Hi Zane, I’m Lao American 🇺🇸 living in USA for long time. I live in California 44 years. Last time I went back to my hometown was 2013. I am jealous of you being there 😅😅😅. I really want to go back home but I don’t have time and enough money to go spend like you for now. However, thank you for sharing this video. I also subscribe you as well.
Probably my favorite country in SE Asia. Disclaimer: I was only in Vientiane for 1 week and luckily made a couple new foreign friends and domestic ones too so I might be bias. I happen to look like the locals too so my experience may differ. It was cleaner than I thought it would be but certain parts were very dark at night but I never felt unsafe. It was hotter than Vietnam and Cambodia, I had to stop walking every 10 minutes because that heat was boiling me alive. The bar/club scene is smaller than the other SE Asian countries but it had a really cool and fun vibe. The locals were very friendly and a decent amount of people could speak English. Be ready to visit a crap load of temples and for a person who doesn't care much for religion it was culturally an amazing experience for me. I think having met and hung out with good friends made Laos that much more enjoyable for me. BeerLaos is awesome!
Thank you for you go to Laos is was my home country now I am USA citizen I see you video that was so many banks in Laos 🇱🇦 now be for was only one ☝️ bank but thank you so much for you visit Laos you did good 👍
Im shocked by the amount of trash everywhere in the city. I hope the city officials there address this problem and bring awareness to the people about keeping their environment clean and tidy!
He visited the day right after Pi Mai Lao which is same as songkran in Thailand. So the street is not clean up yet. Feel so bad seeing this much garbage lying around lol.

Hi ! I am a person who likes to make content on UA-cam and today I saw a video clip of you being the first person to visit my country. I am very happy.
I am a Swiss-Indonesian origin, was there in February 2024 and was really hot. I was almost all alone walking in Vientiane at noon. I was walked hours until I finally found a sim card. I enjoyed my time in Vientiane, then I went to Vang Vieng for some nights and continued to Luang Prabang. Back to Vientiane and flew to Bangkok.
the Indo-China part of South East Asia is currently under severe heat wave… maybe thats why…. This April temperature was a record breaking month indeed.
All the foreign banks are there for investment opportunities. Local Laos bank are not there as they do not have anough capital to act as one. Basically the same happens in Cambodia where the Chinese are everywhere. For example all public transport is "sponsored"by China, you see that message on the busses in Pnomh Penh for example.
I showed my husband your Cambodia series last night and he is now a new subscriber! He also wanted to me ask you if you use a shit ton of sunblock because you are always in the sun but never get burned!
Hello Zane, I'm Nasim, an IT undergraduate student living in Afghanistan. As a fluent English speaker with a passion for my country's rich history and stunning landscapes, I'm eager to guide you through Afghanistan's popular attractions. I'm friendly, open to making friends from different cultures, and love communicating with people. Let me show you the beauty and heritage of Afghanistan through a local's eyes.
I have to agree with you about garbage. I was born in Vientiane. When I go visit that’s first thing I saw, is garbage. I wish local people would do something about it. Thank you sharing. Lao food is more spicy than other countries in Southeast Asia.
If you are unsure about the money exchange at the airport just try to find a Bank at Vientiane airport there are at least a few but the exchange rate might not be as good as at a Bank in Vientiane City so just exchange for your immediate needs and much more at a Bank in town. This saves you the agony of fretting about it and gives you peace of mind thank you very much and enjoy your evening
Vientiane is very nice for a capital city, but not very geared toward tourists (like where I live in Phnom Penh). I found Luang Prabang to be very nice, but also super touristy. I really enjoyed the more subtle feel of Luang Namtha more. Vang Vieng felt like a nightmare though.
Enjoy your stay in Vientiane And thank you for your vidéos 😄🙏 There are two ancien mall Talat Sao that you Can visit And Vientiane center as well 😉 bon appétit !!!
Great video! Lived in Vientianne for a year, daytime is mostly quiet but the city rises when the sun goes down. The trash must be from Pimai, don't remember the streets being dirty. I know a few people who had mines etc. exploding while playing in the fields as a kid, mostly southern Laos, but yes, it's still dangerous out there. Enjoy the trip!
The street you walk look dirty because its after Lao New Year. They haven’t cleaned it yet. And most of people went to their hometown during this period and less people in the city.
Always forgot about laos as a country until you posted this video.Glad you posted your laos visit and hope you enjoyed your trip😁despite the money scam.Hope you visit Cambodia next
The dish is Lab Mo (in thai) you get it there too :), mint (or eucalyptus not sure), minced pork, chili, thai-onion or normal onion, and fried crushed rice powder(if you feel something hard when you chewing), and other spices.

Part of the charm of Laos as a tourist destination is that it's not Thailand! Building a shiny mall and skyscraper on every corner doesn't make it a developed country, developing an infrastructure of decent health care, and a good standard of living and social care for all does. You'll see when you go to Luang Prabang that in terms of being a tourist destination, it needs to remain as the wonderful town it already is.
Thank you for sharing, it was great to see around the places i have heard much about before i visit in November. you were right you visited during Lao new year just after songkran (Waterfest), the concert looking place was Beerlao waterfest concert, that's why it was so messy
You are lucky that you came into the time we are struggling with inflation, so everything seems super cheap for you. Hope you had a good time and thanks for advocate our little Laos :) all da best!
To the question why there are so many banks on the Lanexang Avenue in your VDO, it’s because the area is the financial center in our country. Most of major banks have their headquarters in this area
I live in Khon Kaen, Thailand and having known a lot of Laos people: Thai Baht is accepted in Laos, or at least as i know about. and is probably better to use than Kip. Just helping out. Great video btw!
7:03 This has been more than 2 weeks. Laos organizes a New Year's event. Like Thailand, there is a concert stage. But the event ended for two weeks. The garbage is still scattered. The stage is still not collected. What are you waiting for? Laos works very slowly. How can you let this condition go? In Thailand, it will be cleaned immediately after work and the place must be ready to use next.
I was in Laos a bit over a year ago. I was there in Dec/Jan and it was like 80F and beautiful. The COPE center is near the two big shopping malls in Vientiane. However there is also a landmine education center in Luang Prabang, just slightly away from the main old town area.
