That vehicle was designed and used by the Calif. Dept. of Forestry and is known as a Mod. 12 fire engine. I drove them when new as a firefighter. Some were sold to outside agencies like this one. They were used heavily and this may be the last survivor. So good to see an old friend. Wow.

I worked for CDF in the 1990s. This engine is before my time, but I worked with people who had been on these engines. This is one of the models that inspired the later Model 14/15 with the crew cab. I mostly worked off of Model 1, 5, and Model 9 engines.

@@annalorree The last time drove one of these was at the CDF Academy in 1977. The mod. 12 and 10 were not widely accepted due to some design flaws. Early ones were not very reliable. We were supposed to train on these daily at the Academy but they were always in the shop for repairs. As an engineer, I mostly drove type 1 engines, but sometimes we had a mod. 9 as a substitute engine. I loved the 1's and 5's.

As a former firefighter I can say (at least in Georgia and Alabama) that as a private citizen owned truck you run the lights and siren on private property, or in parades and other special functions. If you are running them on the road outside of the mentioned settings you are at risk of getting a ticket for impersonating a fire department/city/county employee depending on how your local fd's are ran.

Take the straight tips off, and put on the Navy pistol grip fog nozzles... If that is a John Bean High Pressure fire engine, that fucker will work GREAT! Most city fire companies have no clue how to use high pressure to knock out a fire with LOW water use... They believe in surround and drown tactics, where you just put loads of wet stuff on the red stuff- you put out the fire, but destroy the place... We used to use a John Bean Hi-Pressure (700PSI) truck as our attack truck- go in with both reel hoses and Navy Nozzles cranked until you could hear "paper tearing" noise and a great fog pattern- Two go in together, one high, one low, and it would fill the room with a water fog, and quench the fire by cooling and displacing oxygen... AWESOME! And you would not water damage everything... That is a GREAT truck! My old fire company had two of them- a 1964 with straight pipes (great for 3am fire calls... lol) and a 1974 (If I recall correctly) Rode both beavertails many times back in the day when you could...

Drain her good for colder weather. Otherwise you'll have a lot of cracked pipes. Have fun with her, that old girl needs a loving new owner. Miss our old American LaFrance 1955 pumper. Was the first engine I drove and pumped with. She is now a museum piece and been repainted etc. BTW was there a old low band whip mounted on her anywhere? I had in my head around seventy five to eighty five thousand... for the slowest truck since trucks were used for this purpose... I hope they kept the horses that pulled their fire wagon for backup as they would of got there first

Now you just need to install some bulk above ground water tanks so that water will always be handy should you actually fight a fire at your house, barn or garage.
PS - did recent Mormon Cricket invasion reach your area of Oregon or more toward the coast?

Cool awesome truck. I agree with Casey,if the fire is to far out it will burn itself out.
