  • A quick video on how I repaired that Akai MPK249. Basically, the USB connector was destroyed. I replaced it and now works like a charm.

    Thanks a lot for the how to! Mine broke too! Akai MPK 249.
    Where did you get your new USB port from? Is it a standard part or an AKAI part?
    This happens to many people. If this is an AKAI 'professional equipment what's the normal stuff like? Badly made device!
    NEVER BUYING AKAI AGAIN!

      @@mannshambles7006 it could be the screen itself. If you're comfortable opening it, check the ribon cable or connector that goes to the lcd board.

    So I got a desoldering pump and a new connector and I managed to get the old one out and the new one in. I'm not great at soldering and it certainly wasn't the cleanest job, but I managed to get it in without any of the contacts touching. When I plug it into my laptop it powers on but the backlight is very dim. If I use a power adapter the lights are bright and everything appears to work as it should, but either way it won't recognize it as a usb device or transmit midi data. I'm wondering if perhaps I somehow fried that part of the circuit board when taking out the old part? Let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks!

      I highly suggest you practice a bit your soldering skill a bit before. Soldering the 4 pins is not that much hard but the process of unsoldering can be. Just be really careful and gentle during the process and it should be fine. Good luck!

    Is there a wattage requirement for the soldering iron? I got a 30w but the solder on the board doesn’t liquify at all when I hold the tip against it. This is my first time soldering though, so I’m probably doing something wrong.

    • @ThePhilStudio
      @ThePhilStudio  2 роки тому +1

      You would find it easier with something like a Weller soldering station. 60-85W will do the job. Adjustable temp are really useful. I usually set it around 750-800f depending on the job.
