Nature is an awe-inspiring force, capable of devastating destruction. From powerful volcanoes spewing molten lava to massive tsunamis that swallow entire coastlines, the raw power of Mother Nature is something to behold. Even the most destructive storms, like hurricanes, can wreak havoc on everything in their path. But amidst all these incredible displays, there's one force that trumps them all: earthquakes. In just a matter of seconds, the ground beneath our feet can shake and sway with a ferocity that leaves even the mightiest disasters in the dust.
So why were these Earthquakes so deadly, and are there more big earthquakes coming? Could the next big one hit where you live?

40,000 and 340,000 numbers are in the milllions
you have too many zero's in your graphic
Lmfao they do as well
I thought I was seeing things 😂
Facts
Was just about to mention this lmao, guy said 40,000 and put 4,000,000 lmao
Lol so they started spelling it 😂
They have too many zeros in a couple numbers within the first two minutes. 40k and 345k
Two
Destiny isn’t renowned for their accuracy… on anything.
Looks like the number of dead from the earthquake including Syria is around 57,000
Lol yeah not even in the ballpark. Talking about a magnitude 15 earthquake when the statistics shown has an 100x error. Not even within a magnitude of 10, lol derrrp
😂I was gonna timestamp the first one 1:36 before even getting to the second
Narrator: 40 thousand
Infographic guy: 4 million
💀
Who was adding extra zeros in the vid 😂
just watching after 3 small earthquakes hit the bay area yesterday!
Just watching after living in turkey for 38 years.
I watched a cat chase a mouse for 3 hours now I'm watching this video
Building entire large cities on an active fault line. What could possibly go wrong?
I live in Christchurch, NZ. We had a 6 mag earthquake in Sept 2010, another aftershock, similar magnatude in 2011. 181 people died, and we were saved by general understanding of earthquakes, which had resulted in adequate strengthing codes. However, we also live in the middle of the Alpine Fault, which runs up against the major tectonic plates of the Australian and Pacific plates. The later is subtuctive to the former. The MAJOR concern is the quake on the Alpine Fault, which runs right through NZ. Some say it is a mag 10 when it hits, and if you look at NZ, that means a lot of destruction .
What was the biggest earthquake did you experience im glad u were ok
I also lived in Christchurch between 2009 & 2011 and went through both of the quakes. In the Feb quake I was right on Colombo St, under the overpass of the bus exchange, was horrendous. Had to end up coming back to England after that. Hope it’s all good there now. I went back to visit after 1 year for the anniversary in Hagley Park and it was unrecognisable from what I remembered around CBD.
most of the people who say mag ten are either fearmongering, stretching the truth or just talking about a worst case scenario. when it goes it's not likely to be worst case scenario (tho its still gonna be bad obviously). also there's different likelihoods for each region of the fault in terms of how bad the eqs likely to be, what damage will be caused and the actual likelihood of a severe earthquake happening in that region. southland, for example, may get tsunami waves, but a fault rupture there is less likely than around the center of the SI. basically just be prepared and we'll see what happens. with any luck we'll have a repeat of the September 4 situation and not a repeat of the February 22 situation
After watching such videos, I am more and more glad that I live far from those seismically dangerous regions. In my area, this practically does not happen, but you will not envy the guys living near the ring of fire. If I were them, I'd move from there just in case. It would seem that our planet is very comfortable for life, but from time to time it can seem formidable and these quirks should not be ignored.🤔
I lived through a 6.3 mag earthquake, and that was incredibly scary.
I can't even imagine how terrible a 7.8 would be.
My heart goes to the people in Turkey and Syria...
We had a huge 7.7 (downgraded from 7.9) earthquake in September 2022 in Michoacan, one state away from where I live. It caused 50,000 US dollars damage at my house. We have a cottage very close to where the quake happened, it was totally destroyed. Things are happening worldwide, and the catastrophic 10.5 that will strike Los Angeles California is just the beginning.
I would be thoroughly impressed if Houston had a major earthquake tbh
When maps get update, I'm curious to see the new chasms crossing Turkey
We live with a mother nature monster that could lash out anytime soon.🌏🌏🌏🌎🌎🌎🌎🌍🌍
yes the scale is open ended, but remember.. it's logarithmic... a 15 is something on the level of a planet on planet collision.
or a black hole interrupting the gravity that keeps our planet together.
our planet quite simply cannot produce enough energy to do this alone through tectonics.
1 is 10x powerful than 0
2 is 10x powerful than 1
etc
Yea so theoretically, we would never even see an 11 or 12
@@danevertt3210 11 is theoretically possible. given some extreme circumstances. but yes even a 10 is extremely unlikely.
@@seanprice7645 can you imagine an 11? Holy jeez
Lived in California most of my life. The last, sizeable quake I experienced was the one on Independence Day 2019 which was felt in Mexico despite originating somewhere around Trona, hundreds of miles away. I tend to doubt I'll experience something like that again anytime soon since the east coast is a lot less seismically active
Hey how about the BIG ONE that can happen anytime in the Philippines?
You said more than 40,000 people dead in Turkey, but the graphic says 4 million. Y'all should check your work before submitting lol
1 person would be too many 😑
Happy zeros
@@pagpapaitim Yes!!!!!!
I'd love to see a video about if there is a place on Earth that is not threatened by earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, floods or anything.
I was in Jr high English when the 6.8 Nisqually Earthquake hit the Seattle area. It was a scary ride being on the second floor of that brick building.
Lol could barely feel in in auburn.
Makes me realize how lucky we are in the UK to be geologically stable and not near a plate boundary, also I'm on the Pennine hills so no flooding here. Also I don't believe turkey is anywhere near the Pacific, so what about covering the rest of the world that isn't America
I live on the east coast of the United States, which is also a geological stable
@@AC-kb3uk True, You just have the occasional Hurricane to deal with and the lake effect snow storms that can shut the entire city down, so as we say over here its , swings and roundabouts, (playground options) our weather os unpredictable but rarely extreme, I'll take averagely ok over regularly stops everything , thanks
Earthquakes happen every second, I watch earthquakes live through Raspberry Shake via Station View and none of it really surprises me. For some reason that Turkey Anatolian plate has a huge number of active spots 🤔😎
Hey !! Your thumbnail's are cool !!
1:36 and 1:43 someone over at Destiny really loves exaggerating those zero's lol
Fascinating video! The concept of the Earth's crust acting like a jigsaw puzzle, with tectonic plates constantly moving, really puts the power of earthquakes into perspective. Stay vigilant and informed! 🌍💡
I’ve never been less stoked to live in the pnw
Don't forget about the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs and caused a magnitude 13.0 earthquake.
Great Work , Subbed straight away & hit the bell. Thank you for this, Amazing work - these are vital - Educating everyone me been one of them
Just sending our prayer for y'all ❤
Thank you.
1:36
says "40,000"
shows 4 MILLION !
1:44
SAYS: "34 THOUSAND apartments"
shows 34 MILLION 500 THOUSAND !
I've always been fascinated with space and meteorology and even chased a tornado once and want to sit out a hurricane sometime. With that being said, a strong earthquake is something I NEVER want to experience. Luckily in Toronto, Canada we rarely get earthquakes and when we do they're 4.0 - 5.0 max. Always wanted to visit Japan also but they get insanely strong earthquakes. I've always said if I'm there and one happens, I'm looking at the elders and if they're calm, I'm calm. If they look panicked or scared like in 2011, I'd consider myself dead by the earthquake itself or a massive panic attack lol.
Even the aftershocks were equally powerful so they were regarded as individual earthquakes. So there were around 4 or 5 earthquakes, with two aftershocks being above 6.5.
A magnitude 15 earthquake would rip our planet to pieces in seconds as the force could reach to the core! 😮
We had 7.1 magnitude earthquake in 1989 California the Loma Prieta earthquake. It was the biggest quake I’ve ever experienced.
The Boxing day quake of Indonesia actually slowed the earth rotation. A 15 magnitude would shatter the crust and erupt the volcanoes everywhere.
the Pacific coasts of Columbia and Ecuador recently experienced destructive EQ's right about the day this was posted. Denver is halfway between the New Madrid and the San Andreas faults. the New Madrid hasn't popped in more than 200 years, it's due along with the others along the Juan deFuca plate subducting under the Laurentide plate
Up next , what if a 16 magnitude happened.
The tectonic plates can likely shift in a 11. or 12 since it's a
so great moving the molten rocks sliding around ..
Imagine the size of the Quakes caused by the Vredefort Impact, Makes the KT impact look like a fart in the bathtub.
40,000000000000 aka 40 thousand. Good video, all 11,0000000 minutes
Am I the only one who did not the answer "what if a magnitude 15 earthquake happend"? There was a lot of info in the video, but I do not recall anything about the topic.
As a California resident and someone who has experienced hundreds of earthquakes, myself. I can honestly say, earthquakes are cute, and I have more important things to worry about.
I'm guessing you were raised in California. You're used to it. I have a pretty big fear of earthquakes. The thought of the ground violently moving without warning is beyond disturbing to the point I don't understand how y'all are comfortable with it but more power to you!
"Kim, there's people that are dying"- Kourtney kardashian
I love Destiny but, you might want to check the editing numbers! You said that fatalities were more than 40,000. The graphic stated 4 million! The number of apartments destroyed stated to be 345,000. but the graphic said 34million 500 thousand!
You got all your numbers mixed up vs what is on screen lol
When you showed the Chicxulub tsunami, you showed a demonstration of the Indian ocean tsunami.
Inflating the figures 😂
Me born at 2010 and living near the tohoku sea was nice but 2011 was devastating and dangerous the earthquake of 9.1 and the tsunami hit the shore From tohoku thousands of people died and suffered while I just sat there in the tsunami zone
no wonder Quake was known as the destroyer of worlds
Lord have mercy on us 🙏🙏🙏
From the Middling Kingdon?
LOL at 1:37 forty thousand = 4,000,000
6:10 - "Flow velocities over 1 METER per second". I think you meant 1 KILOMETER per second.
That's an interesting 40,000 number. A few extra zeros
uhhhh ok those numbers on screen were much higher than what you stated, that first number shown was 4,000,000 not 40,000 so unless I'm missing something that someone can point out to me
Never had a earthquake here in Ireland 🇮🇪, suppose because we are not on a fault line, wonder if there is any possibility we could be effected by any earthquake 🤔??
Yep. Ireland could be hit by an earthquake caused tsunami. God forbid!
I remember an Earthquake back in 2005 due to a collapsing mineshaft miles away in Yorkshire and like 60% of the country felt it.
@@nekotranslates yes probably they did tremors, in Yorkshire and parts of England as a result of mine shaft collapse i unfortunately don't know the history of that particular incident but it would be different from seismic tectonic plate movement, I was referring to the possibility of Ireland or even England ever being effected by tectonic plate movement as we don't sit on a fault line and questioning if there is any possibility
yes when it is very strong and long one like 2000s tsunami its quake lasted for 10 minutes, and tsunami caused by it damage affected areas from Indonesia to Somalia
Staying in a Zone 5 earthquake zone and watching this is not a good idea at all. 😩
Vocal edit error at the end to compliment the incorrect numbers at the start. Must have been the proof readers/viewers day off.
I learned a lot today!
For example, that 40,000 has 6 zeros and according to this, I’ve been a Millionen all along without even knowing
Still Burning Today Since 1970s Darvaza Gas Crater in Turkmenistan's Karakorum Desert
I would go into the basement and tell Cthulhu to knock that shit off and go back to sleep...
34.5 Million apartments? It's obvious you don't proofread before rendering...
Love the mathematics on the video... Only in the millions instead of hundreds of thousands 😂
8:52 you say they are unpredictable even tho earlier you said a geologist predicted the earthquakes 2 days before they happened?
Are we not going to talk about the black hole that’s 657 millon light years away that’s pointed at us
That's a long way away, fella.
No i think it's the BORG !
We must remember the type of construction standards in the middle east. Compared to highly upgraded earthquake standards of
California and Japan. "Thanks for watching. Th" editing problem. lol.
1:37
Few too many zeros there. That’s 4 million and the next one a few seconds later is 34.5 million.
Let's go.
There is a finite amount of energy the earth can release.
Nooo way that can happen here in the US,Biggest would be 8 or 9 in the Cascadia subduction zone off the Northwest Coast!!!!!
the earth grows, it gets bigger. pangea, small earth.... not that some areas won't sink but more areas are growing.
You think that city looks catastrophic? You should see my cat.
An earthquake of magnitude 15 is what the death star caused on Alderaan
As I understand things, the Earth isn't big enough for a 15 earthquake!
I live in the Philippines, no earthquakes here
Lol turkey was nuclear testing underground
You say 40 thousand fatalities but the number you show is 4 million
David Attenborough is losing his touch
Not exactly sticklers for numbers, are we?
Can you talk about the new Black Hole that was recently discovered
It’s just another major disaster waiting to happen, so be ready.
I hope it does
You said 40,000 but the video said 400,000
Anything bigger than a 5.0 will cause damage
Has this ever happened in americas?
More than forty thousand (4000000)
destroying three hundred forty five thousand (34500000) houses.
Someone needs to learn how numbers work.
Ive been in 2 7.8 earthquakes. Each one bring 20 thousand aftershocks.....each. upto 5.5. And a 6.3 that killed 189 people also with about 10 thousamd aftershocks. So ive seen my share of earthquakes. I do live in a place the nickname is the shakey isles. Typically gets more than 15 thousand earthquakes a year. Country is smaller than Japan. We build specifically for buildings to withstand large quakes because of this.
Every 300 years where i live experiences 9.0 or larger quakes.....last one was 330 years ago. We are calling it "the big one" we're expecting. That will be an interesting day.
4 million and 34,500,000 instead of 40k and 345k. Who edited your vids
You should see your world line in 5 years.
You all have no idea
I want to live with my children.
Life is too short.
40,000? That's 40K
Your graphic says,
4,000,000 Thats 4M
--- 345,000? That's 345K
Graphic says,
34,500,000 That's 345M
What's the name of the narrator
Why show Indian Ocean when you talk about Atlantic? What’s with all the displayed wrong numbers? You can do better, im sure.
Also, a German paper showed that around 10.6 M (moment magnitude), it would already disintegrate earth’s structure (but not end earth). Chixulub is estd to be between 9-11M. The scale is logarithmic.
What if you actually had a functioning brain cell?
4,000,000 - When you're more interested in quickly pumping out low quality content for the sake of views and can't bother to review your video before posting it. If you can't get the basics right, what other bogus stuff are you including? Or did you write this one with ChatGPT?
Thanks for watching- THAN-
When you were saying it's gone over 40,000 you have 4,000,000 then you typed 34,000,000. 🙄🤔
I think Italy will be next and them few lakes will disappear around the globe. Then the big boys will come out to play, completing giving Africa a whole new continent
What’s up with the numbers here? I’m confused. The person who made this video, didn’t he/she know the difference between hundred thousands and millions? 🤦🏻♂️ I watched this video for educational reasons, now I question its reliability given that they couldn’t even get things simple things accurate 🤷🏻♂️
Hurricanes. By the way, I have difficulty communicating because I had a stroke in Broca’s area, the part of the brain that controls speech. 2/8/2021 but I lived again. (My wife helped me compose this.)
We’d die. The end.
Considering a 9.5 is the largest ever recorded, a 15 is Highly unlikely
A 15 would be 55x a 9.5
It’s not possible
@@danevertt3210 I didn't think so
If it hit California it would be a miracle
Earthquake sux. During earthquake earth ripple like a sea surface.
