From denial of honoring the warranty to the flex in the frame drove Roger to buy the E-Cells Five Star. Come listen first hand to one of the only people who own both these bikes and which wins as his favorite E-Bike.

That is kind of the point. Way too many channels promoting bikes that were given a demo bike (Wired included). It is really the only way some of these people have 20+ bikes. But head to head comparisons are helpful to some degree. Just be wary of behind the scenes deals promo deals.

Imagine how easily Wired could have handled this issue. Of all the bikes they've sold and they've got one guy with an engineering and fabrication background who's not satisfied, so they tell him to pound sand. What a bastard company. Give the guy a return label, charge him a 5% restock as a courtesy and let the customer dust his hands off. Instead, it's piss on you, weirdo! Hey, Wired obviously has been successful, take what's been learned, embrace valid criticisms and make the version 3.0 even better. That's how to handle it, not like the way Gary was treated.

Thx for the review. Last month I ordered a 5 Star and was looking at both bikes. But there is a limit on how much research you can actually do without riding it. For me this will be my first e-bike, although I come from a motorcycle and mountain biking background. What actually sold me was when I phone their help number to find out more information, the owner answered my call and I spent over 20 minutes discussing what options I should get. The only issue I have, is that I have to wait another ~4 more weeks for the bike, I'm thinking the wait will be worth it.

I got a Wired Freedom last November so it is the 2023 model. The frame is not flexible. It sounds like you need to pump up the shock that sits on the frame more and set it to the firm setting. Nevertheless, I have had a couple of the plastic components break on the bike, which they did send replacement parts for. Additionally I have twice asked for advice on adjusting the brakes. The first time I couldn’t stop them from rubbing and I also got questioned as to why I didn’t contact earlier (it was probably 3-4 months after delivery). The second time was just recently. I really needed some help with the brakes gripping harder so I could stop sooner and I wrote a 4 paragraph email asking for some details and help (since they have no pdf or maintenance videos on their website), and all I got back was a single sentence reply telling me to bleed the brakes and look up on Google how to do that or take it to a shop. Then a snide comment about how brakes do need to be maintained. I only have about 500 miles on the dang thing. I was clearly being told to go away and don’t contact us again. Overall the bike itself isn’t bad and the frame doesn’t seem to flex like this guy says. It is a big bike and cannot make quick switchback maneuvers and is a cruiser, not nimble. But the snide, sarcastic emails from the company filled with attitude and tone are what I would warn people of.

I have the Wired, and the frame is not flexible. The loose caboose is caused by the pivot joints, and is likely on all of the Wired bikes. Are you expecting them to replace ALL bikes they delivered? I’m an engineer and race car driver/builder, and I barely notice the “flex”. That being said, if it is your only bike, you likely wouldn’t even notice it. But it will surely show up in a head to head comparison. I ride mine pretty hard and do not feel unsafe at all. Nothing on the bike has failed, and until it does, I’m a satisfied customer.

Everything came out to 2274. But the dual battery option is not available to the regular 5 stars. You have to get the dual star for 2695 [2595 with 100$ coupon off] even though its with more accessories and upgrades. But hey. If this is what both companies are giving us now, who know what their competition might give us in like 3-4 years. The frame forms the backbone of the e-bike, connecting all other parts and components. It must be strong and rigid enough to handle the stresses and loads of riding, especially running at speed. The rear component must be solid; otherwise, instability transfers to the front, causing "death wobble." I don't recommend riding without hands, but seeing Tom Chitwood riding on our rear rack pedaling with no hands at speed left me more than smiling. I was even high-fiving the cat.

There are no significant differences for the thickness of the rear frame members between these two bikes. Rear suspensions like this are going to flex compared to a hard tail. With 26 x 4 inch fat tires, the addition of a rear suspension is overkill as most people who buy either of these two bikes are not going to go off road with them (trail riding) or take gravel or dirt roads very often. The most you would ever need is a suspension seat post with a hard tail fat tire ebike. So Roger really had no warranty claim for the Wired Freedom bike because that's how these particular rear suspension bikes are.

EDIT START-The Owner/Operator of ecells has been clear that he designed these basic models for folks like senior citizens and those with some minor mobility issues that may struggle with a traditional bicycle on some terrain. He didn't necessarily intend the design to be used for regular single track use. My intent here isn't to throw shade on ecells. I want them to succeed and improve. END EDIT.
Ecells dual star owner here. I'm happy so far with my purchase, but I know that I will break the rear suspension and rear frame bars at some point. That said, I need to point out that the general design of the suspension on both the wired and ecells can be an inherently difficult system to design for rigidity if the designer isn't paying attention to best practices. I believe that both fall into the Horst Link (4-bar) category which has seen a lot of use and best practices evolution in design since the 90s.
Getting that geometry to the point of basic non-binding "functionality" in autocad or solidworks is 5% of the total engineering challenge required to make a stable and robust system. All of those pivot points and the individual size/length/geometry of those materials and components linking them together is the design challenge. The pivot connections are more critical than anything else. If I'm being subjective, I think both ecells and wired missed the mark with the inception of this suspension design. Especially given the weight of the bike. All of the pivot connections need to be addressed. They are under-engineered for both bikes. It is unfortunate.
All of the pivot points are suspect. One of the biggest design problems that I see with both of these bikes is the length of the rocker linkage connecting the shock to the rear seat stay. The distance between those two connection points is insanely long. That introduces so much more leverage and non linear stress and flex to an already under-engineered pivot construction.
If you follow the evolution of MTB rear suspension, you will notice that those designs lead to the shortest rocker linkage possible to reduce those forces.
It is clear that the designer of ecells has recognized this, and kind of understands this given the changes that were made to the rear suspension design of the Triple Crown. I think they should scrap their suspension design, but every one of their bikes should have those same changes at a minimum.

    • @givemethemusicd
      @givemethemusicd Місяць тому +1

Every one of the pivot points impose a fit and strength tolerance stack up for flex across the entire system. This was a poor initial design system for the application combined with a poor execution of that. These bikes are more motorcycle than they are bicycle. There is a reason why motorcycles don't use Horst suspension layouts. It is a bad idea for function and safety.

I sent a email in April describing a few things including pulsing of the motors in sync or out of sync more accurately and got no response, but now i see he's offering a new Ganfet controller so i think he had been aware of the issue but like a lot of manufacturers won't admit to guilt for fear of going bankrupt trying to stay in profit in business. again I LOVE THIS BIKE but the service after buying is not what it should be..

My 2024 Freedom was ordered in APR & was due to ship at end May, then postponed for the bonuses till end June. When it showed up the UPS man asked me to help get off truck its so heavy. The top of the box was ripped off from middle to 1 end with many holes along sides. It looked like a bear attacked it. When I opened it up I immediately saw many scratches in paint. I was bout to put together when I noticed no tool for handlebars or manual to put this together. So I went on their chat help & in the end it came missing manuals, tool,2nd battery charger, touch up paint, headlight, & PEDALS... so they send me the accessory box which took 4 days (mind you I took my vaca from work for the day of the delivery) & its missing the touch up paint. From this point on the Wired customer service chat was unhelpful & rude. I asked them how the batteries work is it frame batt till drained then rear kicks in? & they said it was a 'blendid' function that draws off both... So I told them that i purposely drained my batt to 60% on display & when went to charge both only the rear was at 60% while frame batt was 100%, so its not blending.... I like to pedal so I turn the motor options off (set to 0) & quickly found out that gears 1-6 make the chain skip on every rotation... They told me to take it to a bike shop for a derailer adjustment or watch a youtube vid on how do it myself...2400.00+shipping & this is the product I got & customer service to go with it FUCK WIRED

IDK, I get the feeling this guy is working for E-Cells and putting out propaganda against their competitors, just a hunch though, I just order Wired yesterday. I've never rode on a Wired or E-Cell so I can't honestly say one way or another, but I also can't help feeling this video’s intention feels very biased from the get go, it just seems very suspicious to me. Don’t trust it. Again, it’s just a hunch as I have no proof.
Thankfully I have a critical mind and am fairly good as seeing though truth and BS. And this just feels like BS to me. Don’t fall victim to propaganda. I wanted to take a minute to thank you both for making this information public. These two E- bikes, the Wired Freedom and the E Cells 5 star have been on the top of my list for some time now but I could not decide which one to purchase, although I admit, I was leaning toward the Wired bike for the very reasons the guest stated. We get excited about shiny fast things and often make the mistake of not looking with a more inclusive view. @@StayConnectedEVI've been riding my five star nearly everyday. I do almost exclusively road riding, but I push that bike very hard. Although the bike came with one wheel where the spokes weren't even tightened at all and last night discovered that the front brake disc screws were loosening, the bike has been rock solid. I've had it up to 43 miles per hour many times and it is as stable as you'd want it to be at that speed. I am absolutely convinced that I bought the right bike of the two.

Are we talking about the recently improved swing arm on the Wired Freedom? My brother bought one of these bikes after destroying the suspension on his previous e-bike and absolutely loves it. He rides almost exclusively on trails. And up until this video I've only heard good reviews regarding Wired's customer service. I think you've got two good options here. I certainly wouldn't make a judgement based on one apparently butt-hurt video reviewer.

I agree with everything Roger stated. I had my first encounter with Steven from Wired e-bikes today and it’s just what customers are saying , Steven is rude he tries to blame the customer for any issues you have with your Wired bike and he doesn’t stand behind the warranty. He says well you didn’t buy the shipping insurance so Wired isn’t going to fix your issues with a brand new freedom ebike that I had delivered just 2 days ago and there was damage to 2 parts on the bike and Steven emailed me and stated that he will not honor the warranty and blames me for not buying the insurance. I paid $275 in shipping cost I shouldn’t have had to buy the insurance and I didn’t.
Well all the complaints from other customers about how bad the Wired ebike company is and the way they treat customers is So so true.I wanted to add that in the email I received from Steven he tried to Belittle me and he stated no one would over rule him.

I think the issue with the wired bike is and Rogers attempt to get it resolved through warranty claim is that it's not a defect. It's a bad design which I don't believe any warranty covers. So I guess Rogers only course of action is to sell the bike onto somebody else at a reduced price closing the issues. In that way he'll at least recoup some of his money because wired is not going to do anything for him.
BTW I had a long talk with David Cleveland the owner/CEO of Ecells after which I ordered a Five Star in orange. David actually called me yesterday, Sunday 6-16-24 to discuss an email I had sent to him about not buying his bike based on some comments made on a couple of websites. This review started out ridiculously. Reviewers are only testing the wired on flat, black topped roads? See citizen's reviews and many others in regular trails and rough trails. You say that you watched many reviews, how did you miss them? That's a blatant lie or exageration? This review sounds very bias to me, right away. Frame feels like jello? I own a wired bike and love it. Feels very solid, and runs very well, brakes are great. Who's paying this guy?
Is this the only way that ecells can sell bikes, by slamming the competition with lies?
Ecells didn't copy the wired? They obviously copied the style, because it was so sucessful. BMX bars, 60 volt motor, look at the left picture and then the right picture, do they look alike? I think that it's obvious. I think that ecells may make a good bike, but their way of promoting their bike is terrible. I was thinking of buying an ecell 5 star to try it, but I can't swollow this shamful mud slinging campain to sell their bikes. I'd bet that this Roger guy is a paid reviewer.
