I was privileged to spend an evening with Dame Edna during her Final Farewell Tour at the Los Angeles Ahmanson Theatre in 2015. It was blissful evening with the brilliant and magnificent treasure, Barry Humphries and his beyond-delightful persona, Dame Edna... truly a night I have and will never forget. He was an absolute one of a kind and a gift to us all. RIP, you funny man.
I was there at the Ahmanson Theater for her Farewell tour. I love Dame Edna Everage. I saw her several times through the years and Dame Edna will really be missed. Barry Humphries was a genius.
Stopped watching BH but now he's gone I renew my interest and see again his fantastic fun and skill. Genius yes but intelligence is the stand out quality - and rebellion. Good Man. RIP.
Barry Humphries is of course an intellectual Giant, who is incredibly insightful and intelligent. But not only that, he looks at people in a compassionate, as well as a critical way. More than anything, he can cut down overinflated egos with humour, and that makes him so special. I think Barry Humphries is first and foremost, a very kind person, and I love him.
" I think Barry Humphries is first and foremost, a very kind person," what a perceptive ,insightful comment .you really nailed him . just on that about being compassionate and looking after his guests and playing with them .this interview with nana Mouskouri in 87.ua-cam.com/video/bBGdaaiJFdU/v-deo.html ,shows how he contributed to nana being able to have a wonderful relaxed play around .you see nana's inner child come out . it was great .
Hear, hear! Well said. Rest in peace Barry Humphries! And thank you. Dame Edna Quote - (read in in Edna's caring voice): "Death is just a door. And behind that door is either nothingness or eternal happiness. Or a really angry cat. It's hard to say for sure."
👏... Well said OP/Christas'.. Bless the genius who also always showed empathy & if critical it came from the heart ❤. Utterly unique Human being & hope up there smiling down the legend.
Me too ! In 2023. His sharp wit was side-splitting. He used to do gentle, naughty pranks on buses and trains before he became famous. I'd loved to have seen that. I adore him. 🤣💘💥
40 years old and I'm still young enough to only appreciate him JUST now. I never revised my view of Barry from a youth in the 80's and 90's. No wonder the hype, I mean... wow. I get it now.
He is the most amazing performer Australia has ever produced. His talent transcends boundaries. I get a little teary watching him perform in between the laughs. I know I am being informed - that's what Mr. Humphries does.
As an oldie and huge fan, I remember all these characters. I’m so sad he’s gone but he’s left us with present laughter. Catharsis is right. We DID leave those live shows feeling like new refreshed people. This was a splendid programme. Thank you!
I remember the first time I saw Edna on British TV, and I had no idea who she was. We were laughing hysterically, and so we're the people she was insulting. It was clear that they enjoyed her attention. What a brilliant character.
I would say Dame Edna is in the Top Ten funniest comedians / comic characters ever. Incredible performance, over decades, with razor sharp wit of the sharpest order...RIP xxx
I laugh & laugh & laugh as much the 30th time I watch him as I did the first time. Clever, sharp, quick witted comedy that covers everything faced by people in societies throughout history. It will never age because the same situations will always exist in the future. I believe his body of work should be restored digitally so the generations ahead can see how a true comic genius magnificently applied his art. Brilliant stuff, thanks for posting :-0
This is excellent. I saw Dame Edna at the Rooty Hill RSL a few years ago. She was bang up to date with all the latest nonsense and skewered all of it. In the most appropriate venue.
This great artist once again left me with "pain in my stomach with laughter" what a wonderful awakening of Dadaism man has been subjected to by geniuses like him. Thank you Berry Humpfries, I miss you so much. Rest in peace, and i see you later.❤❤❤
Listening to what Barry had to say about alcohol and AA in a fantastic interview with David Walliams and Matt Lucas really helped me realize I was fucking up very badly. It took some time but I'm now sober 18 months and for that I'm eternally grateful to Barry for steering me in the right direction. If anyone reading this is having problems with alcohol or addiction and you really want to stop, there is help out there, you've just got to go. Don't be afraid and go to an AA or NA meeting, they are not cults no matter what your addiction is telling you. They are the start of the journey to beat your disease. Everyone there has been through what you have been through and a whole lot more, you'll be very surprised at the people you meet, their stories and how they are now in recovery and if you want to stop going, you will never be harassed, the door will always be open for your return.
As a personal note, a mate and I many years ago went to a London theatre to see her and dreaded that she would pick on us in the third row. Fortunately, she chose a woman in the audience and asked her to describe her bathroom. Well, it was a sublime performance by Edna, only matched - indeed, was quite surpassing - when we went to see her a few years on. I have to say that I laughed so hard I felt on the edge of wanting to throw up. Pure genius. RobertK.
I was taken by ex partner to see Edna /Les et al in Aberdeen Scotland some 30 yrs ago I almost had a trouser accident when Les Patterson was on stage Unbelievably funny Barry was a complicated but amazing human.... never will be forgotten 😅😅😅😅😅
Barry actually comes from the affluent suburb of Camberwell, and was the son of an architect. He love the name Moonee Ponds (an actual suburb) and ran with it
Stratford, "A half-timbered car"...... That line has stuck in some rusty old filing cabinet deep in my lizard-brain..... I may have been nine or ten, but that beautifully comic observation has lain there for decades...... Thank you Barry x.
G ELGAR, snap!! I was about 12 or 13 when I saw that, and thought that line was the funniest thing I'd ever heard, especially as that was our family car at the time. And I still found it hilarious hearing it again on this video, so many years later, but not forgotten.
Unlike other comic genius’s like Peter Cook and Spike Milligan who had their ups and downs, Barry Humphries was consistently the consummate performer throughout.
Awe, this legend was utterly unique showing humour in a range of styles that always came from the heart even giving self-worth to many after ridiculing them. Used to turn the negatives to positives in such a humours way & an amazing character throughout. Felt privileged witnessing the legend @ play + a tear came to the eye during old episode = 'an audience with Dame Edna Everage' recently. GREAT stuff & whattah singer too eh... Awe, bless Barry..😢❤
Everything Edna has done is just wonderful, but Sir Les is my hero. One of the times I saw him on British tv he said he had really invented the Australian film industry {that was very big at that time} but never been given the credit for it, he said he had suggested a movie called "Piss up at hanging rock" I fell of the sofa laughing Bless you Barry
R.I.P BARRY! FUTURE GENERATIONS WILL ALWAYS CREDIT YOU AND THE MANY WORKS YOU HAVE ACHIEVED IN YOUR LIFE. TOO ME, YOU’LL ALWAYS BE THE KING OF COMEDY. 🥹
Sir Barry Humphries is a man , who is a part of the punk wave evolution, the world can not be without him. Its not only about pulling faces, in an intelectual twisted way, this is a revolution in comedy history.
Without doubt one of the funniest comedy act ever, he never needs to use bad language during his act, innuendo is his weapon and it's fantastic, sadly I doubt we will see any more of Les Patterson as an act with all the spitting and saliva during this pandemic wouldn't be seen as funny although he could wear a visor and give us a laught
"I'm a hard act to follow" says it all about Barry Humphries. I've loved him forever, and I'm going to see him- Dame Edna- April 10th in Toronto as part of his Farewell Tour.
My French wife and I were married in a restaurant in Moonee Ponds (Melbourne suburb) - something I have paraded for forty years now to people who still think it is an imaginary place.

World is much sadder without Barry's genius comedy & observations. Funny, intelligent, humble. RIP 😔💐

So true
He is the most amazing performer Australia has ever produced. His talent transcends boundaries. I get a little teary watching him perform in between the laughs. I know I am being informed - that's what Mr. Humphries does.
Australia unintentionally does produce diamonds
Ditto! No one has ever shined so bloody brightly! ⭐️

Barry's amazing ability to ad lib. He is never at a loss for words, whatever anyone says to Edna, he replies so naturally. Every line is a gem.
RIP, Barry! Thanks for all the laughs! ❤
Hands down the greatest Australian entertainer. Brilliant wit.
Such a loss of a wonderfully talented man ! Another Icon gone.

I LOVE how Barry was so Beautifully Quietly spoken in real life. So lovely 2 listen to him.
All his characters are amazingly genius.

~Miss you already Barry....enjoy all your work.
A master. A legend. A gift to our world. He truly is amazing. ❤
Barry Humphries is pure genius. For me Dame Edna was the funniest and best comedy ever
A Renaissance man - one of the few true geniusses of our days.
What an amazing man. Thanks for putting this up.
There were only two people on Earth that could make me laugh. Robin is gone, but we still have Dame Edna. ♥️
Yeah, I love Dame Edna! And who's Robin, another great Australian comic?
He said, rightly, Spike’s humour was sublime - and so was Barry’s. Majestic too. And happily he’s still with us.
I was taken by ex partner to see Edna /Les et al in Aberdeen Scotland some 30 yrs ago
I almost had a trouser accident when Les Patterson was on stage
Unbelievably funny
Barry was a complicated but amazing human.... never will be forgotten 😅😅😅😅😅
The believability of Dame Edna surpasses any thoughts other than this person really is Dame Edna which makes her so outrageously funny.
Absolutely brilliant. The man is an undeniable genius. Thanks for putting that up
What a fantastic show of appreciation for the many years Dame Edna gave us of entertainment, her picture on a stamp. How amazing would that be. 👍👏
Just abosutely brilliant. The genius of Moonee Ponds.
It's a Morris Traveller and yes it is timbered
That’s such a coincidence, because that line has stuck in my mind over the decades too.
G ELGAR, snap!! I was about 12 or 13 when I saw that, and thought that line was the funniest thing I'd ever heard, especially as that was our family car at the time. And I still found it hilarious hearing it again on this video, so many years later, but not forgotten.

Dame Edna should be on our Aussie currency; e.g. $50 note. A true icon.
But is a $50 note worthy of her?
@@paulstewart1182 We should have a $500 note and put Edna on that!
Agree what a dynamite bloke
Even the comic genius Peter Cook was in awe of Barry.
No ever has been more talented & funnier!
Absolutely terrific

Barry Humfries along with Peter Cook must be the greatest satirist of this century

Note in this programme Edna talks like SStone, amazing character.
His gift to us is his ability to make us forget our troubles for a while.

Only 2 others who can ad lib like him, but both now dead: Peter Cook and Robin Williams. Kevin Bridges is the funniest stand up today.
Barry's on record calling Chris Lilley the g word.
