD 450E, which was a good deal in my area, it's a net wrap. I do like the bales it makes, fast wrapping, just a little more for the net wrap than twine, but stores better outside. I had issues with net wrap getting around the rollers and my wife got me a hook knife for pruning grapes, which works great, give it a try for your starter roll issue, it may help. Nice review, thanks and have a good evening.

Hello Ben, Nice Baler fir sure, i have never seen such difference in bales this year, farmers are trying to keep equipment because of low profit and increased Prices. Simplicity seems to going by the wayside every year🚜👍🏼

Ben, I see you had the same reasoning I did when I bought a new baler a few years back. Simplicity. I ended up getting a Krone Bellima F125 with net wrap and hydraulic tie. No electronics at all.
Glad you are happy with the 1745.

Been wanting to see this, since I've beenw watching your channel I've thought several times about "why haven't I ever seen a baler repair video from K&H? Currently running a Vermeer 505 M classic it's been a great baler but I am serioudly considering a Kubota BV 4580 because I have found a brand new but I would be the second owner. Someone bought it in December because he was going to bale hay this summer now he has changed his mind. The baler has never made a bale of hay and I can buy it for pretty much $20,000 less than a brand new from the dealer.

Thank you for the review Ben. I doubt you remember, but I commented on one of your videos before. I ordered a new 1745D in part based on watching your channel. It came to the dealer without the net wrap box...oops. I absolutely wanted net and they said it would be a year before I got the attachment. It was a hard decision, but I went with a Vermeer 504R that was immediately available and I'm very very happy with it, but I am out about twice what you paid for yours and at least 10 K more than the 1745D would have been. I do have a wide cam-less pick-up which I'd hate to part with, but I'm always impressed with the square "shouldered" bales you turn out. I don't know if you mentioned whether the twine tie is automatic or manual? I looked at a couple of used 4x5 Deere balers that only had twine and the sellers said that they ordered the balers that way because their customers said they would NOT buy net wrapped hay. Would your market be similar? I only get positive feedback on the net wrapped bales so far and like the fast baling. Custom balers here charge more for twine because of wear on the baler (more revolutions) and slower baling. I bale more corn stalks than anything else. Baling hay and straw is just so much better for the baler. I had planned on continuing to hire my stalks baled if I got the 1745. Thanks again.
