I have the Akai Advance Pro 49 from 2015 and I gotta say, they DID NOT figure it out. Having velocity issues and I can't find any videos of that one being taken apart, so this is as close as I can get. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for posting this - I had two keys on my MPK Mini that stopped working after I spilled a beverage onto the keyboard. What I realized is at the bottom of each rubber 'cone' are a set of contacts that create a circuit with the PC underneath when it's pressed. When I looked closely at mine, I saw that they were coated with the sticky residue of the drink, and so I used electronics cleaning wipes to remove it. Worked fine after I put it back together. Cheers!
This is the Best fix your "MPK 49/61 Keys" tutorial ... my results before watching this was the same as the first half of this video, which didn't work for me either!!! lol. FAST FORWARD to the 31:45 min part of the Video, this is the section that worked!!! Thanks much for creating this Video, the final result was very much worth the wait. Glad you didn't give up!!!
Honestly one of the funniest Survival Movies, couldnt have written and edited it any better..and you did it!! mad skills..(Not sure if I wanna open up the MPK up tho)
My keyboard broke again, more broken keys, I forgot what I did to fix it, so i gotta watch this long ass video, I am going to make this video shorter so it gets to the point, thanks for the support yall!
ThisDreamIsReal hey man I found a much simpler fix for this problem. There's a felt pad that runs across the length of the keyboard (one for the base of the black keys and one for the base of the white keys) remove that POS and it will allow the keys to make the full range of motion and it'll be fixed in a jif. Thanks for the vid though. Helped me eliminate some potential problems.
THANK YOU! THIS WORKED on my mpk225 that i spilled a screwdriver on. Middle C and few others was fked... I just removed the felt from and left the pad THANK YOU!
Oh Captain, my Captain! Man, you're a hero to MPK49 owners everywhere! I just bought a used MPK49 for $200. The keys are not failing but a lot of the buttons on it need to be pressed harder than others in order for them to work. I took mine apart and dusted things off before I saw your tutorial but I'll check to see if your solution for the keys might just do the trick. Cheers from Barcelona!
so i bought mine from a pawn shop a year ago, that was my first problem, and was a little intimidated to try this, being that i have the same problem. Glad you dove in head first...great video!!!!
Hey bro. Can't thank you enough for this. I thought I was going to have to get a new controller but now, after fixing it, i love mine even more! Wouldn't have been able to do it without your help.
Enjoyed your video. I've had similar issues with mine and I've had it apart so many times that I'm thinking I should put in a resume to Akai repair center lol Cleaning these every so often is about the only way to keep them tip top.
I would 100% recommend for cleaning contacts using electrical contact cleaner. It comes in an aerosol can. Works wonders for removing anything from electrical contacts and won't damage anything on the PCB.
I have a MPK61 that had one dead sharp key. I also had several more act up the moment I took it apart! But I tried the cardboard piece under the keys trick and sure enough they all work again! Cant tell any difference in the feel of the keys at all. It was actually quite easy to do, once the keyboard is opened up. Oh and BTW, if you think getting a M-audio keyboard will be an upgrade, think again.. Akai and M-audio are the same Company! -Cheers!
Thanks brother! Will get to work on mine. Unfortunately sitting idle in Costa Rican climate kills things. My M Audio has similar issues so I don’t think that it’s just AKAI. Dust and possibly corrosion kill electronics. Peace be with you brother for the tutorial!👌👍
i was thinking of adding electrical tape to all my keys to give the keys more sensitivity like their is with the pads after electrical tape. Do you notice that some keys are more sensitive now than others?
For the future: avoid ANY brand owned by inMusic (DenonDJ, Rane, M-Audio, Akai Pro etc.) All they do is buy former high-quality brands, and turn them into NUMARK quality products - for profit...
Thank you for this. I have a weird key on an MPK61. I actually misread your Channel name but it resonated with the the video I thought. I thought it said "ThisStreamIsReal" 😂
Hello mate. I've a problem with my mpk49 keyboard, that is, when i connect it with ableton, it put the volume and transposing knobs of every VST in the lowest setup and always shaking. I reinstalled ableton and it happened again. Then i could see in the controller screen that some numbers are shaking too. Do you know what could be the problem?
STUPID QUESTION HERE: so is the USB cable necessary for connecting to a studio program? I have Studio One (Audiobox USB) and im only using the Midi IN & OUT cables....I havent the slightest idea of what I am doing but i'd like to get some clarification on this question if you can help. Also do I need software for the Akai MPK49? I ask cause I bought my used.
yo, dont spose u have any experience with the full level key? taken it apart switched over the plastics, still nothing, no light either! any idea? cheers for the vid!
you have serious latency issues with your audio driver. lol. but anyways, I don't have a similar problem but mine was my transpose button stopped working. and 2 of my knobs keep sending midi signals even when I don't touch it. By any chance you know the solution to that?
I believe these two sentences may be connected: "I don't know if its dust under there or what" and 'The humidity in this room is effecting everything" ;`)
ya gotta replace the rubber pads - they wear over time. Like magic you'll get the response back like new! Best bet is to buy a smashed one on Ebay and pull the keyboard. There are some conductive paints and pencils that *may* work better, but replacing the rubber contact pad is the best fix.
Hello ThisDreamisReal the failure of your controller is not at the level of the keys themselves, the problem is the rubber sensor which is under the keys. As long as you do not change this part there you will always have the same problem in a few months you made a temporary repair that will not last long.
THE TWO white ribbon connectors that go from the key section's motherboard (bottom piece) and the face plate's mother board (button area) disconnected as SOON as I was about to put the top onto the bottom (putting it back together), you have to slip them under a horizontal slot in the top motherboard (but u can't see where to put them in the motherboard) in order to reconnect, I undid all of the faceplate screws but it looks like it doesn't come off and is glued, is this true? can someone help? has this happened to anyone?? thank you
Thanks bra... I broke one of those things that hold the key down.... biatch... lost the lil piece now Im customising a piece of Lego to replace it... but thanks for showing me some things...
All of this Akai MPK have this probleem, it's the big AKAI problem, I dont understand, poor plastic frame, the key part doesn't fall enough low to press the graphite pad contact. So Thanks.
All you gotta do is get a soldering gun, you can pick one up at walmart for like 15 bucks or less or an electronics store, take the keyboard apart and add new solder to where the part broke off. Its not hard there are videos for beginners on how to solder if you dont already know how. Just take your time with it.
dean albright did anyone find a solution to this problem? My usb stopped working so I brought a midiplus interface and midi cables to use the midi ports and still no luck.

Loved your video! Funny and useful. Best of luck from London!
My keys are popping up, and I need a keybed to fix. You have a link to get this part?
Nice job you never gave up.

I can hear the latency when you hit the keys.
how do i fix a keyboard making a weird static squicking noise when i press a key on it?
do you have issues with no power at times? Mine will not come back on and I have not dropped it all.

Hey bro, could you shed some light on midi "ghosting". My MPK going nuts! Thanks!
Analyzing the situation .. i see a drink right at the spot when you could spill into the F and G when wildin' out : )
No problem with my key bed. But I get loads of problems with the buttons & knobs / sliders on this thing.
Just found this video, 11 years after it was posted 😮
Thank you very much for this great video. Finally helped me fix my MPK ;)
It's sad that to own an mpk you have to know how to take it apart and repair it so you can enjoy it. smfh
Thanks bra... I broke one of those things that hold the key down.... biatch... lost the lil piece now Im customising a piece of Lego to replace it... but thanks for showing me some things...

Yea this machine is a piece of shit, mine is doing the same. Two keys don't work and the usb draws too much power.
just sell it and get a better quality keyboard. mpk is notoriously poorly made from what I have experienced and read from other users.
Get yourself a Novation keyboard controller.
My knobs go nuts on my mpk25 really fucking ANNOYING
It throwing phantom signals?
I've got 8 of those cheap ass keys that are broken on my MPK-49. Aaaaaaaarrrrgggghhhhh!!!!!!!!
