I like snarky, witty, mean Yammie who puts a picture of a 'butt' every time he says it in the edit. Deep Yamm is my favorite
Numbers CAN lie and you facilitated that. If you are going to cite income v inflation for example - use current info. Apart from that, there is a lot to digest here. I suspect there are numerous nuanced reasons for the decrease in motorcycle riding but motorcycles sales have remain steady for the last 15 years. But numbers: Look at 2008 - yes, sales were down significantly from 2006-07, but they were still 300k + over what we are seeing now. It was 2009 when US sales nose-dived (world-wide financial market collapse) and they never recovered. The US is sitting at half the sales of 2006.
If it really is income induced, wouldn't a motorcycle be much easier to purchase/finance/insure/maintain/fuel than a car? Personally, I think its safety issues associated with the proliferation of distracted drivers on smart phones. I know quite a few cyclists who have set aside their road bikes for mountain bikes and trails because of distracted drivers.
We were smack dab in the middle of a pandemic in 2021, so that probably had an impact on moto sales.
Hey yammie I'm asking for help to fix my bike it's been down from since the year started I need it for work cas the undetectable and I keep reaching late for work now,pls asking if u can help me fix it or even better if u have an old or cheap bike around u don't use I really need one to get to work, hope u guys having a great day n thanks for your informative and entertaining videos been watching ever since I started riding a year now🙏
Now that I think about it, I was the youngest person I saw at the Lone Star motorcycle rally this past year. Everyone was in their late 50s.
Everything in this world peaked in the early 2000s. The internet has ruined everything ever since.
I fully agree. Housing bubble in 08-09 was the beginning of the end
I 100% believe 2016 was the exact year everything took a massive nose dive.

It's not dying, just becoming more of a hobby for people in their 30s and 40s. I wanted to ride my whole life, but couldn't afford one til I hit my 30s and got established in my career.
I feel that. Spent 19-27 paying off my car and finally got a bike at 28 but even then it felt like an irresponsible financial decision
Same, also had everyone telling me it was too dangerous. Finally decided to give them the finger and do what I've always wanted to. Before I die from microplastics or some dumb shit.
I’ve heard that the average rider age is 48, and give heard 50 years old. It’s a hobby for us Gen X-ers and Boomers, too. 👍🏻
Same here, wanted one from age 17, didn't get my first bike until 29. With licensing laws in the UK, you can't even ride a proper big bike until 24 anyway
your fault for not buying used
Motorcycling literally saved my life. I was one of those anxiety suffering teenagers, till i got my R3. It literally freed me from mental locks that i had made to myself.
Even if it bankrupts me, i wont stop motorcycling. Its a lifestyle, and i feel cripple without it. It gives freedom that nothing else can give, the adrenaline, dopamine, adventures.. motorcycling just makes you feel ALIVE in this degenerate world.
It’s not a lifestyle. It’s life.
I’m genuinely happy you found your mental and physical freedom.
I agree. To coin the phrase ride to live, live to ride is an accurate description of a die hard motorcyclist.
Getting back into riding saved my mental during the pandemic too. It was the perfect solo hobby and it got me outside every day. Empty roads too. It was perfect.

I will not pay for a car for what new motorcycles are priced at. The used market is pure gold with bikes with less than 10,000 miles, no brainer
If you rode bikes when you were younger or an avid rider of at least 250cc and you ride often. starting on a fkn good condition half price middleweight is perfect. So mnay bikes near me ridden for a short bit, then put on sale as owner wasnt ready for 800 or 900 or higher cc. Sells bike at half price AND with gear sometimes
Any suggestions on which sites to find used bikes? It seems like cycle trader is mostly dealers advertising their new inventory.

"Cultural ennui". I had to look that up.
Has more to do with housing alternatives due to the housing crisis... Although now it is flooded by the incredibly rich. Which is kind of funny and horrid as it's now harder to do due to the prices being that of a house now
The ruling class is quietly trying to convince younger generations that you don't need to own a home or property. Home ownership is the single most important way to build generational wealth. They want to own everything and create a rental class.
LOL I definitely don't care about all the "luxury vehicle," "dangerous," blah, blah, blah. I literally live on the back of my motorcycle. I ride it to college, I ride it to go grocery shopping, I ride it to work, I ride it FOR work, I ride it for fun, I ride it for pleasure, I ride it for challenge. I ride year round and enjoy every bit of it. I have ridden in 110°F+ weather, and I have ridden in -25°F weather. It's great! I don't agree with the squids. They need to just hop on one and give it a go. Around here, I am not alone. In a lot of other places, I am turning into a unicorn. 😂

@@autismion Motorcycles are... LE BAD!
Freedom is dying
The biggest reason I always hear for people not riding motorcycles is that they are unsafe. I really think thats the primary reason its waning in popularity.
That's because the people who drank that koolaid want to spread that fear, because they're jealous of the people who actually ride.
If a guy says that just tell em “I bet you can’t”. Gotta use the competitive nature of guys against him.
Properly maintained motorcycles are not unsafe in and of themselves. Riding them aggressively on public roads reduces their safety as does riding in cities and inner-ring suburbs because of the obliviousness of other motorists. Greater traffic density makes motorcycles a less safe mode of transportation, but the motorcycles themselves are seldom a cause for concern.
I agree, parents are beating this message into their kids head. It took me a long time to convince my dad to let me buy a motorcycle.
A addiction to a mobile phone is a lot more dangerous!
This is interesting, as in the Netherlands motorcycle riding is massively on the rise. Experts think it's partly due to riding being way cheaper here than driving a car. And I think that it helps how small our country is, and we are pretty much born on two wheels with how much we ride bicycles. Happy with this rise in popularity though
I pay the same price for two motorcycles as I would for one Peugeot 107.
Unfortunately, most of the US has very anti-motorcycle friendly laws. Combined with the financial situation we are in, people are not willing to spend money on what is basically a hobby for us.
Yeah, after the covid crap motorcycle sales skyrocketed here. I use the bike only as a hobby, purely because of the crap weather in The Netherlands
Yeah I think this is heavily focussed on the US, I don’t know for other countries but in the Netherlands it’s indeed rising extremely fast. Close to 50% more young people buying a bike compared to 10 years ago
Mate, the Netherlands has a great cycle culture. It's no real surprise they've discovered the joy of slapping a motor on them.
I only started riding in my 30s because this is the point where I could afford one.
Same. Now, motorcycles are a pivotal part of my life.
Yeah this video is right about the economy but the rest is boomer type nonsense. All he has to do is travel outside the US to see that motorcycles are far from dying
The only reason I'm not a biker is because I'm a poor 20 year old. As soon as i get some money I'm buying one

That's nice that you ride together now. However I want to ask do you literally mean "wife wouldn't let me"? No offense towards you intended. I just genuinely can't imagine thinking that way and I'm trying to understand you. Do you literally as an adult male ask your wife for permission to do things or is that a joke? I work for a major motorcycle parts company and we are not dying at all. We continue to grow at a pretty rapid rate every year.
Yeah these numbers seem like boomer type nonsense. The economy is changing but its not because one generation is wussier than the other

A few of my colleagues are ex-riders, and they all gave it up because their partners don't support them in it. They all wish they could get back into it, because they miss it. Bit of a shame, but I keep reminding them how fun it is, with the biggest genuine grin on my face. Maybe one day they'll get back into it 🤞
Yep, my wife is SO not into riding motorcycles. Basically, if I’m riding then I’m ignoring my family or household responsibilities. I’ve never ridden for longer than 2-hours.

Everyday I come across new reasons why m_rriage is a bad idea. Rarely have I come across any to convince me otherwise.
Motorcycling is scary sometimes, especially at first if you have no prior experience. I had to force myself to practice riding for a couple months after i got my license before I got comfortable going on a ride without thinking about it. Even then, I didn't go on the freeway for about 6 months. Go at your own pace and stay safe.
Respect for going at your own pace 👊
it's all about building those skills! super important when you don't have a big metal cage to protect you from every oopsie. totally worth the time investment though, with every mile i feel the progress, been a great journey so far - carry on man!
I am 33. I learned how to ride last year. Bought my first bike a month ago and now my older brother is hooked too. We are doing our part here in Sweden 😁
I might be old but my 19 year old just got a bike and my daughter’s gonna buy one😂
Found my best to keep the age average down!
Appreciate the effort 👍
My guy!
As someone in their mid-30's who took a 10 year break from motorcycles, there's a good reason why I just got back into it. I think motorcycles have shifted towards being more of a hobby, and it's a hobby that I missed. I got an early Miata to try and scratch that openness and small light vehicle itch, but even then there is just no substitute to being on a bike. Yeah, I got a Grom, but that's all I really needed for getting back on the saddle and riding around my local backroads. I took a long break because the last bike I got was stolen, and it was hard for me to justify buying a new one. I finally had enough spare cash to buy one so I stopped procrastinating and went out to the dealer and bought one. Getting new gear can get expensive, but once you got it you got it.
Come to south east asia where you use 2 wheeles for daily commute and you’ll come to love them
Been riding motorcycles since 92 . I remember the older guys in my neighborhood riding kawasaki ninjas and honda hurricane 600"s in 1986 as young teen, I went out and bought motorcycle magazines dreaming of the day when I could buy one. There is no replacement for the feeling you get riding a motorcycle, no tic tock or video games can compare.
Europe and Australia governments are beating down the freedom of motorcycle riding with many levels of regulations and taxes. The US is still a good free place to be a motorcycle rider, however some state taxes and insurance is way too high for motorcycle riders.
Tbh yammie noob this may be one of your best videos. I as a 20yr old with a CBR600 see my experience with motorcycling as a escape from this dumb world Gen z has grown up in. I finally get out and experience the world. Its awesome!
I enjoy riding all by my lonesome. I've been going riding in the evenings after work for a couple of hours. So relaxing...❤
As a Gen Z, days were better back when we used to play outside. I used to be the kid with no phone or no data and would have to try to communicate in person. Never talked to people because everyone else was on their phone and I was staring at the bugs flying around.
So tomorrow I'm going for what's the equivalent of a MSF course here in Saudi Arabia.
You're job here is done Yammie.
Sincerely, first time rider in his 40s
موفق خير! Good luck
I can speak on this subject. Most people think all motorcycles cost 20k because of commercials. That's what they pitch, and that's what cagers believe. They think there are only 2 types of bike. Either the crotch rocket where the only speed you can do is 200 mph. Or the big massive harley that requires you to join a gang. So, they don't get into it. Most of them aren't aware of how to get training, a license, or any thing else. So, they push the idea away.
I had no interest in motorcycles for the reason above. Neither crotch rockets nor Harleys appealed to me. One night I was at my cousin's house and he mentioned Triumphs. Sadly, I spent the first 4 years of the 90s going to high school in England and never heard of Triumph before. I saw the pics on his computer and was checking them out at the dealer the next day. Took the BRC and bought one within 2 months. Now I have 3 Triumph twins, and 2 BMWs.
:/

I've been wanting to get into morocycling for a long time now, but it's hard when so many people only have discouraging things to say "it's way too dangerous you're going to die" "It's not something I'd see you do" "it's too expensive" "it's not really something for women" I still want to get into it and learn to ride properly but with all the bad things people have to say and no one to really help it is definitely going to be a long journey...

I’ve always felt like sport bike insanity peaked around 04/05 with super light 170-180hp bikes without traction control that were relatively cheap. The first gen zx10r, K5 gsxr, R1 and first blade with the under-seat pipe were a kind of utopia in my mind

In india, Motorcycling has seen a significant rise in recent years. More and more people are buying bigger bikes and there are even more enthusiasts who dream to saddle a proper motorcycle other than those underpowered commutors.
Unfortunately this is also come with the rise of cars. A two-wheeler was the norm but now many are buying large cars which are dangerous for our small roads.

Incredible thought provoking video, really makes you think. I recently just started my Class A course (Above 500cc license) with no experience from riding anything before. My reason for starting it is because life is becoming so apathetic. Things i used to love doing like gaming and playing football does not interest me at all anymore. The problem here in the United Kingdom is the goverment have put too many barriers in place to get your licence. I think a big part of the drop off in sales is just the cost of everything nowadays. I know tons of people who want to buy a bike but they just can't afford to get even a used bike off marketplace
Normally I enjoy this channel as a form of escapism from the realities this video dives into. That said, it's spot on, like the one a few days ago about litre bikes.
I'm 34 and had bikes my whole life. As long as I'm able, I will always ride.
Honestly, the roads are more unsafe than ever, more young kids driving and texting, people constantly talking on the phone, scrolling for a song to play, people not using their blinker to communicate, more drunk drivers than ever before, etc.
It’s just not wise to ride these days. Don’t get me wrong i love my bike but i know the risk is higher now than ever before.
Wow, this was a way deeper dive into societal dynamics than I expected. Super insightful. Well done brother!
I'll be joining the team and picking up my first bike this weekend! I share the sentiment. It's been something I wanted to do for years and now I told myself ok, get to it and enjoy while we still can!
I never expected a shout out in a yammie noob video 😂 but i love ya yams and will never quit riding my cruiser ❤
I started riding back in June of 2023 after taking the MSF for the reason that gas is too expensive for my car. I ride daily a 2023 Honda CB500X and I average 70 MPG. I like how I sit up right, its not too powerful and has just power to pass when I need too. My wife and I were contemplating on getting a new car but they were just too expensive so I got the bike. My wife in August of 2023 took the MSF course and enjoyed it so much that she got a 2018 Triumph Bonneville Bobber with mini ape hangers bars. She rides twice a week for work, and averages about 70 miles on her trips. I already put 8500 miles on my CB and just replaced my tires. I believe that if gas continues to get outrageous more people will probably start riding. Disclaimer: We live in Tampa Bay area.
Im 71 and havent rode for 45 years. I bought a 450 Eliminator last year and having a blast
when i was a senior in high school, the van life fantasy penetrated my brain, I quickly let my dreams get crushed because i didn't have the money to convert or buy a van at the time.
Now a few years after high school, I realized I can just do car camping full time in my sedan, even though it's tiny, it's been done before and starting with what you already have is the best place to start.
52 y old, father of a 18 y old girl and 17 y old boy, we all ride together as a fun, responsible and safe family activity. Doing my part 🙏
Dad's 1993 blue harley davidson got me into motorcycles and and the busa got me hooked lol
A week ago, I had never given motorcycles a second thought. Your channel (and FortNine’s) have 100% shown me that this is what I’m missing in my life. Thank you!
Nah, man, screw that. I signed up to get an mc license a few weeks ago, classes start tomorrow, so psyched! Planning to get a MT07 pure as a starter, a local dealer has a package for it that includes gear. Been binging your videos for the past month or so, thanks for all the content and keep it up!
I am people, I've grown up on dirt bikes but never gave much consideration to road riding until I found your channel a year ago. I've now been riding for 6 months thanks to you yammie 🤘
You nailed it Yammie. Economics, practicality, and living like vampires. Literally and metaphorically speaking, sucking on the internet all night.
In the nineties a sport bike was not the best financial decision for myself and was a bit out of reach being single with an apartment and car payment. I saved and worked a lot of overtime to reach that golden two-wheeled goal. Paid cash for a new Yamaha FZR600. Had it 2 months and it was stolen in a matter of minutes at a grocery store parking lot. Insurance covered it, lesson learned and moved on to a CBR600, then F2, and so on. Someday, I'll either transfer or more likely retire to a southern state so I can ride all year.
At least I’m 23 years old and pretty eager to be a motorcyclist. I probably will convince my younger brother to ride once he gets 18 years old. I’m currently trying save money for my first bike, and keep this hobbit in rest of my life ❤
i have many hobbies i have done for 25+ years and motorcycles are by far the most addictive feeling ive ever experienced. how people could not want that is wild to me . i dont need to ride with anyone . I'll ride intil I'm physically in capable.
I’ve been trying to talk a friend into buying a bike this year. I bought my first bike earlier this year, a 2020 Indian Scout Bobber. I normally ride alone or follow friends while they are in their cars. The other day I got to ride with a friend and it almost felt magical. It was just another level of fun and we weren’t being reckless at all
In the 3rld world it is quite the opposite: people can’t afford cars so they get small engine motorcycles
i started riding in 2019 and started watching Yammie noob I think during the time I was learning how to ride in the early 2019s I like to ride my sports bike only for 2 months in a year mostly due to cold weather up here in Canada (Montreal )… thank Yammie noob for all the good tips ❤
The problem with Motorcycle costs isn't the cost of the motorcycle, it's the cost of EVERYTHING ELSE. Motorcycle insurance for a CBR650R is 3000$ a season for me. a minivan and a sedan combined is 800... Then add the cost of gear, storage, maintenance, needing a car anyway since it snows here and you've just spend a shit ton of money on a toy (a very fast, capable, adult oriented toy. But a toy nonetheless).
Just bought a 2023 CFMoto 300NK in cash today. I haven’t rode since I crashed in 2015. another driver ran me off the road by texting while driving and almost sent me off a cliff hospitalizing me for 2 days. I loved it when I did ride. I’m 33 now and wanna get back on the horse. I’m living in West Virginia now away from the California psycho drivers on open roads and traffic less highways. Deer are my only concern now. Insurance rates were surprisingly very cheap thru GEICO.
Lots of good points; I’ll add that when I was growing up, we rode bikes all day everywhere in the city, all the neighborhood kids knew each other and were regularly “playing outside” until the sun went down and everyday was an adventure to create. The culture of creating adventure for ourselves has been plummeting at an exponential rate and fantasies are nurtured in the comfort of a couch cushion in our living spaces. We literally went from a “Point Break” lifestyle to flipping through streaming channels of grown adults playing video games online all night in unwashed pajamas.
Damn. I’m gonna go change my oil and buy some surf wax to get that visual out of my head now.
I'm 29 and finally decided I want to learn how to ride. I have my rider course in May which is already booked up (and the two courses prior). I may be an outlier because I could have afforded a bike much sooner (as early as 23), but I always felt it was too unsafe, something I never wanted to do, etc. But all of a sudden my opinion on it flipped and it looks hella fun and like a skill that would be awesome to learn, and I'm excited for my rider course and to finally get my first bike.
I'm glad to be a new member of the 2wheel cycling xommunity. Great channel Yammie👏👏
I personally believe that regardless of the activity, riding a motorcycle included; if you don't enjoy doing something on your own, then it's not for you. The whole idea of love what you do, isn't necessarily about work, but what you do with your free time, that you enjoy. You can do a whole lot with friends, and there are times and places for that, and there's things to enjoy on your own. Your main hobby or hobbies should be something you enjoy with or without people. That way no matter what's going on in your life or who's around you, you have the ability to bring yourself some joy and peace.
I just got my first bike last week, an SV650 and I love it! I'm not really into joining bikers clubs or gangs or anything, nor am I trying to go really fast, I just want to experience the joy of riding being exposed to the elements even when doing mundane things like going to work.
As an adhd riddled gen z/ millennial pinning my new fz6r wide open is definitely better then media. My screen time is so much lower since I started biking.
Motorcycles need more storage to continue to be adopted period. This is because it's no longer being seen as a second optional mode of transportation, but a car replacement. It is not easy to replace your car with so few motorcycles being up to the task.
I own 2 motorcycles, 2 ebikes, and a moped. Ordered from most storage to least is both ebikes, then one motorcycle, then the moped, and finally the second motorcycle.
Additionally, plot twist, the first motorcycle is a Honda nc700x with side saddles and a trunk for a total of 4 storage compartments. This makes it very close to the top of the charts for storage capacity yet it pales in comparison to the absolute insane storage I have on my ebikes.
The second motorcycle is a vespa 300 gtv which is basically an oversized moped with lots of storage as well. Even my Vespa with the least storage still has laughably more storage than almost all other motorcycles. How will you go to the store? How will you pick up a friend with nowhere to store the extra helmet? How will you go to work every day without anywhere to store the things for work (i.e. typical work supplies + change of clothes)?
I think finally the process of getting the endorsement is absolutely insane and poses a huge barrier to entry for new riders - my wife failed out of MSF because we didn't understand that it was basically meant for people who were already ready to get their permit and not those who have absolutely zero experience. This experience just about crushed her spirit entirely, but thankfully I was able to ease her back into it by buying the moped for her to start out on.
Sorry for the long post, but I feel it's really important for the future of motorcycling that people be aware of these problems because they are all easily fixable.
picked up motorcycling in '18. Went from a Honda Shadow to a Low Rider S and now I'm on a CB1000r & goddamn I love the CB,
Wow, I'm really impressed by the quality and in depth analysis not only of motorcycles, but of greater societal trends like "gentrified homelessness" on this channel! Awesome job. Seems like you really have something of value to share, so thank you for that!!
The other thing that I think puts especially people over 25 off from taking up riding is the whole idea of a "beginner motorcycle". It is really off putting to a lot of people. Imagine if they had the same idea with cars. You are 30 years old. and grew up in Manhattan and never learned how to drive. So, you get married and have a couple of kids and move to the suburbs. You need a car and want an SUV to haul the kids around. Then someone says, "no son, you need a 'beginner car', go buy a Mini or a Civic and drive that for a year and then move up to that big SUV." Go buy a crappy car that you don't want because you are a "beginner". I think a lot of people just don't take it up. They don't want to spend the money buying a bike they don't want and then will have to sell to buy a bike they do want. I don't think people who are enthusiasts and started when they were teenagers and happy to ride anything understand how off-putting that is to people who consider taking up riding as adults.
The worst part is that most of the whole "buy a beginner bike" stuff is complete nonsense. It was valid 40 years ago when bikes had powerful engines but terrible brakes, suspensions, and frames, but not today. Today outside of liter bikes, which are difficult to ride because of the riding position as much as the power, there really are not any true widow maker bikes that require a ton of skill to ride. In the day and age of traction control, abs, great suspension, vastly improved frames, all but the most powerful or heaviest bikes are very easy to ride and can be ridden safely by anyone who exercises good judgement. People can pretty much start on whatever bike they like but are told they can't because of outdated ideas and just a general tendency among any established group of enthusiasts to feel superior to those starting out. Telling someone they are not up to riding what you ride is a great ego boost for some people.
I think some of that is down to what the outside perception of a "beginner bike" actually is, which isn't helped by people on the inside saying silly things like those bikes are "slow". A "beginner car" is (at least here...) a 1 litre or sub 1 litre car that makes almost no power and isn't really any fun to drive. In a word, it is slow. Now let's take a beginner bike from 30 years ago, the crappiest we can find...Introducing Kawasaki ER500. Nobody likes this bike, everyone say's it's slow, and it is.....comparatively. But instead of comparing it to an R1, let's compare it to a car instead, this "dog slow" motorcycle does the 1/4 mile in the exact same time as a Lancer Evolution of the same year. But nobody says, "Oh you should get a beginner car, you need a Lancer Evolution!" 😆
I recently got into a motorcycle crash where I lady decided to do a U-Turn infront of me and I slammed into her and flew over her car and slammed on the pavement and broke my collarbone and lower rib. It's been 2 months and I still get PTSD from the crash and I'm not sure if I wanna go back to riding. I have the itch to ride again (not now I'm still recovering) but every time I think about it my heart sinks. HELP
i believe in you, take it slow, get back on that pony
I’ve been blessed financially enough to have 3 in the driveway and 2 project bikes in the garage. I have Hondas to Harley’s and inbetween. I enjoy welcoming any and all new riders to the culture. (I’m 24).
It's videos like this why I love ya stuff keep yammering it up!
I bought my first motorcycle at the age of 35, and it's brought me so much joy ever since. Interestingly, none of the younger people I work with seem interested in owning one themselves. In fact, they often find it odd that I have such a passion for motorcycles.
