Silver can be used alongside gold for making black bronze, but gold is much harder to come by. Like silver it spawns in tiny veins inside quartz veins. You can also use it to improve a lantern's light level by making a silver plate and right clicking it on a placed lantern, gets you the highest light level light source currently in the game. Not a huge increase over a regular lantern, but still useful and nice to have
