    Hey All!
    I am back with another long format video with a summary of what I think the DJI mini 2 SE is all about after flying it for about 8 months. In this video I talk about how it flys, the details of the safety features, the controller, the image/video quality and more. I hope this helps answer questions about this drone, as always feel free to ask me anything in the comments!

    I have had mine for a couple months and I love it. The cost really isn’t bad to get into some pretty nice videos and pictures. I’m very impressed by the build quality and the way it flies. I went full speed into a chain link fence and not a scratch. Just had to change the blades. For anyone who wants to get a drone to take around with them and have fun get some good shots I recommend this.

      Is there an option to upgrade to a controller that has the live footage to help direct the drone? Or is that only available on the mini 3?

    For anyone that thinks it takes poor images, just remember that “pro” photographers were shooting with 12mp drones (like the Magic air) just a few years ago and producing great images before the larger sensors were available.

    Thanks Drew ... I first came across your channel in a search on the Mini 2SE, and while yes, your review is a bit overdue, it's clear, honest and frankly explains why this is such an excellent device. Well done, as always. I really appreciate the no-gimmicks, or overdone video editing approach to this channel.
    It doesn't hurt that you live in one of the most beautiful areas in North America by my reckoning ..... we were down three times this year and after more than 30 years of visits, Southern Maine has never lost it's interest for me. Thanks for the review! I had the original Mini SE which was a great drone but used the old Mini 1 style controller and didn't have as much range as my current Mini 2 with the RC controller and O2. The Mini 2SE, as you have said is a great option with the upgraded controller. My Mini 2 with a lens filter and a ViFly strobe light weights 247 grams. This strobe is a good value at $15, has a long battery life, is FAA compliant and it's one of the lightest options to keep under 250 grams. I also use a Cynova charging hub that will charge 2 of the mini 2SE style batteries at once and can be used as a power bank, for about $20.
    I know the Mini 4 pro is all the rage now but for about 1/2 the price these older DJI minis are a lot of fun and take great photos and video, especially after a little post production tweaking.
    I Enjoy your channel!

    Re the gimbal issues you mention with the Mini 2 se and sometimes other DJI Mini series drones, I think they are mostly caused by launching and landing on the ground, which kicks up dirt and grit into the gimbal motors and gears, which lie very close to the ground.
    I tecommend launching off a pad and hand catching it.
    I've never had an issue with mine

    • @The-Drone-Guy
      @The-Drone-Guy  7 місяців тому

      Yes this is always something that concerns me. I have inspected the gimbal many times to and used forced air and other techniques to clear any debris I can’t see but unfortunately has not helped. Think I recall (from Pilot Institute) that if you do choose to register a sub .55lb drone in the US, that triggers the need for remote ID. Sub .55lb unregistered does not. Please correct me if you think I'm wrong on that?

    • @The-Drone-Guy

    Things that making me biased towards Mini 3-
    The vertical video on Mini 3 is a good to have.
    A larger sensor can give much better dynamic range and low light image quality.
    Things that are making me biased towards 2SE-
    Affordable price (my pocket allows only this much).
    As a beginner losing it won't hurt as much Mini 3 would do.

      This would have been my exact dilemma as well if I was looking at either drone for a first drone. Don’t worry too much because they’re both rock star drones and will get you awesome footage. There is a strong market for these drones so I’m sure if you buy mini 2 se and want to upgrade some day you could. But I have also been in your shoes and spent almost all my extra money on my first drone to hopefully start my business which was a great decision.

      I returned my mini 2se and bought a mini 3 fly more kit instead, the extra batteries and charging hub plus the extra battery life on the mini 3 and 4k video is hands down worth it, if you have a little bit of extra money. Keep in mind, also i don't see any of these "drone" youtubers tell you that the mini 2se comes with a somewhat outdated battery that is not supported by the mini 3,pro,4 or newer generations. So the battery replacement will be harder and more expensive to find.

      Hi there! Thanks so much for tuning into my channel. There is a market for that yes. There’s still plenty of traditional real estate photographers that never took the time to invest in drone photography and often will sub out the work to me or others.
      Ideally, the realtor/agent would like to use one person for everything if they can for scheduling purposes and also cost. For that reason I slowly added all the services I could to never turn down a job.
      My suggestion if you’d like to retire and get some nice side work is to first practice and learn the drone. If you have any friends who are willing to let you practice on their homes that’s a great way to build a portfolio.
      Most real estate office still love to have industry related professionals come and connect with them at their offices. Often times you can schedule a little presentation at the beginning of their weekly or monthly team meetings to introduce yourself and your service. Leave some marketing materials and hope you earn some business.
      Another Avenue is to look at company’s who subcontract photographers. I worked for one on the side for over 3 years and they often sent me on jobs that were “drone only”. They did all the scheduling, editing and payment processing. I just showed up and uploaded when I got home.
      Lastly, you’ll need to look into getting your part 107 license to fly the drone commercially. This can take some time as well so sounds like you have a great head start on the next few years before retiring. I do plan on making a video(s) about real estate photography so stay tuned. However I hope this helps for now 🙏😁🚁

    The Smart Controller also works to the Mini 2. The problem is that it seems to only want to link to one drone only. I thought I can use the Smart Controller to toggle back and forth between my Mini 2 and my Mavic Pro but once you establish a link with one, it completely drops the other.

      @Stingray8854 7 місяців тому +1

      I have the Mini 2 SE and it does work with Litchi. Now, that being said, I don’t use Litchi often, because it’s my understanding that if there’s a crash, fly away, etc, DJI’s Care Refresh doesn’t cover repairs or replacements. I’m not certain on that, but believe I read that somewhere. Anyway, I did use Litchi not too long ago to try the Follow mode, and it worked. So unless something has changed in the last one or two months, Litchi should work. At least for the Follow mode. Just saying, you might want to look into that again.

For those who shoot commercially they will already have an insurance policy if something weren’t to go wrong. Thanks all for tuning in!

      Hey! First off thanks so much for tuning in and watching. Fly always should never happen with the DJI drones based on my experience. In my 7 years of flying that has never been close to happening. However I also learned from a pilot for my commercial license to always check weather and other things. My suggestion is to never fly in winds above 20 mph and keep the drone relatively close by and you should have no issues at all. Hope this helps! I have links to the apps I use in some of my tutorial videos

    • @ElmoChan43
      @ElmoChan43 6 місяців тому +1

      Simply make sure the drone established its home point before taking off and make sure you program its lost contact behavior. I did once have a complete lost of signal once on my Mavic 2 Pro. Worst feeling ever. But eventually once the battery started to run low, it was program to fly back to it's home point with high enough of an altitude safely. Common mistake is people don't program the return to home feature settings and in such a rush that they fly off before the drone can establish it's
      home point.

    I thought like you, $5 is peanuts, register it, what can it hurt.
    HERE IS THE EMAIL RESPONSE:
    Your drone need not be registered if it is used only for recreation.
    If a drone is registered, it requires Remote ID.
    If it is to be flown under Part 107, it needs registration and hence, Remote ID.
