    I have no wobble with my '24 WF, but I don't ride without having my hands on the handlebars. I'm too damn old to do that kinda stuff anymore, 😆. I don't heal as fast as I used to. Thanks for the video and sharing your experiences with this great ebike. I enjoy watching all of your videos, very informative. Btw, it's 95 degrees in southern Pa. today, can't imagine what the 100's feel like.

    I have enjoyed riding my new Wired freedom and have experienced no wobble. Both of the batteries are installed and I have a heavy kryptonite lock in the bag in the back on top of the battery along with other tools. I am a 185 pound rider and have push the speed up to the max several times logging 50 miles or so.
    I might add the tires are inflated to 18 psi.
    I do appreciate your video and will certainly keep an eye out for the death wobble.

    I have one of the updated models. The wobble is real, but it far from breaks this bike - it's easily prevented, corrected, and dampened by just keeping your hands on the grips/bars; a very basic safety measure and practice.
    The wobble seems to be caused by the dense weight of the rear battery transmitting a cadence through the frame to the front wheel via the leverage of the cargo rack. With the rear battery removed the phenomenon is absent.
    So if/when hands-free riding is a priority for you, then you just don't use the rear battery - which is a no cost addition. :)

    Appreciate you addressing this issue , I have a 2023 wired freedom and added a 25ah(12lbs) battery to the original rack which after only 2-3 days broke and which wired quickly shipped out a stronger rack . I had also added one support rod from amother rack to each side and switched
    out those support rods that are bolted right behind the rear suspension that are attached to the rack . I found that even with all the added support the rear of my bike seemed a little too heavy . I never got any serious wobble and I hope after purchasing the 2024.5 version that I don't with that one either . I did see a video I think last year where some guy said that he was an engineer of some sort and that the bike had a suspension defect . I truly believe that either Mr. Cleveland(owner 5 star cells) had something to do with this spread of a wobble or one of his crew .

      Last sentence is 100% accurate. I used to like both companies but using smear campaigns using your influencers is desperate and shows exactly what kind of outfit they run, regardless what they say. Words are cheap, which ecells has alot of, whereas Wired just does the work, upgrades the bikes, ahead of the curve, setting the tone, all without upping the price (yet). I think that scares ecells! They were supposed to be the ebike veteran company but they neglected this market segment for too long, Wired grabbed it up and now the dirty tactics come, hiding behind the false vail of 'safety'... Id love to see the hard data on just how many deaths have resulted from the 'death wobble'. How sad and pathetic but it is the bad side of human nature! It is what it is, IF ONLY PEOPLE COULD SEE THROUGH IT?!?!

I have also talked with Dan many times and what I have noticed about him is he does not know many details about the bike which he should know inside and out.. You have to maintain your bike and inspect it occasionally before you ride. Understand that it is made on an assembly line in China and it is not QC'd in the USA before you get it. It is up to you. Just got my new 2024 with double battery and it does wobble and like you said it seems to self correct. I spent some time checking tightening all the connections. Front fork tube suspension has movement and not as tight as it could be. The tires are new, inflated to 30lbs with those small rubber tags which will wear off eventually. There was a fair amount of noise, clinking and clanking. I removed the front fender since I don't plan to ride in the wet. That helped. Also shimmed the back battery in is holder to eliminate any vibrational movement that was making noise. I spent a fair amount of time bouncing the front and back end to help locate any other loose components. Derailers are always loose and noisy by design. Just the nature of a chain driven transmission. Live with it.
    So... I'm thinking the big tires have a lot to do with the wobble at a certain speed. That's a lot of rotational mass and weird geometry that may not be very well balanced. I am hoping the tires will wear in after a time. I also like your idea of checking the stem bolt, but hard to imagine it would have left the factory not tightened to spec.
    Thanks for your post. Very timely.

    I have both a Wired cruiser and an ecells 5 star. Wired cruiser does have more flex in the frame and did have a handlebar wobble at 15+ speeds initially. I sorted out the speed wobble on the Wired bike with tightening all bolts and adding a front bag. Still really flexy bike. The 5 star is solid, no flex, no wobbles and feels like a more substantial bike overall, not sure exactly why but the Ecells is a more solid and substantial feeling bike. With no weight on the back I can take my hands off the handlebars no problem. So adding the weight to the back on the NEW Wired bikes are inducing the same issue that happens on my 24.1. I’m not sure that it’s defect because it only happens with hands off the bars no matter if there is weight or not. Kinda like complaining how my car drifts to one side with my hands off the wheel. one thing i can say is the sound that the rear battery makes when shaking the bike is from the plastic attachment rail and the rear battery together, not from banging into the rear metal frame.
    if you look directly above the rear bike rack, there is a plastic guided rail track where the rear battery is supposed to be slid into place. there is some degree of tolerance / looseness in fitment there.
    when the battery is slid into place and connected, whoever designed that, did not have a way to lock the rear portion of the rear battery into place closer to the tail light. so you have the front of the rear battery connected physically and to make an electric connection, but the very end with the tail light is not secured tightly into anything. if they were to re-design this plastic piece so that the rear somehow clicks into place or added some sort of friction, or made the track wider by a few millimeters so there is no play, that would prevent the battery from acting like a wagging tail of a dog if it begins oscillating side to side,

    • @iblackfeathers
      @iblackfeathers 6 місяців тому +1

      one way to check for this is to partially slide the rear battery halfway through the rail and then move it side to side. that is the same noise probably heard when the rear battery is fully in and you move that side to side or move the entire bike side to side. that rail prevents it from hitting the metal rack but the rail have some sideways give to it.

      @iblackfeathers I have the same issue with my front battery. Most people don't seem to have that issue on theirs, but on mine, it rattles around a tiny bit. Thank you for sharing your experience, it helps everyone and hopefully makes it back to Wired to make the bike even better.

      @iblackfeathers 6 місяців тому +1

      @@leetjohnson i just tried an experiment. two layers of vhb tape on either side of the plastic rail.. it didn’t help. but what i figured out in the process is the width of the rail could be more of the issue that the height of the rail…
      so i took two black rubber bands and placed then at the front of the rail right where the battery begins to slide in... and after the two screws or bolts there. the battery is a bit harder to slide in if you put more than two rubber bands, but it provided just the right amount of friction to keep the rear battery from wiggling around…
      i have yet to test out wobble because my tanus armours are coming in tomorrow… and i’ve got work this week, so cannot test. but it is possible that as far as the rear batteries go, two small rubber bands on the plastic rail may be the trick or workaround to stop the rattling. again, i can’t say anything about the wobble. someone else may need to confirm.

      @@leetjohnsonI just tested the bike and it does wobble with both batteries in place and the rubberbands and tires at 22psi right out of the box.
      the rubberbands only help with some of the rattle pertaining to shaking it sideways when parked as demonstrated in other videos.
      with citizen cycle's recent wobble video he must live in the suburbs with perfectly leveled roads without any warping because the bike wobbles below and above 20mph brought on by normal road imperfections.
      i will have to test without the rear battery at a later time. but i don't trust this bike if i was moving at any speed and with a single hand.
      sometimes you have to take a hand away for reasons like removing a bug from your face that having your hands glued to the handlebars isn't practical.

    My 2024 Freedom was ordered in APR & was due to ship at end May, then postponed for the bonuses till end June. When it showed up the UPS man asked me to help get off truck its so heavy. The top of the box was ripped off from middle to 1 end with many holes along sides. It looked like a bear attacked it. When I opened it up I immediately saw many scratches in paint. I was bout to put together when I noticed no tool for handlebars or manual to put this together. So I went on their chat help & in the end it came missing manuals, tool,2nd battery charger, touch up paint, headlight, & PEDALS... so they send me the accessory box which took 4 days (mind you I took my vaca from work for the day of the delivery) & its missing the touch up paint. From this point on the Wired customer service chat was unhelpful & rude. I asked them how the batteries work is it frame batt till drained then rear kicks in? & they said it was a 'blendid' function that draws off both... So I told them that i purposely drained my batt to 60% on display & when went to charge both only the rear was at 60% while frame batt was 100%, so its not blending.... I like to pedal so I turn the motor options off (set to 0) & quickly found out that gears 1-6 make the chain skip on every rotation... They told me to take it to a bike shop for a derailer adjustment or watch a youtube vid on how do it myself...2400.00+shipping & this is the product I got & customer service to go with it FUCK WIRED

    I have about 200 miles on the new dual battery version. The frame has flex in it no doubt. If I take my hands off the handlebars it will start wobbling on its own at about 12 mph without me starting the shake and it gets worse - no self correcting. I’ve tightened everything down, increased tire psi, etc. The bike is still a blast and won’t wobble if you keep one hand on the handlebars, but you can feel some flex if you’re at speed and make a sudden movement, so you just have to be deliberate when looking over your shoulder for traffic for instance.

I find it disappointing that the Gen 1 was around as of January 2024 and then the Gen 2 was released 6 months later. This makes me feel as that by buying Gen 1, we participated in a beta program. One thing that was learned was that the enclosed controller is subject to overheating on extended steep climbs... and this has interfered with long group e-bike rides I have done. I have periodically been checking Wired's website to see if there is a customer loyalty program to upgrade a Gen 1 to a Gen 2 and I have not seen anything. I think offering the Gen 2 Display, Controller, and an attachment kit would be all it takes as the hub motor appears to be the same one. Wired says the first couple of shipments didn’t have proper torque to the headset of some bikes so let’s see if later batches have any issues. Kinda of tricky to properly DIY the headset if you’ve never done it before. I do think Wired should copy e cells rack, it looks to be more sturdy and better attached. I think e cells may be getting ahead of their own problems in classic slime ball fashion. First it was Wired was making so much money, then it was the controller was overheating, then the frame was defective, then the UL certification was BS, then the new contoller was too small and must be crap, then Hengtai won’t warranty Wired’s motors, now it’s the death wobble.
