Nope, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is made from Natural Gas and is tops. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is a bit better than the top Valvoline. I've been purchasing it for less than $24.00 5 quart jug at Walmart, so you're not being honest. I think this video is easily spotted as a Valvoline commercial. You said you aren't being paid but are you getting compensated with free products? How much in products have you gotten for free? You hardly stated anything about Pennzoil and I think that's because you know the top Pennzoil is better than the top Valvoline. You didn't bother to price out the Pennzoil so, that's your tell on what you said. You weren't being truthful. I won't be a subscriber.
Yeah I don't really know what you're talking about Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is my number one oil I have that all over this channel but when you're talking about ease of getting it it's not easy to get sometimes and if you go through the oil videos people say that all the time you have to order it Valvoline is easier to get but Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is my number one video now I'm going to tell you right now you're allowed to stay but if you keep running your mouth causing problems and not doing the research and asking questions and making assumptions I will remove you from the channel for being an idiot
@FordBossMe you always talk about Pennzoil Ultra Platinum this guy I just trying stir up trouble you inform us all very well about the different brands....This guy either doesn't listen or is a fool
@dennisrutherford6973 Get a fkn clue maate! Penns oil platinum ultra is Richs number one recommendation. He even shows how good it is on test. Thier are very few vids were he doesnt blather on about how good penns oil is. Try watching his channel before you write your ignorant comments. And the products sent to him are with out advertising pay. Because he wants be honest about those products, but not beating up on them. And he ain't sponsored by valvoline. Rich is an honest man.
I've built a half dozen 4R75E transmissions, and I've used SuperTech Merc V in all of them. I've never had any issues whatsoever, aside from having a slightly thicker wallet.
My brother-in-law worked for United Refinery in Pennsylvania for 30+ years, where they refine oil and blend to make gasoline, laquear thinner, paint thinner, kerosene, diesel fuels, and motor oils. I asked him about the low-down on motor oils and what brand they sell. They market their own brand under Brad-Penn oil. However, he said that they blend for Kendall, Quaker State, and some of the store brands. They used to do Pennzoil and other name brands. One thing he said about the Pennzoil was that the natural gas derived base stock was as clear as water because it was so pure versus what was pulled as a liquid from the ground and refined. In talking oils, he said all the base stocks are the same for all brands. The only difference is the additive package that a particular brand wants blended into the stock oil; they did not make additive packages. He said the packages they received were proprietary mixes hauled in on rail and truck from Lubrizol. He said that Lubrizol makes virtually all the additive packages for just about all refiners. The distinction is that each brand has chemists that R&D on what they have found is the right chemical formulations for auto engines. He said that the higher priced oils that the typical user buys have a more expensive and usually a more effective wear package for auto engines. BTW, he said they refine and blend oil for railroad diesel locomotives from Pennsylvania crude because the diesel engineers have found that PA crude is the best oil for preventing excessive wear on the rod and crank bearings in those engines since those parts are made with high concentrations of silver.
I've read over the last several years that PA crude still has unique properties than any other. Also, Driven GP-1 oil was developed from PA crude much like the Brad-Penn formula for vintage engines.
Supertec is actually a great oil. Warren company have been making oil since the 1930’s if I am not mistaken. Regardless of what synthetic oil you use, as long as it says API certified on it, you’re okay. Change your oil at regular intervals or more frequently based on driving conditions👍🏽
All the oils are good oils. API approval your good to go. The government is up the ass of these oil companies. The guys at Blackstone labs use what’s on sale. Just use the correct weight oil. It says on your oil cap. I use a 5/30 instead of 5/20 because I have high mileage on my vehicle 144,000 Honda Ridgeline a bit thicker is good for compression. If you buy Napa oil your getting Valvoline. Walmart super tech is blended by Warren oil company. Great oil. API approved. Don’t be fooled by pretty jugs and logos.
I totally agree with you on this subject. I used SuperTech for 25 plus years and do regular oil changes and nothing breaks down on any of my vehicles. They used to be way cheaper but now like anything elses, it went up in prices too.
supertech is marginally cheaper than the name brands, id rather go for a name brand. i used to buy supertech before 2019 when it was VERY cheap like 12 bucks for 5 quarts of full synthetic. then around 2019-2020 they jacked their prices up to almost what the other brands are
I used to be a Castrol and Mobil 1 and to be honest thought they were completely over rated. I did my research on Pennzoil and been a fan since. Definitely believe in the gas to Oil technology, which is cleaner than crude. GOOD REVIEW BROTHER.
Yep ultra, it's hard to get in this part. I'll stick with Mobil1 because it's always available In most stores. Check back with me in 12 years and I'll tell you how the engine made it.
For 25+ years I've.mostly used Mobil 1 full synthetic and Valvoline full synthetic (non extended performance). As of late, I've been pretty high on pennzoil ultra platinum full synthetic, mostly because of some testing by project farm. I tend to stay away from extended performance oils because I read somewhere that it can swell your rings. Then later can cause oil blowby Unsure how true that is
I used to work with oils and lubricants in the military. What I know is, change your oil more often and use a good oil. Shell (Pennzoil) and Valvoline are excellent oils.
For awhile, the 5qt jug of Valvoline was the best price because Valvoline offered a $5 rebate on the 5qt jugs. It made a 5qt jug $21.97. The rebate just ended but I picked up a 5qt jug for my truck right before it ended. Now I’m back to getting the Valvoline garage box. Don’t forget to check offers and rebates for these oils.
Regarding Mobile vs the others, people need to understand that things change. Mobile 1 was a *great* oil compared to others a number of years ago, but other manufacturers didn't stand still. They have kept innovating. Pennzoil came out with Platinum and that was a big step forward, and now Valvoline has made changes and are much better than they used to be. We need to stay informed and not become blind to change. Good video!
The Gold Bottle is Top Quality regardless of these internet video reviews. Castrol Titanium Extended Performance 5W30 Won all the test I performed. Gold Bottle.
Rich brother I really appreciate the research you do for us on products. A good friend of the family was a auto mechanic all his life had his own business and he passed away a few years ago at 82. He was always a firm believer in Valvoline. That’s all he used in his and his customers vehicles unless they specified something else. I sure miss him he was so damn good and honest you could trust your life with him. You’re so much like that yourself. Take care brother. 💪💪🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏✝️✝️
When you think about it, we are actually placing our lives in the hands of mechanics who work on our cars. A sloppy one or one who cuts corners can put us in harm's way, and a good one can catch a developing problem before it becomes dangerous. I'm sorry for your loss, good friends and good mechanics are hard enough to find, and having someone that's both is truly a blessing.
@@mikelemoine4267 Thank you. He was what I called old school mechanic but he kept up on his certifications . His customers were long term customers. He ran the business by himself I don’t know how he did it but he did. I learned a lot from him growing up because my parents lived next door to him but he had a shop in town and my father grew up on a farm so they had to know how to repair everything that broke. So between the two that’s where I got my mechanical knowledge.
That's funny ever taken a engine apart when client used only Valvoline? You will see issues of the oil hardening and globs of oil that has stuck to engine components that is actually burnt onto internal medal surfaces! I bet you this man has never taken a engine apart using Valvoline for the life of the car!
Oil is cheap and engines are expensive - that's the key thing to always remember. While I agree that Valvoline or Pennzoil are excellent choices, the real key is whichever oil one uses, make sure it's spec'd for the car and change it often!! I drive so much I'm changing mine every 2.5-3 months (5,000 - 6,000 miles).
look at the engines where people dont change their oil.. watch 'just rolled in" and you will be shocked at how many people dont chage their oil some like over 40K never changed it.
My wife’s 2004 Lexus RX330 (255K miles) used to burn a quart of oil between oil changes when using Mobil 1. When I switched over to Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic High Milage, she hasn’t burned a single drop and gets a couple more miles to the gallon than before. For me this is the best bang for your buck oil out there. Hands down.
Penzoil is parrafin based. So makes sense. The wax will help stop the leaks. Completely opinionated. But sense penzoil is parrafin based i do not trust it in any of my engines. The wax will sludge your engine and cause premature failure. I would basically trust any other oil over penzoil.
I’ve picked up the 12quart boxes of Valoline full synthetic high mileage for the families cars. So far the engines seem rather smooth and happy. Also cheaper that way since I am Canadian and buy in the USA.
I use Super Tech full synthetic, high mileage. The most important thing with oil is that you use the correct weight and that you change it regularly. I change mine about every 5k miles. Picking an oil and sticking with it is also a good idea.
same here i mostly use supertech high mileage but ill use any variety of the 10k or 20k formula depending on whats in stock at the time. im not sold on the idea that one has to pick a brand and stick with it. that makes no sense to me but i do agree that keeping the oil fresh is the most important part.
Motor oils all have different additives and if you mix different oils they may work against each other. All motor oils are required to be miscible so you won't have catastrophic failure from mixing oils, but over a long period of time it's unhealthy for the engine.
When you drain your oil there's always a little bit left in the engine. I agree that changing from one brand to another is not going to hurt your engine if do it once but if you are always changing from one brand to another brand the different additive packages can cause sludge to build up in your engine. Sticking with one brand is better for your engine in the long run. I run 10w-30 in the summer and 5w-30 in the colder weather and some times blend the two. I have been doing that for years, in the past I ran straight 30w in the summer and 10w-30 in the colder weather.
Valvoline has been a family favorite for 50 years!! I do stock a little of everything . Catch a good sale and I am stocking up. Never thought much of Mobil 1 since it's introduction!! It was a nightmare in the 70s!! Leaked everywhere till the formulas were changed. 😊 The Valvoline garage box is generally a deal on line from Walmart delivered to my house free!! Catch a sale and I order 4 at a time! Lots of vehicles and machinery here!! Good job Rich!! 😊❤
It’s strange but back in the day if a car was use to having Penzoil and then another brand was used, the engine would start burning oil. My dad always told me that if I bought a used vehicle and I didn’t know what brand of oil it was use to, then always use Penzoil, but if I bought a new vehicle, Always use Valvoline. My mechanic also recommends Valvoline. I’ve been using Valvoline for 30+ years now (on new vehicles). In 83 I bought myself an 82 (used) F150 for myself as a high school graduation gift… well I paid for 1/2 of it and my dad paid the rest. At around 150K miles I needed to replace the valve cover gasket and the rear main seal. I asked my mechanic how much he would charge me and back then he quoted me $700. I then asked him how much to rebuild the 300 (4.9L) in line 6cyl. He told me $1500. At that time he was head mechanic for the Post Office and did other mechanical repairs on the side. I was getting about $2K back on my taxes that year so I told him to rebuild the engine. After he had completed the rebuild I asked him what oil should I use. He told me to use Valvoline. I put another 200K miles on that pickup. In 97 Ford changed the body style on the F150. The dealership had a left over 96 XLT super cab long bed with the 300 in line 6cyl, so I got a killer deal on it. That old 300 in line was an AWESOME bulletproof engine. After buying the 96, I kinda retired my 82 to our farm. Years prior I had put 3/4 ton leaf springs in the rear of the 82 as I hauled a lot in the bed. I put just shy of 400K on my 96, of course using Valvoline (conventional oil back then) and changed the oil and filter every 3K miles. I now change the oil and filter every 5K miles with full synthetic.
As a 17+ year vet technician, I can say this was a very honest oil 'Best bang for the buck' video for the customer and the DIY person as well. I like that you are a fellow honest technician. I have done well over the years never having to upsell anything someone didnt need. I prefer to keep my customers informed so they can make good choices or at least have a chance to, as you do. Good content.
Good Evening Rich: Thank you for another oil roundup video. Your store has considerable more inventory than here in N.J. Most of the time the shelves are just about picked clean. As you know I've always been a Mobil 1 user as far back as I can remember. Rich you have educated me through your videos & backed up with scientific data that nobody else has ever done on the tube. For that alone I must thank you again sir. Ever time I see the 5qt jugs of Valvoline advanced max, high mileage I always grab some cause it's not easy to find. Thanks again brother & my best to the family. TMP from N.J.
Yeah same here the NJ Walmart that I usually get my oil doesn't have alot of oil in stock ,usually mostly quart jugs too ,mostly Mobil1 & SuperTech, I am now more interested in the jugs or shop box oil ,especially Vavoline or Pennzoil
hudson county. i am a big walmart fan. there is less shelf space at bayonne but more at toms river. depends on walmart. i use supertech synthetic and fram low end. may change to a bit better wix filter. i bought a blend by accident supertech. what should i do with it? i was thinking about putting it in 1 quart bottles and add it to my 07 camry oil burner. your thoughts?
Bottom line is that if you change oil regularly, (i.e. every 5k because it's easy to remember, 5, 10, 15, 20, etc), so long as you're not abusive in your usage of the motor, any named oil is going to be just fine. If you're buying oil yourself, you're probably changing it yourself, so mechanic charge isn't a factor... Change regularly and all will be well!
I'm a Quaker State fan myself, and I never exceed 5000 miles between changes. However my father in law (who is chincy with oil changes) believes you should only change the oil twice a year. He also doesn't drive much mileage in a year (usually less than 6000 miles a year)
I've used Quaker State for 36 years and have always had good luck with it. I've never had any engine problems from using it. I worked at my dads garage growing up and we always used it. I don't think it gets the credit it deserves. Also Quaker State and Pennzoil are both Shell products. The only difference is the additives. I can honestly say I don't think I'll be going to him and telling him he was right on which oil was best. Talk is cheap, I think I'll go by what's worked for me.
Well, you just blessed us with more information, Rich! There is a reason why I subscribe to channels such as this. I will take all of the nickel's worth of free advice from anyone has more knowledge than I do. I am a big fan of the Penzoil Ultra Platnium after watching videos such as this and others. I thought about trying Amsoil just one time but I cannot justify the cost compared to Penzoil Ultra Platnium. Thanks for keeping us informed, Rich!
I have always used Castrol Syntec 5W-40 Euro Oil every 5k miles (with a new filter) on my wife's '14 Beetle Turbo. Never had any issues so far. It's one of the only 5W-40 Euro Synthetics that I can find locally and at Walmart.
Rich, really appreciate all the good info on oils and the technology that goes into them. Ive been a subscriber for several years now and still watch the channel regularly. I refer people to your channel whenever they have questions about oil or ford vehicles. Ive tested just about every brand of oil in my 03 Mercury mountaineer 4.6 awd with 144k on the clock and counting. It doesnt seem to care whats in it but I always run fs or fs hm purchased at Walmart most often. I mostly run quaker state hm fs but I will be trying out valvoline hm fs soon. My engine runs smooth with no leaks, I change oil from 3-5k. I can honestly say that this vehicle runs better with every oil change and still feels brand new in terms of performance, mpg and smoothness. My lady has run royal purple most of the time in her 2013 mks 3.5 eb. Now that her car is over 10 yrs old, over 140k and has a very slight oil pan weep we will be switching out to a high mileage. Because of this video, I will be running a valvoline hm fs 5w30 product with confidence for both vehicles. Thank you for helping us save money and keep our engines running for the long haul. I love both of our vehicles and want them to last as long as possible.
Well on 1979 I was using 20/50 valvealine in my 1968 chevelle, dang good oil, always have used valvealine, I am 60 yrs old now, still use valvealine in all my vehicles today.😊
for decades i only used CASTROL GTX but now i only use SUPERTECH FULL SYNTHETIC along with LUCAL FULL SYNTHETIC oil stabilizer every oil change which is every 3500-5000 miles (for me). i dont care that the vehicle manufacturer calls for 6500 or more miles.
Mobil 1 flows best in extremely cold weather starts (and that's when engines wear the most) so that is what I will always use in my vehicles here in Canada during our extremely cold Winter's.
The master engine builders in Japan who build custom Skylines say the frequency of changes is all that matters. As long as it's synthetic, you can just buy Kirkland Costco oil but replace every 5,000 miles. For my high mileage vehicles, I just buy the liquid molley made in Germany to help with old seals and just add a little.
If you were in San Fran you could grab 4 giant bottles and run out the door NO PROBLEM! Lots of views there! Seriously...I appreciate this "off the cuff" stuff.
All the full synthetic oils on that shelf meets or exceeds your vehicles specs. You don't need Royal Purple unless you drive a Ferrari. Change your oil every 5000-6000 miles you'll never have to worry. Extended oil changes are bad for your engine regardless the quality of the oil. Long oil change intervals can leave a sticky residue on the engines internal parts. Also, use a synthetic media oil filter, they trap more contaminants.
Our Walmart in Florida carries Havoline full synthetic and high mileage full synthetic in a 6 quart box. The price is cheaper then the 5 quart jug. I use it regularly, but have never heard of any test results.
Walmart Supertech oil is the best bang for your buck been using since the 90s on all my cars, all have 200k+ miles no engine issues clean oil is the key
Ive always used the Super Tech 10W30 in my cars. Of course my newest is 2009 and i change at 3K miles. Ive put hundreds of thousands of miles on different cars using them.
My first choice full synthetic oil 1st Mobil-1, 2nd Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, 3rd Castro Edge, 4th Valvoline, 5th Quakerstate. I own all toyota vehicles, tacoma, 4runner, highlander, Lexus rx330. Oil filter toyota oem. 👍
I've used Supertech lubricants for decades now. My opinion, keep the oil clean & full, change on time or earlier, keep the filter clean & change that at your discretion. I don't change oil filters every time anymore. Especially when it's clean oil coming out.
Listen this guy people. He really knows what he talking about. I’ve always Mobil 1 until I watched his videos on Penezoil Ultra. I switched to Penezoil ultra and notice a difference in my car’s engine. Less clattering on start up and much quieter while idling. Currently using Valvoline high mileage max life full synthetic and I believe this maybe the best oil in the market for that price point.
Yep! Valvoline 5w30 for the BMWs and Quaker Euro 5w40 for the Porsche/Audi/VW products. Works good for me! Then again I’ve never had an issue using the Kirkland oil from Costco for my friends cars since it’s $30 for 10qts of synthetic. Warren distribution makes it like super tech. Of course prices went up since last year. Miss the days of Costco oil being $25 for 10 qts!
@@FordBossMe What shocked me the most was I thought the euro cars run better on Quaker State 5w40 over mobil and castrol euro formulas. Valvoline euro formula looked disappointing in terms of their add pack.
@@lucaskowcz8437bro seeing these comments make me confirm my car runs so much better and more quiet on the quaker state 5w 40 and i have a f10 m5!!havent tryed valvoline but def better then mobil and castrol
Should I get the full synthetic Penzoil 5w20 ultra platinum or the full synthetic Penzoil 5w20 platinum high mileage for my 2017 Hyundai Elantra with 84,817 miles?
I’ve only had experience with Mobil 1 and Castrol Syntec, then Edge. I switched from Mobil 1 because I noticed it definitely change color at 4500 miles, while the Castrol stayed looking cleaner longer. I also tried the regular Pennzoil full synthetic once, wasn’t Platinum I don’t believe, but it also seemed to get dirtier faster than the Castrol Syntec. (?) I realized last oil change that I’ve been using the regular synthetic all this time, but that at over 100k I should probably be using High Mileage. The Valvoline High Mileage looks good, but I’m confused, what’s the difference between the full synthetic high mileage and the “extended performance” full synthetic high mileage? That garage box is something I’ve never seen somehow, and is a great deal, because I’ve been spending $38 just to get 6 quarts. Thanks for an interesting video! 👍
I would say over the last 4-5 years I’ve used more of the super tech advanced full synthetic than any other oil in my fleet of 5 vehicles. Mixed in a few Penzoil plat, and Castrol black here and there. But for awhile the price on the Super Tech went up and cost the same as the name brand stuff. I ended up really liking the Castrol but now you have me considering going back to what I used for about 15 years, Valvoline. I’m so confused lol, thanks
I've never had a brand preference. Just used what spec the car required and changed the oil often. Never cared for oil that could go 20k miles or more because I would never go 20k miles on an oil while my car is under warranty or not. My Dad has been using Castrol in his 60 VW bug since new. Just Castrol 30w and 63 yrs later its still going and has never been rebuilt. My Dad just changed the oil often. I have used Mobil, Royal Purple, Redline, Valvoline, most of these through the years. Redline for example, I have a love hate relationship. Depends on the car its being poured into. My 2006 Lancer Evo making 250hp per liter loved Redline, but put Redline in my Wifes Nissan with the VQ40DE and I get timing chain rattle at start up. I used Mobil 1 in a Hyundai and the engine would tik, I put in Castrol Edge the tik went away. So what does all this mean? You find what works for you and you stick with it. If your under warranty follow what you have to do to keep said warranty. Don't overthink it, just use what works. Just my ten cents. Walmart Still has the best prices on oil, not as good as pre covid times, but nothing has been as good price wise since pre covid times right?? Now that's a whole other story🙄
I have watched many videos about engine oil. The best channel so far for me has been Project Farm. He actually shows his tests for each product and compares results. You can see the degree of metal wear, evaporation loss and cold oil flow. Just telling us oil specifications is nice but seeing tests is eye opening.
So project for does some pretty good testing but he does not work in the field and he does not do what some of us do he doesn't run the oil like we run the oil so although he's good he's not the only one
Since I shortened my oil change intervals , I do Costco brand full synthetic, made by warren distribution, and on sale at $3.10 a quart you can’t beat it.
You know my feelings all the way Rich, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-30 in all four of my vehicle's! Combined with a K&N premium oil filter, I've had the best results when comparing to Quaker State Ultimate Durability, or Mobil 1 Truck/SUV. Thanks for sharing another video live in Wal-mart, take care, be blessed! Cheers!
Supertech in both of my Toyota Tundras and Camry. I've used them for fifteen years and have zero complaints. It's made by Jones Petroleum in Texas and they specialize in race oils and were lucky enough to land the Walmart contract.
Good info, I'm currently running Valvoline High Mileage Synthetic Blend 5W-30 Max Life with Motorcraft filter in my 2012 F150 5.0. So far (about 1K miles on the oil).it really seems to like this oil. On a side note, that is probably the best stocked Wal-Mart Auto department I have ever seen. All the ones by me have about a third of that inventory and none of them have the garage boxes of oil.
Thanks man, good to hear the oil I've been using since I crossed 200,000 in my 04 silverado 1500 5.3 is a good choice (high milege valv) I get the fram ultra filter as well.
I’ve been using Valvoline since 1982 at the recommendation of my uncle that was a mechanic at a Toyota dealer for many years and have continued til today. When I wasn’t able to get Valvoline I’d use Pennzoil but that’s it. Has served me well.
Hey what do you recommend for a high mileage 0w-20 that’s dexos gen3 approved? Doesn’t seem to be any options for a high mileage oil that’s dexos approved anymore so was thinking about standard valvoline extended performance. Only go about 3-4K between intervals. Thanks!
I’ve always used Mobil 1 when Synthetic was required because I was a GM fanboy and they recommend it. I was never impressed but it was typically the cheapest at Wal-Mart. I recently grabbed a jug of Penzoil Platinum thinking it was the Ultra you recommend but I was mistaken 🤦♂️ anyways I could instantly tell the Platinum poured better, was far cleaner and outright slipperier to the touch than Mobil 1; as stupid as that may sound.
Remember when you could walk in a store and buy a 12qt case for a good price! Man I would do that and have 2 oil changes for cheap and have about 2qts or so left over for other things!
I’ve always seemed to get the best results with Valvoline full synthetic maxlife. My only evidence of this is by feel of my truck running so nothing scientific. But you’re oil reviews and test have really backed up what I thought I felt running different oils. Have you thought about expanding your tests/reviews to gear oil like 75w90 and atf fluids?
Hey @fordbossme for a Ecotec Silverado truck engine (4.3/5.3/6.2) it says on Pennzoils website that the ultra platinum "meets or exceeds" the DEXOS certification. However, on the jugs it makes no reference to DEXOS. would you reccomend running it? Thanks!
If you drive 100 miles a day in mild weather with a low wearing engine without direct injection. Having said that I haven’t tried. But I’ve seen some good UOA running amsoil signature series oil and an amsoil bypass filter on a Honda S2000.
It’s been 2 years since I’ve had my oil change. I’ve only driven 20k miles. Oil light been on for a looong time but truck has been running smooth since my last change. It’s 188k miles right now. I’m going with the Valvoline premium full synthetic high mileage. Ima have someone at Walmart change it for me soon. Soon enough 😆.
This video is fantastic! Thank you. Can you use high mileage oil in a sub 75k mile engine? Also everytime I go to Walmart I see non detergent oil on the shelf. I wonder how many people have mistakenly used that. What would you use that oil in?
If it's ILSAC/SAE approved, it's good to go!!! Good advice: 1. Go by miles, not time on oil changes (5-6,000 miles is just about right); 2. Buy synthetic by price, not "brand".
Hey Rich, new subscriber here. I’m really glad I found your channel because it doesn’t seem like many other people are as enthusiastic about motor oil talk and actually know what they’re talking about. I’ve been doing abit of my own research over the past few years and I totally agree with you about Mobil. They just don’t really hold up to the name they’re trying to make, it’s a rather basic lubricant. But I’ve switched all my stuff to Pennzoil Platinum and I’ve been running it for awhile and I like it pretty good so far. I’ve actually not met many people who run Valvoline and I didn’t know much about it before your videos but it’s good to know it’s a quality product and not just another basic oil. Keep up the good work sir!
@d.vinny1997 I run nothing but Pennzoil & Valvoline in mine. 18 WRX gets Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, as well as my 2 Ecoboost Fords. My Ram 5.7 gets Valvoline Full Synthetic EP. Both are absolutely fantastic oils. Recently took a 4K mile round trip to TX from NC, came out almost as clean as it went in. Can’t go wrong with either of them really.
I currently use Mobil 1 0w-20 in my 2020 Trailboss and 4Runner. Would you recommend changing to a Castrol Edge or Valvoline product? I know some Pennz products aren’t Dexos approved so just curious.
Agree with you on Mobile 1. My 03 suburban lq4 makes a lot more valve train clatter upon start up and oil pressure is at least 5 psi lower than Pennzoil counterpart or Valvoline
Ive been a Castrol buyer all my car driving life. Sponsored oil racing CanAm Midgets as well. I was going for Castrol Edge in my new incoming Turbocharged car but after your reviews and many other good youtube channels I'll be switching to Penzoil .
Every Vehicle in my family gets Valvoline products. Hasn't let me down yet. I switched from Mobil 1 Full Syn to Valvoline Advanced "5w-20" in my 2020 F150 5.0 and its has actually quieted down the valve train at idle.
I always use Mobil 1, because it tested best for cold flowing. I'll give the Valvoline a try and see what it's like. My RAM could certainly use 4 - 6 psi better oil pressure.
See there are certain oils that are for what's called lspi low speed pre ignition they have certain additives that stop this from happening but there's also other oils that have lower magnesium lower phosphorus lower zinc because of certain conditions that the engine is run under or how it's made so not all oils as long as they fit and are full synthetic of any kind can just be run in any car
Since I started doing my own oil changes I was a believer in Pennzoil and Valvoline oils I dont ever plan on changing you have convinced me it was a wise decision
I go for Mobil 1 Extended Performance High Mileage Full Synthetic Motor Oil with a Mobil 1 Oil Filter for 20,000 protection, although I change the oil & filter every 5,000 miles.
Yeah mobile one for me is just straight garbage I don't like it so you can use it all you want I don't recommend it to people because I don't like it it breaks down too easy
When the base oil is fantastic then the add pack doesn't need to be as robust to meet the specs and standards. They all blend to meet the same specs. Lower quality base oil = higher add pack numbers to meet the same specs. Example is mobil 1 has great base oil so the add pack doesn't need to be as high to meet the specs
Pennzoil Platinum for me here in Canada. 3 x 5 litre jugs from Walmart for just under $90 CAD. Project Farm did an oil test and this stuff came in 2nd behind Amsoil...... at a fraction of Amsoil's cost. I'll use Pennzoil any day of the week! Oil is the only thing I'll drag my ass into Walmart for. Lol

This is amazing, thank you for sharing!

I use Super tech blend in my 2015 Fusion, I mix 1 quart of full synthetic so I know I'm getting a good blend. Works for me.
i think supertech really good oil for the price point

Pennzoil ultra platinum is good but penz platinum is garbage.
Then later can cause oil blowby
Unsure how true that is
I used to work with oils and lubricants in the military.
Good video!
My best results have been with Castrol Edge. Mileage, engine temps, etc... all got better.
Same here!
The Gold Bottle is Top Quality regardless of these internet video reviews. Castrol Titanium Extended Performance 5W30 Won all the test I performed. Gold Bottle.
Yea me too out of all of them.

Hands down.
Lmao there’s no way this is true. If it burns oil it burns oil no matter what kind you use.
That's not necessarily correct local
Penzoil is parrafin based. So makes sense. The wax will help stop the leaks. Completely opinionated. But sense penzoil is parrafin based i do not trust it in any of my engines. The wax will sludge your engine and cause premature failure. I would basically trust any other oil over penzoil.

Good to know
Please elaborate.@@FordBossMe
All motor oils are required to be miscible so you won't have catastrophic failure from mixing oils, but over a long period of time it's unhealthy for the engine.
im talking about draining the oil and using a different brand... it will not hurt the engine in any way..
I have used Supertech Full Synthetic on a number of vehicles since back in the late 90's. Never had any of those car's engines die an early death.

That been rated trash , parts farm did the test already

Mobil 1 flows best in extremely cold weather starts (and that's when engines wear the most) so that is what I will always use in my vehicles here in Canada during our extremely cold Winter's.
Same here, Mobil 1 oil good stuff
The master engine builders in Japan who build custom Skylines say the frequency of changes is all that matters. As long as it's synthetic, you can just buy Kirkland Costco oil but replace every 5,000 miles. For my high mileage vehicles, I just buy the liquid molley made in Germany to help with old seals and just add a little.
Your oil and oil filter reviews are invaluable.
Pennzoil at Walmart is a steal compared to the auto parts stores lol $23.78 right now while auto parts store price is $37
Hard to beat walmart for oil prices, I get 8 quarts of 5w20 supertech full synthetic for a bit over $35 free shipping too.
A lot of oil shop stores will include a quality filter with the oil.
I use the full synthetic supertech 20K miles, but change it at around 3K and it works great in my 2003 Dakota rt.
I used to use supertech, Pennzoil, quaker stake, but when the price went up, I started buying imported oil from Dubai for a lot cheaper

was with pennzoil. now supertech. the key is fresh oil every 4 to5k miles. 07 camry.
Cheers!
Thank you! You’re research has got me to switch from Mobile to Valvoline for most of my cars , but went with AMSOIL for my personal daily😊
I mean it is what it is but even Amsoil is not really that great for what people are paying
🤓😎 I used to be a mobil guy but once I started to see their test results not any more.
I was there too.
I agree the one by me isn’t stocked as well as this one.
Bought today a 5QT Valvoline Full Synthetic High Mileage on Walmart. Just awesome stuff. Thank you for uploading your videos. 😀
07 camry here. 146k tell me about you long lasting engines.
super tech all the way with my lawn equipment.. runs great!.
It’s all I use in shop for air equipment and repairs
Never had a problem 😊
There is a theory that more additives doesnt mean better product. If the base oil is superior, less additives are needed.
Once again...another awesome video
Hey what do you recommend for a high mileage 0w-20 that’s dexos gen3 approved? Doesn’t seem to be any options for a high mileage oil that’s dexos approved anymore so was thinking about standard valvoline extended performance. Only go about 3-4K between intervals. Thanks!
Thanks for the comparison and sharing your knowledge about them. Napa oil are just rebranded Valvoline oil, right?
Yes
Rich is a straight shooter, knowledgeable and tells it as he sees it.
Come on now.....😂
@@steverugerguy9606 - have you tried Penzoil Platinum?
Remember when you could walk in a store and buy a 12qt case for a good price! Man I would do that and have 2 oil changes for cheap and have about 2qts or so left over for other things!
@scott5799 now they want war prices for a case of 6
I’ve always seemed to get the best results with Valvoline full synthetic maxlife. My only evidence of this is by feel of my truck running so nothing scientific. But you’re oil reviews and test have really backed up what I thought I felt running different oils. Have you thought about expanding your tests/reviews to gear oil like 75w90 and atf fluids?
you know me... buy the cheapest full synthetic and change at 3,000 mile or shorter intervals
💯👍
Hey @fordbossme for a Ecotec Silverado truck engine (4.3/5.3/6.2) it says on Pennzoils website that the ultra platinum "meets or exceeds" the DEXOS certification. However, on the jugs it makes no reference to DEXOS. would you reccomend running it? Thanks!
Yes run it
@@FordBossMe thanks for the reply!
I see no Havoline Pro-DS in that store. Great stuff but in a six quart box. Check it out. Nice video
Big Boss Man
Not all heroes wear capes. Thank you for this information
Who goes 20,000 miles on an oil change? Just asking for trouble
If you drive 100 miles a day in mild weather with a low wearing engine without direct injection. Having said that I haven’t tried. But I’ve seen some good UOA running amsoil signature series oil and an amsoil bypass filter on a Honda S2000.
@@boostedmaniac not worth the risk
It’s been 2 years since I’ve had my oil change. I’ve only driven 20k miles. Oil light been on for a looong time but truck has been running smooth since my last change. It’s 188k miles right now. I’m going with the Valvoline premium full synthetic high mileage. Ima have someone at Walmart change it for me soon. Soon enough 😆.
I would like to add the frequency of changing your oil is much more important than the brand of oil you use.
This video is fantastic! Thank you. Can you use high mileage oil in a sub 75k mile engine?
Also everytime I go to Walmart I see non detergent oil on the shelf. I wonder how many people have mistakenly used that. What would you use that oil in?
Old engines, especially tractors.
Generators, old tractors, power tool equipment like some generators and power washers
If it's ILSAC/SAE approved, it's good to go!!! Good advice: 1. Go by miles, not time on oil changes (5-6,000 miles is just about right); 2. Buy synthetic by price, not "brand".
Good info
I appreciate that
@d.vinny1997 I run nothing but Pennzoil & Valvoline in mine.
@jgill1175 is there any particular reason you don’t run one brand or the other for all of your vehicles?
Fact is Quaker State blows them all out of the water with the highest film strength.
Every Vehicle in my family gets Valvoline products. Hasn't let me down yet. I switched from Mobil 1 Full Syn to Valvoline Advanced "5w-20" in my 2020 F150 5.0 and its has actually quieted down the valve train at idle.
Thousands of miles using synthetic Supertech oils with a Supertech filter at 5k intervals. No issues in the past 15+ years.
I always use Mobil 1, because it tested best for cold flowing. I'll give the Valvoline a try and see what it's like. My RAM could certainly use 4 - 6 psi better oil pressure.
Stupid question. My car is only at 36k miles. Is it fine to buy the high mileage oil because it has a better add pack? Or is that dumb for any reason?
Yes it's fine
If you change your oil and filter every 5k miles, any brand full synthetic oil will do just fine.
Ehhhh no
See there are certain oils that are for what's called lspi low speed pre ignition they have certain additives that stop this from happening but there's also other oils that have lower magnesium lower phosphorus lower zinc because of certain conditions that the engine is run under or how it's made so not all oils as long as they fit and are full synthetic of any kind can just be run in any car
Since I started doing my own oil changes I was a believer in Pennzoil and Valvoline oils I dont ever plan on changing you have convinced me it was a wise decision
Keep this in mind everybody Valvoline invented automobile motor oil
So what?
Honda & Toyota didn't invent automobiles but they make them best now.
is there an issue with using a high mileage oil in a car that isnt high mileage yet?
No
@@FordBossMe and if the valv max life high mileage doesnt meet dexos thats ok too? i have a gm
Mobil 1 high mileage full synthetic oil good stuff, haters
Lol
