If anyone is worried about the amp not having a mid knob, it technically does! Hold TAP and the ISF knob becomes the mid. Let go of TAP and it's back to ISF. Also same thing, hold TAP and the bass knob is for resonance and treble knob is for presence! I don't know if they eventually added this in from a firmware update or something but after 3 fooking years this made me love this amp even more since I thought only the 60+ watt amps got these physical features!
Wow, that jam that the Captain did at the end of this video sounds awesome! Great playing Lee! Loved it! Oh and great review or the two ID amps. Love your reviews. If I'm ever looking for an equipment review, I always go to you two first! Hello from Canada!
Ok, every time Captain changed the preamp dial it sounded good. He then made it sound more and more muddy. That annoyed me. Howevah! I still love you guys. Love these amps too, gonna buy the 2x12 as soon as I get the money.
I love how Rob keeps his guitar in tune throughout all these videos, if a little adjustment is needed, he makes it. And it sounds great. He doesn't just ignore it and keep going. Or worse yet, he doesn't not realize it's out of tune and keep going. Cheers for the great reviews guys!
One of the best demos on this amp and great playing from both of you. I wish you would have spent more time on the cleans and effects but great sounds for what you did play. Thanks.
IT would have been good if they had done a demonstration of how the sounds change when the TVP is off and on, especially with the cleans. This was a great demo of some of the higher gain tones that are possible, but you really need to demo this thing for yourself and see how it stacks up not only to other solid state programmable amps, but also to valves with the same wattage. The clean tones and on-board effects are all great too. Blackstar really got it right with this one.
Goodbye valve amps and your high maintenance and stubborness of being warmed up first. Goodbye pedalboards and tap dancing. These are the future. Well done Blackstar.
marshall jcm800 user for 2 decades, also own 5 other tube amps and some solid states.haven't spend a nickel yet on maintenance(only ear plugs, this will decimate small cities),tubes only break if you are a jackass and abuse your equipment. warm up is about 30-45 seconds.if that's too long your a dipshit millennial and should possibly consider going into total solitude for the rest of your life.quit spreading absolute bullshit,it isnt real and is generally spread by morons who have never actually owned a tube amp. tube amps have little to no maintenance(tube changes are at users discretion) 99% of solid state amps actually have a higher failure rate and at that point are complete write offs, not repairable bic lighters.
If you have been using the same tubes for 20 years , one day they WILL fail , and on that day you will thank your stars for that .50 cent fuse , cuz that will be the only thing saving your circuit board .That being said , digital algorithm amps such as this line of Blackstar amp , while they are awesome , will never replace the kick ass , tone and raw power of a tube driven Marshall. I know this because I play both . So quit hating . It makes you sound like a Republican who's Mum didn't love him enough as a child .
Big daddio - a actually agree with some of your points. Though they could be less inflammatory. Ive owned many valve amps and currently have a jcm2000 dsl100, Laney gh50 (for back up) , and a tsl60c. And I use these for gigging. Don't make assumptions.
OMG I just notice that Sam Coulson is following you guys at the intro to these videos. Rock on. It is possible that you could do an interview / in depth interview regarding how Sam went from not playing guitar to a guitarist for Asia, and the road in between.
Hey Chappers what scale/mode were you playing in the intro? Thanks Im a Big Fan from the Los Angeles, wish i had your sponsors and job but til then ill stick with my cheap gear haha, Tell the Cap't Amazing improvement and keep being awesome guys !
I'd like to see a comparison between these TVP amps and a real valve, or several real valve amps, not just in terms of tone, but touch-response. Wondering how the dynamics of these in terms of attack on the string compare. That is my main issue with SS amps is the vast difference in touch sensitivity/response.
My buddy just sold me this amp with the pedal. I really like the opening solo Chappers does. I like that tone, setting, etc. I'm pretty much "technologically challenged." ;-) And the ending stuff that Captain was doing. All that kind of sound more than I guess what some would call "shredding." Not really into "shredding" that much. More into the Prog sound I guess. Thanks for showing the versatility of the amp. Wondering did you do a video with the pedal connected? I still have to figure all that out. Thanks again from Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
13:59 - end. Tasty! Tasty! Tasty! I could listen to that all day. Reminds me a tad of Mihalis and Raise My Rent from King Gilmour's first solo outing. Well done, Captain!!
they tried to make a solid state state that sounds like a valve amp so like a marshall valvestate (minus the 12ax7 in the preamp) but why does everybody hate on the vavestate series ?
Lee was on fire at the end there too! Brilliant to see you two back in action I was concerned that the recent events had put a stop to all this youtube goodness. Glad to see that's not the case!
After a 10 year lapse in playing guitar I decided to start over and, after owning a boss me 80, then a boss gt100 plus a thr10c just could not get a sound that I was fully happy with until I tried the Blackstar ID 15 TVP. Within a few minutes I found the exact sound I was looking for. It is so easy to dial in the sounds that I like with its user friendly controls. The amp models are very authentic and the effects more than adequate. I find the 10 inch speaker to be very sweet and the whole combo gives me great classic rock sounds........think of thin lizzy, boston lynyrd skynyrd, ac dc,,,,,,the list goes on. A great sounding amp even when turned down to whisper level. In the past I have owned a number of all valve amps, hybrids and solid state combos but this little beauty comes up trumps every time I switch it on. It is best to get the blackstar footswitch (fairly inexpensive) to get the most out of it.
Chappers, Bravo on the intro song. Almost had a bit of a John Petrucci feel like in the song Hollow Years when they played at Budokan. And Captain, your solo made feel like i was listening to blues gold. Bravo you two.
What should I get? Bugera V22 or Blackstar ID:30TVP? Looking for an solid good rock/sometimes metal sound like Guns N Roses, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Led Zeppelin, Randy Rhoads
MrMyKamilsz Unfortunately, Bugera have a reputation for poor build quality and faulty valves, jet city amps might not look as good but they sound fantastic and yes Blackstar ID amps are good but if you want real valves I`d go jet city.
flagmuffin1221 Yep, you`re absolutely right. I`ve recently been reading much more positive comments concerning Bugera, particularly the G5 infinium (a copy of the Blackstar HT5) But the Bugera copy is half the price and sounds just as good. XD
Loved the solos and the CAP10 guitar. Really like that humbucker neck sound for blues-y solos. Which leads me to: Budget Humbuckers, A Buyer's Guide. Getting a cheap humbucker guitar can be frustrating. Many variations in woods, pickups, neckdives (for SGs) etc. Examples are SG-400 Pro, all the Epis LPs etc. Is the former good or should someone go for the LP? And which one of them? It's weird that there isn't a straightforward solid option like the Affinity series from Fender's side.
Nice to see you back Chappers! As someone else said life felt empty without your videos. Amazing first solo...It sounds so sweet and inspiring when you do your "Gary Moore" (R.I.P).I appreciated the captain's explaination about cosm amps and those amps seem to take the good way BUT when will manufacturers build simple cosm amps with one or two switchable channels,a reverb and Basta! No multistorablesoundlikeanyfamousamponthisplanet controls. many players just use one setting on their amp !
My best mate just bought a special edition white 5 watt Blackstar. Neither of has ever owned a valve amp until now, but hearing his has made me consider getting one. The edition he has comes with a couple of little perks over the standard edition so I don't want to buy that one (because he'd just rub it in my face). Any suggestions for a 5 watt practice valve amp?
Hey Capt., is there a small mistake in the description? " _They are actually valve amps_, but use a great sounding---" Should there be a "not" in there? :D
Tasty, warm crunchy soulful solo at the start there. I'd love to see that on the next Dorje release! The tour has done its magic on your playing dude. next level!
I had a demo on this amplifier today, i'm still a beginner but i do have a good ear for good sound. This is the amplifier I will be buying. The sound is so good.
Hey Rob And Captain love ur reviews..would i be losing any tone from the ID 15 compared to the ID 30..I mostly jam at home and record as well.. the price difference in the US is about $120 between the 2..HELP!!!
Hi Rob, i hope you are doing well ! I would like to know your opinion about the Blackstar comparing to the Roland cube 40GX ( or the GX series generally) ! i have seen you playing through these two amps, and for a metal player, which one provides better tones, especially for high gain stuff , the Blackstar id tvp or the Roland Cube GX ? Thanks !
Anyone know what that black guitar Chappers is playing is? Is that a blue version behind the Captain also? Saw the price tag on the headstock £999 ...is it a new Gibbo variant?
Holy Mother of Guitar Solos !!!! Dat first Solo is so full of emotion it´s a masterpiece of music ! Chappers you´re so damn talented man :P Missed you :P
Would you go for this or the Vox AV15, please? Because they are emulating valve amp they won't have to be pushed as hard to get the valve sound, so could be played much quiet and still sound right?
Amps this good really should have an insert before the output stage to insert a looper so you can utilize all the onboard effects. It's so frustrating having to drag my pedals around an output for Di also.
Thanks for the reply Liam! Could you make me a favor and watch the review of the ID60 with Steve Marks? Or even the Andertons review... How does the sound of your ID30 compare to this one? I am talking about headroom, definition, clarity...that's the things i hear in the ID60 and not so much in the 30...i know this is all subjective but, if you say youtube doesen't do justice to the ID30...;) Best Regards
Is there a posibility of adding more effects to those that are already incorporated? Like marshall code or vox vtx amps or in the blackstar software if I want to play Pop or Ska
Captain NEEDS to make an Instrumental Blues Rock Album! Chapper's produce one for him!!!! My Money for that Album will be yours! He really has all the blues chop!
hiya rob! can you review the laney lx series please? or at least answer this question. my mate is offering me a laney lx65r for £100, reconditioned. good deal? thanks. (i need a bigger amp to gig with, i only have a 45 watt marshall atm and micing it up is a arseache)
Rabidius Theres a difference in build too. The Katana looks cheaper, thinner and "plasticy" whereas the IDTVP is built like a tank and looks quality. The Katana has stereo aux input, but I think on the ID60TVP & ID260TVP its only a mono aux input. From what Ive heard so far Id go with the IDTVP over the Katana, but then there is of course the new Blackstar ID100 & 150 to consider too!
Hey I just have a bit of a question regarding the power of these amps. Would you say that because of the "TVP" these amps are louder than say a Line 6? And, if so would I be able to gig small venues with the 30 watt?
First off I must say GOD DAM!!! I dont care what its for I love watching you two demo gear but I have to say this video had the best playing by far by both Chapper & The Captain. From that first second of epic shred win to the last bluesy note it was all sweet tasty jams. The Captains playing was amazing, I have alway thought he was good but his playing here was mind blowing. Great job dudes keep em' coming \m/
excellent solos! both are f***ing amazing! i hope be like you someday, oh and, anyone have the backingtrack of the Chappers's solo please? XD thanks Chappers, we are really happy to you back!
I own both the TVP 15 and HT Club 40. I used to let my other guitarist play the 15 at practice and at gigs and though he didn’t know how to set it up or even take interest in learning the features, it certainly was loud enough for our classic rock band! (sometimes too loud!) And yes of course the HT40 was louder, fuller, richer. But it should be as it costs 4x and much new! (I bought both used in excellent cond. The TVP15 for $100, the HTCLUB40 for $300 I SCORED!) 😎 Rock on!
If anyone is worried about the amp not having a mid knob, it technically does! Hold TAP and the ISF knob becomes the mid. Let go of TAP and it's back to ISF. Nice intro piece Chappers! Kudos to Blackstar for thinking outside the box a little.
Holy crap, Cap'n Lee, that's some tasty playing at the end. Great job!
Ok, every time Captain changed the preamp dial it sounded good. He then made it sound more and more muddy. That annoyed me. Howevah! I still love you guys. Love these amps too, gonna buy the 2x12 as soon as I get the money.
Chappers killed it with the intro. Long time since he played this good. Captain was good too!
That was really tasty playing Lee. You should play alot more during these demos.
One of the best demos on this amp and great playing from both of you. I wish you would have spent more time on the cleans and effects but great sounds for what you did play. Thanks.
I actually got chills from that solo for the intro, bravo Chappers . . . Bravo

Cheers guys, great fun to watch as always...loving the onesy rob. Also cheers for the backing track info in the about section.
The 60 version is amazing...and I have been a Mesa fan for over 25 years!
That intro solo was absolutely SICK🔥🔥🔥
Capt'n solo at the end was epic!!! Rob is a legend as always :)
great solo at the beginning from Chappers but how good was the Captains at the end? That bluesy tone is awesome
Goodbye valve amps and your high maintenance and stubborness of being warmed up first. Goodbye pedalboards and tap dancing. These are the future. Well done Blackstar.

While you're correct about tube amps you're wrong about everything else.

Excellent intro solo from Chappers, loved it and nice Outro from The Captain. I have the 60w version of these amplifiers and can't praise it enough.
I'd like to see a comparison between these TVP amps and a real valve, or several real valve amps, not just in terms of tone, but touch-response. Wondering how the dynamics of these in terms of attack on the string compare. That is my main issue with SS amps is the vast difference in touch sensitivity/response.
Thanks guys! I have really been hoping that you would review these exact amps. Very helpful! Now I just have to learn to play like Captain Lee.
Chappers, you nailed that solo in the beginning. I could feel your feels. Welcome back my friend. You deserve happiness brother.
epic intro for a chappers captain review
My buddy just sold me this amp with the pedal. I really like the opening solo Chappers does. First solo.... wow.... Great to have you back Rob!!
Good to see you doing these reviews :) thank u chappers good luck with everything man
they tried to make a solid state state that sounds like a valve amp so like a marshall valvestate (minus the 12ax7 in the preamp) but why does everybody hate on the vavestate series ?
Awesome Rob, Sweet tone. I have been listening to this without seeing the video (working) and the start of the video is excellent!! (as is the review)
Lee was on fire at the end there too! Brilliant to see you two back in action I was concerned that the recent events had put a stop to all this youtube goodness. Glad to see that's not the case!
I never thought I'd see a tiger playing a guitar!

Get blackstar
gifgit They've upped their game massively, the Infinium series is much higher build quality.
flagmuffin1221 Yep, you`re absolutely right. I`ve recently been reading much more positive comments concerning Bugera, particularly the G5 infinium (a copy of the Blackstar HT5) But the Bugera copy is half the price and sounds just as good. XD

Hey guys what happened to the other Strymon vid of Rabea's Timeline and Mobius? Really wanted to see that one.
Hey Capt., is there a small mistake in the description? " _They are actually valve amps_, but use a great sounding---" Should there be a "not" in there? :D
The Andertons website says the CAP10 is out of stock. Any idea when they will be available?
there is no mid. knob on the 15 and 30 , is it possible ti adjust the mids. with the insider software ?
Richard Collier for people wondering this once you update the firmware if you hold the tap tempo button the bass and treble become mid and presence.
Yes, mids are adjusted by using the ISP control and is pretty effective too.
Jesus Lee, that is some of the tastiest playing I've ever heard you do. You deserve that sig model. Top job
are these amps far too loud for small bedroom use with 2 young kids asleep and me ragging all kinds of nasty?
At this rate, Lee will be sweep picking by December! He's killing these videos!
Captain, you just really blew my mind at the end!
I've never seen that Gibson before. Its quite unusual looking! No f-holes?
wow I don't always like what Rob is playing, but hey, what an intro !!!!!!
You rocked big time Rob !!
The amps were OK, but what really impressed me was the white strattisherish kap-i-tan axe. Havent seen a demo of that one yet. Beauty.
@Rob Chapman This thing sounds better than the Katana Artist... do they make a 50 watt version that sounds just like this?
i want to buy a cap-10 so bad. they look wonderful :) im probably going to build a guitar soon, do you have any tips?
Hi Guys. Great demo. Are the 15 and 30 watt versions compatible with the ID footswitch?
Fair enough about the tee shirt...what about the chappers' leopardskin onesy?
As soon as it comes out we will video them - I don't think they are coming till June.
Hey Rob And Captain love ur reviews..would i be losing any tone from the ID 15 compared to the ID 30..I mostly jam at home and record as well.. the price difference in the US is about $120 between the 2..HELP!!!
Is that a pack of blue berry swishers on the floor?
Blackstar ID amps seem to be really awesome for digital modelling amps. I'd love to see a comparison between the Blackstar and the Peavey Vypyr.
Do Anderton's give the snuggie to match the Cap Ten guitar scratchplate?
Holy Mother of Guitar Solos !!!! Dat first Solo is so full of emotion it´s a masterpiece of music ! Chappers you´re so damn talented man :P Missed you :P
Would you go for this or the Vox AV15, please? Because they are emulating valve amp they won't have to be pushed as hard to get the valve sound, so could be played much quiet and still sound right?
Amps this good really should have an insert before the output stage to insert a looper so you can utilize all the onboard effects. It's so frustrating having to drag my pedals around an output for Di also.
Hey Chappers, will you review the Blackstar HT Metal series?
Please?
in this video, was the backing music also getting played through the amp using the USB function?
It's always awesome when you guys do jams
Thanks for the reply Liam! Could you make me a favor and watch the review of the ID60 with Steve Marks? Or even the Andertons review... How does the sound of your ID30 compare to this one? I am talking about headroom, definition, clarity...that's the things i hear in the ID60 and not so much in the 30...i know this is all subjective but, if you say youtube doesen't do justice to the ID30...;) Best Regards
I love you for supplying me with your videos, its like a drug to me
Is there a posibility of adding more effects to those that are already incorporated? Like marshall code or vox vtx amps or in the blackstar software if I want to play Pop or Ska
Sounds like theres a digital sort of "boominess" bassy noise that happens when the note is first picked. Happens on my cheapo Line 6 spider 15w :/
Captain NEEDS to make an Instrumental Blues Rock Album! Chapper's produce one for him!!!! My Money for that Album will be yours! He really has all the blues chop!
~14:00+ solo from Captain was one of the best solos he's ever played - very "Gilmourish" at times, + I love the groove, prime stuff!
7:50 how did you do that and how do you (name) call it? I mean this squealing.
hiya rob! can you review the laney lx series please? or at least answer this question. my mate is offering me a laney lx65r for £100, reconditioned. good deal? thanks. (i need a bigger amp to gig with, i only have a 45 watt marshall atm and micing it up is a arseache)
What is Captain lee eating because I want some if its gonna make me play like that!!!
chappers how old were you when you started playing if im even half as good as you in a few years time I will be happy your amazing
I'm trying to decide between this and the Boss Katana..
Me to! Can someone just please tell me what to buy already...
I'd go with the Blackstar because of the TVP but that's pretty much the only big difference between them that I can think of.
Rabidius Theres a difference in build too. The Katana looks cheaper, thinner and "plasticy" whereas the IDTVP is built like a tank and looks quality. The Katana has stereo aux input, but I think on the ID60TVP & ID260TVP its only a mono aux input.
From what Ive heard so far Id go with the IDTVP over the Katana, but then there is of course the new Blackstar ID100 & 150 to consider too!
im thinking idcore 100.
had the id20 for a while now. great practice amp
Does the id core 100 have the tvp function? I tested the tvp 15 and it was amazing!
Hey I just have a bit of a question regarding the power of these amps. Would you say that because of the "TVP" these amps are louder than say a Line 6? And, if so would I be able to gig small venues with the 30 watt?
Hi! Please do a demo/review of the Reso Tele. That thing looks so damn cool, bet it sounds like heaven.
And the question is, what do you prefer, HT1/HT5 or one of these?
Holy Captain Morgans, the Cap pretty well nailed that piece down with a flair! WTG Captain!!
A, where can I get your backing track from and B, what scale does rob solo in mostly? looks like major to me but im a noob sooooo? lol
I'm looking at either a Blackstar ID30 or Mustang III amp for both home and live gig use. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Rob.. why did you take the onesie off? dude...
I'm proud to own one of those 15-watters. This is the best-sounding solid-state amp I've heard.
What is that black double-cut guitar? I want three of them!
hey rob will you ever offer the ml1 or ml2 in a satin finish?
What's that? White rose? "Who's song is that" ?
What's the condensor mic you're using to mic up the amps? sounds great wiht the sm57
Captain, I really enjoy your playing in the end :)
Where do I get the outfit Rob was wearing?!
by the way....where are you guys getting the sick backing tracks? D:
So when´s Captain´s solo blues album coming out? ;-)
Do andertons to submit to Serbia Chapmans ml1 guitar trans black ... and how much would it cost ....?
excellent solos! both are f***ing amazing! i hope be like you someday, oh and, anyone have the backingtrack of the Chappers's solo please? XD thanks
Chappers, we are really happy to you back!
