    Nice ring, but it was sped up way too fast during the really interesting parts...

    Super gorgeous ring but somehow the casting takes something from the craftsmanship for me. Like a cheating step. I couldnt do it and super great job. I just prefer totally hand made.

    Very beautiful results! But it would be nice to see more of it in "real" time. That speeded up version is difficult to watch, and makes my head hurt trying to watch it. It's kind of like some people can't watch flashing lights without having a bad reaction to it. I didn't know it was going to be run in such quick time for most of it. Like I said, the results are gorgeous, to be sure, but you might offer a real time version as well.
    My grandfather was a jeweler, and I was always privileged to watch him work, but he's gone now. I miss those times, to be sure.

    I couldn't find this info easily, so I'll ask here:
    In the end, what do you really charge for the making of the ring as compared to the diamonds? And do you ever make non-diamond (other gems, natural/human-made) rings as well? Love the craftsmanship.

    • @VintageJewelersGiftsWindsor
      @VintageJewelersGiftsWindsor  7 років тому

      NegatioNZor My custom designs usually start at $1,500 for a ring in gold. Most of that cost is the labor to design, model, cast, polish and set stones. I do make and design pieces using pretty much all gems as well as occasionally doing some enameling. Thanks.

    Does using vacuum reduce porosity?

    • @VintageJewelersGiftsWindsor
      @VintageJewelersGiftsWindsor  8 років тому +1

      Incorrect sprueing is the most common cause of casting porosity. I get great castings with the vacuum assisted casting, with minimal porosity.

    pretty ring to bad the heart shaped diamond is glued in. you can see the glue at the top of the ears on the heart in the last few spins as it is laying on its' side. no wonder the editing was so fast.

    • @VintageJewelersGiftsWindsor
      @VintageJewelersGiftsWindsor  3 роки тому

      No stones we set are ever glued in place. The heart shaped diamond in this ring was bezel set correctly by hammering the white gold down around the stone, locking it in place.

    • @markrivers8276
      @markrivers8276 3 роки тому

      @@VintageJewelersGiftsWindsor Ok, whatever you say. can you explain the white substance at the ears of the diamond in your video? I am sure it is just lighting. I have been a fabricating goldsmith for 40 yrs. I am pretty sure of what I am looking at. but thanks for the reply.

    • @markrivers8276
      @markrivers8276 3 роки тому

      @@VintageJewelersGiftsWindsor ok thanks

    • @VintageJewelersGiftsWindsor
      @VintageJewelersGiftsWindsor  3 роки тому

      @@markrivers8276 It’s called bright cutting. Hammer the bezel down, so it’s flush against the stone, then cut the inside of the bezel with a flat mirror polished graver at a 45 degree angle. If you’ve been hand fabricating for 40 years you should know this.

    • @markrivers8276
      @markrivers8276 3 роки тому

      @@VintageJewelersGiftsWindsor I truly understand the process very well. I can make that ring from a ingot of gold, no casting. My question that you don't seem to want to answer is ....."what is the white stuff in the video?" Look, I am sure your are a good jeweler. I am sure you feel I am trying to discredit you. But I am not. I am retired and really don't care. You are still in the business trying to make money in a very difficult time. Let's put this aside and let me offer a suggestion. Whoever made the video may want to consider the methods of lighting and filming as to not call into question your craftsmanship.
      Thanks for the conversation, good luck, and continue to be proud of your work.
