Cause MP-44 was crazily engineered in that cab. The single release was $260 alone, especially since they also had electronics in Mp-44, so some of that price boost comes from using that. Ginrai and Jetfire though? No electronics and a thankfully much simpler engineering scheme from what I've seen
And yet jetfires face changing function, led to the first time I transformed him, the face broke off. With how expensive they are, they need to do a better job ensuring the bloody things don't break after 1 transformation, let alone 3 or 4.
What I want to know is why does Super Ginrai have red hands? The American G1 PowerMaster Prime had red hands only because Hasbro molded the arms in one piece. In Takara, the hands were blue and separate molds. So why in Alpha Trion’s Beard are the hands red on the MPG?
His hands were red fingers and palms with the back of his hand being blue in the anime, he has alternate hands to give him solid blue hands to mimic the toy
i think that in the animation they were red except for the upper part of the hands, just like the mpg figure, which has animation accurate colors Edit: nevermind it also includes alternate blue hands
If I had money, I'd try to get the MPG version. Because...I may not get another place to say this, so here goes; and this is a hill I'll die on alone if I have to: I like the idea of Planet Master, the Transtectors, and Brainmasters over the idea of Planet Nebulos. In my eyes, it fits far more with the tone and aesthetic of Transformers, and makes more sense lore-wise (a smaller Transformer uses less energy, and the vehicle becoming a robot body could easily be seen as an emergency measure instead of their main form). The Godmasters (and the Headmaster Juniors) are similar to my problem with Planet Nebulos and the Nebulans (and Daniel), but keeping the Transtector idea was a smart choice.
If this is what MP ends with, this is rather poetic. It began with an Optimus and it ends with an Optimus (yes I know Ginrai is his own guy, but come on, that’s PMOP).
OP / Convoy passing the baton to PP / SG. I'm sure they wanted to do a clean break in a somewhat chronological way, since MP covered a lot of G1 1984 - 1986 releases and pre-TF Diaclone. Seems fitting.
From what I've heard. The MP-60 Ginrai comes with a sticker set for MPG-09 Super Ginrai. The sticker is toy-accurate vs the cartoon-accurate stickers that would come with MPG-09 Super Ginrai
I would say it isnt the final masterpiece ever as it will continue in the MPG line. but as the non getai (spelling?) line, yes mp-60 will be the last one. i am glad the MPG includes the cab and is a different deco.
Some sources that state that it’s not the true end of MP, the they’re just shifting all of their current stuff into G to have a central line. Jazz dk2 guard and predaking are some of the first that will come in this new brand
Gattai (combining) is the original meaning of the G in MPG - I really don’t see the fusing of MP into MPG as a reason for Takaratomy to change the meaning of the G from now on. That would be a cheap move, like ‘anything goes’.
I’m interested in super ginrai, but I’d like to see the combination with god bomber before I make a decision. The base ginrai looks freaking awesome, I’m not 100% sold on the super mode
I've got an interesting intrusive idea/question that I don't know where else to share except on a TF video about something Masterforce-related: Why didn't Hasbro/Takara bother to collaborate with Toei and some dubbing studio and produce a localization of Masterforce series during the nineties when super sentai stuff and anime were experiencing a boom of popularity in the West? Granted, it might not have worked out anywhere near as well as I assume it might have, but I mean, they probably (?) had the funds and must still have had the molds... That might have revitalized the brand and given Saban some competition in terms of bringing tokusatsu-adjacent shows overseas. There are probably multiple reasons as to why this would never have happened ever (at least one of which being that Toei's infamously hard to work with), but it's still an interesting idea, I think.
Because at the time, Hasbro's product was nothing like what Masterforce had, and there was no gain to paying for a dub of an 80s anime for something that wouldn't amount to sales. Recall while the anime boom was happening, vehicle Transformers were out of popularity, and Transformers wasn't all that popular, and that didn't change until they had new shows to dub with new toys behind them.
Powermaster Optimus Prime / Ginrai / Super Ginrai to me is the best version outside his original G1 form. I was excited to Optimus Prime return back in 1988 as we know what happened to him in the 1986 film. And it's great to see him again in Masterpiece so I'm definitely getting this.
Am I the only one who would have wanted the Matrix of Leadership for Ginrai? I know he doesn't have it, but considering it was originally an Optims Prime toy it would have been appropriate
The G doesn't also mean the three titles (Gattai, Giant, Great), it also means "Gimmick". We are getting Transformers that have these tricky gimmicks from the old G1 toys, like the Headmasters, Brainmasters, etc.
Who would buy Ginrai, when there's Super Ginrai ? Make Ginrai's eyes blue (cartoon accurate) , and make Ginrai+trailer's eyes red (toy accurate -- and you have your assured purchases .
It looks like there's some normal shoulder motion. Looking at the left shoulder in that close-up shot, the angle between the blue piece and the shoulder is obviously greater than 90 degrees. So it looks like he's doing the Missing Link thing, where there are two outward hinges with a swivel in between. Honestly, I think the MPG rebrand makes about as much sense as Bandai releasing CSM toys of Rider gear that never got DX releases. So there's at least precedence for it in the Japanese toy market, even if it feels weird.
I ended up getting the Takara Ginrai with the God Bomber armor, and even got the Takara Wheelie just for Gō Shūta back in Titans(?). I'm probably going to be all over this, especially if there's a Bomber armor.
The Red Eyes and the USA UK EU release of the toy are accurate to The Marvel G1 comic too. The Japan release with the trailer comes with two heads for the super mode robot red and blue eyes.
And after all these years, so many characters are missing from the MP line... Jazz, Cliffjumper, Mirage, Hoist, Gears, Insecticons... sad to see that the line would end with Ginrai/PM Optimus :/
I'd love to get the MPG release of this, as I loved the G1 PMOP as a kid. I just don't know if I want to drop $300+ for it. I didn't buy Optimus 3.0 ($400) but I do own MP Skyfire ($250). Decisions, decisions.
Skipped MP-44 because I'm happy with MP-10. Going to get Super Ginrai because this is Technically the most Powerful Form of G1 Optimus Prime in my Head at least
I wonder if they will do an MPG grand Galvatron if they hadn’t done one already. I would also be really interested in MPG sky Gary or Grandis. Preferably Grandis.
I'd love to get this MP. I don't think they can screw this one up with fiddly panels, fake parts, and a 45-minute transformation that makes you get frustrated and not want to transform it for another 6 months. But I would likely rather get the WFC/SS86/Generations Select scale version for cost reasons
Here is my observation. Mp 60 may be the size of earthrise Optimus or tf animated op. I am only conjecturing because of the simple looking transformation and the hands look similar to the earthrise. Perhaps I’m wrong….
No, it's not the final Masterpiece. Just under that name. they are moving the Masterpiece line under a new name. So they can focus on more. Like they did with raiden. maybe make some new combiners. Maybe even do something like Overlord maybe.
It seems to me that this rebranding to MPG is just a way to eliminate the ‘Transformers’ logo & identity from the figure’s packaging- not a plan to change the scale to smaller for all releases like many openly fear. Am I really the only one that noticed that all MPG releases thus far have not a single ‘Transformers’ logo or written form in the main titles printed on the packaging? All that is left is a small Autobot insignia near the figure’s name/title. It feels like copyright dodging in regards to the ‘Transformers’ identity, created by Hasbro not Takara who created the toys/figures. Also, looking at the price tag for Ginrai and Super Ginrai, they are prices fitting for full Masterpiece scale figures sold recently, such as MP-44S.
If there is, it won't probably exist for a few years, at least. I'd just grab Ginrai when he's available rather than let him sell out and then hope for a gift set with God Bomber down the line.
To me the Ginrai looks flimsy and small, the trailer also looks weirdly proportioned with the arms far too prominent. I'll need to see more to consider this with the inevitable price tag....
I don't think you actually NEED Ginrai to connect to the truck to transform it. It's just there to mimic the show. If I'm wrong then the figure is even worse than I thought.
I don't think this works. You can get away with doing a G1 Optimus Prime without the trailer because the trailer doesn't actually do anything. It's a nice extra to have for vehicle mode but once you get into robot mode it's just kind of this extra thing you put off to the side. With Powermaster Optimus Prime though you're losing everything that makes him Powermaster Optimus Prime when you don't have the tailer. Just the cab by itself might as well just be a weirdly styalized G1 Optimus. It's not Powermaster Optimus Prime. And since when has Masterpiece ever done toy accurate versions before? Their whole brand has been screen accuracy not toy accuracy. Maybe I'm wrong cause I haven't followed Masterpiece in a long time, they're way too expensive now days. But this just makes things even worse I think. I'm almost certain the only people who are going to buy the Genrai on it's own are also going to get Super Genrai just so they have a fully conplete toy accurate set. I can't imagine anyone wanting an incomplete Powermaster Optimus Prime. To me the cab by itself is just G1 Optimus Prime and if I only wanted that I would actually get a G1 Optimus Prime not the Powermaster version. If I'm going to get a Powermaster Optimus Prime that means I want him to have the trailer.
You need the know the story. This is not optimus prime. This a body for Optimus prime but lost . A human found it and use it . So it can only unlock and works only with a human body . But never use with the spark of Optimus prime with a human .

Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath on a Godbomber outta Takara. They didn't do a Victory Leo to go with Starsaber. (Side note: funny how Super Ginrai isn't as expensive as MP44...) It is kinda ironic: if you look over the winners of that 2013 Masterpiece Fan's Choice Poll, Takara's already made four (well, three with one on the way) of the entrants: MP24 Starsaber (who won), MP32 BW Convoy (Optimus Primal), MP48 Lioconvoy (nice Kitty Mew Mew), and the upcoming MP60 Ginrai/MPG9 Super Ginrai. Which leaves Fortress Maximus, Dai Atlas, Big Convoy ("It's Morphin Time! MASTODON!!"), Super Fire Convoy (RiD01 Optimus Prime), Micron Convoy (Armada Optimus), Grand Convoy (Energon Optimus), and Galaxy Convoy (Cybertron Optimus) yet to be done...and apart from Dai Atlas & Big Convoy, errybody kinda would make sense for MPG.
