      If you are talking about speed limits then yes, cars have been too fast for public roads for quite some time now. The enjoyment of the car however doesn't have to be tied to top speed, but rather working the car within the speed limit but pushing it to it's maximum or near so while doing so. If that means staying in 1st and 2nd gear most of the time, so be it.

    The GT3 RS Weissach Pack has the exact chassis components (albeit different tuning) as the GT2 RS Weissach Pack. The GT2 RS is not more “Motorsport” than the GT3 RS. In fact, the rear wing of the GT3 RS sits higher and generates more down force than the GT2 RS. The GT3 RS actually generates slightly higher cornering speeds than the GT2 RS - Andreas Preuninger’s words not mine.

    First view of this channel and a new subscription it is!
    You said exactly what I’ve been saying for some years now, but I’d paint it out with a broader brush: new sports cars are too good to be enjoyed properly on public roads. Not just the GT2RS. Let’s widen that to all post 996, maybe 997.1 are just so damned capable and packed with electronic trickery (read PDK) that they don’t give you the enjoyment you’re looking for without sending you behind bars, if enjoyed on public roads. Currently I’m on my 7th and 8th Porsche 911, and I must say no 1 (964C4) and 5 (964C2cab) were the best ones so far as to driver enjoyment comes, due to manual gears and no turbo engine.
    Of the newer stuff I think the manual Carrera T with it’s NA-like engine, stripped cabin, sort of little electronics and reduced sound deadening is more to the point of enjoyment rather than a GT3RS or GT2RS. AND you can seat the whole family on your fun drives. The best 911 so far is the manual, 4 seated, Carrera T.

  • @stefanjust1912
    @stefanjust1912 5 років тому

    Very well said when you speak of the very few bursts of enjoyment when on public roads. This and your video around GT3 with stick or PDK resonate a lot with what I find in my driving experience. It’s about extending the enjoyable moments, and not permanently waiting for the next short moment to leverage the potential a car has. In that respect, GT4 and (the new) Spyder seem to adress this topic well...

  • @F1ll1nTh3Blanks
    @F1ll1nTh3Blanks 5 років тому +17

    Recently I have become obsessed with the Lotus Evora.
    Small, light, stripped down little sports manual. Perfectly usable power, perfect packaging and great handling.
    Big cars with all the tech are great but do you absolutely need it for the focused drive.. 🤔
    I have kinda become bored of numbers now. 300-500 is great. I am yet to sit in a 700hp supercar but it's a similar thing with bikes. The smaller bikes are just such great fun and you can really use them without worrying so much about killing yourself. There's plenty enough thrill and the occasional spook to keep you on your toes.
    I have really grown to love machines with more usable more focused and engaging characteristics.
    What's happening to me. 😂
    Regardless. Loving the selection of cars here. I am sure they will be an absolute blast on the track.

    Right now I can't imagine ever needing more than my stock 300hp EVO X on the road. Supercars on the road are like superbikes on the road. What are you going to do with a 200+ hp bike on the road that you can't do with a 100hp bike? I really think superbikes and supercars are all about showing off and if that floats your boat, go for it.

    I'm super curious how this would compare to the 997 GT2 RS with the manual. Still wont have the sound, but it's not quite as ape shit fast to be unusable it would seem.

    So what you’re saying is the smile gland bandwidth ratio is too high in the GT2 RS?
    Sounds legit. 😂👊🏻👌🏻

    Mr JWW basically explaining all the selling points of having a GT3 manual over a GT2 RS. Still a incredible car but in these days of overly engineered road cars the GT3 with its screaming NA 6 more engaging manual transmission and slightly less actual usable performance gets my vote all day. Plus the 100k savings and it’s a bargain! Can someone loan me $200k please?

    Thanks Bro!

    I wonder what you consider to be the right balance of power vs usability? It can really only be around 300bhp maximum, depending on weight, gearing etc in my opinion

      I think up to 450-500 hp is the upper limit. For example a 911 turbo is just a tad over that limit. And it is a fun car, but it's an actual rocket on the street....

    Have you covered the Alpine a110 by any chance? It's plenty fast and you can still actually use it to it's fullest potential on the road

    Although it is difficult (if not almost impossible) to enjoy the monumental power that these cars possess, on tight and twisty welsh roads, it is the handling and chassis dynamics that can still be enjoyed at the national speed limit.

    So as an owner of a GT2RS and GT3RS I am not biased when it comes to my opinion on this. I think the GT2 RS sound is good, not great but it's not bad, you need to be driving in the 4k-7k RPM's for the good sound. It's a deep bass rumbling sound where as the GT3RS is a high pitch screaming sound. I still feel like the GT2RS is more fun because the torque and power is addicting and after driving it the GT3RS seems slow. Both great cars though!

  • @Vangent87
    @Vangent87 5 років тому

    100% agree, the GT2 RS is one of the best ever made but on public roads it’s got too much power and not enough noise and in order to grin from ear to ear you have to be absolutely flat chat which you just can’t do safely on public tarmac. Where as a 430 Scuderia is still a good handling car and an amazing sounding car you could drive that on the same public roads and flex your smile glands the entire time you may not be going that fast but you sound like you are and your Revving it out and changing gears and you’re more engaged and experiencing more of what the cars capable of doing.

    Though for a while gt3 is sweet spot for 911. Can go bright 'supercar' spec or more subtle 'gt' spec and it seems to excel at both.

    I agree, it’s a supercar that is just too raw for enjoyable driving! Yes overtaking/passing other vehicles in bursts can be quite fun w that power.....but that’s not why Porsche built it!

    I have to agree with you and thought the same for some time. Super cars, or dream cars, are just getting faster and faster and their potential cannot be used on the public roads. Lots of you tuber channels have said this and also that in the wet they are potentially lethal. Once you reach the national speed limit in under 4 seconds, then what do you do. I know they are desirable to own and there will always be a market for them but they are almost becoming works of art. Pleasurable to own and wonderful to look at. The latest Lotus is boasting 2000 horse power. Track use only I think.
