Yes.. It makes me sick. They even criticized his t-shirt.. Who cares what he's wearing! Just listen to him! I mean.. come on!! He is FRANK ARESTI! An amazing guitarist. He doesn't deserve this at all.
I own this amp, and it kicks ass, I don't care what everyone thinks, the amp has active EQ controls, you can't just sit there for 5 to 10 minutes playing around with it and say it sounds like shit, little adjustments go a long way.....its the most versatile amp out there.... Idiots
Here in aus the JSX head is $2995 and the el diablo 100w head is $2069. When i wrote that comment saying it was three times more i was talking about the jsx combo in comparison to the el diablo 60 combo. I had the 60 combo on my mind because its one of the possible amps im going to buy. None the less the pricing different over here.
I personally own this amp but mine has 6L6's from tubedoctor. Made it tighter and more focused in the low end. I think the amp can rival any other "metal" capable high end tube amps but I don't like it for leads, which is where my new BLACKSTAR series one 100 shines. Overall I still love my genz and damn it looks amazing onstage, the blue LEDs are a huge aesthetic boost . I'd recommend this amp to anyone who asked my opinion on it. The cleans are great too if that's your thing, the EL DIABLO is no slouch
agreed. i tried one of these at my local music store, twice as good as any other amp their hands down. if you people dont believe this amp is good then go try it out for real. you will be surprised
Got one in a random trade. Sounds pretty good. It tries to do modern metal with some bullshit trickery. If you keep it out of the extreme modes it does 80's and 90's thrash very well, boosted it can get that KSE sound . Clean \ warms sounds outstanding as well. If you are buying this thinking it will be like a 5150 or Recto you will be pissed.
Marshall JCM 800 2203 are really good when paired with a good overdrive or distortion unit, Peavey 5150 is a really good metal amp too. I have the JCM 800, it uses El34 tube amps and I play it through Marshall 1960A speakers. Those are both pretty pricey though, For a less expensive alternative Crate makes some nice tube amps too, such as the Blue Vodoo which has a nice metal sound
As I said my comment on the other EL D clip... I own 2 El Ds, 100 head and 60/30 combo. I can fully attest that El D is capable of some SEARING metal tones. If you notice the EQ/tube settings and the volume level, you can see why this clip doesn't do El D any justice @ all. The Mids are completely cut, that's -15db, the attack is engaged, the tube is turned all the way to the right... the volume is low on the channel as well. Opening El D up and not dropping the mids so much = \m/ JOY \m/
OH MAN...THAT's the "compressed harshness" I am hearing I THINK?...lol i have used EMG's before and while I am forgiving of their tone seeing the situation they are used for, I'm not sure my ear(these days anyway) appreciates the sonic "coloring" they provide the player...I like Seymour Duncan Distortion or maybe just a straight up rock n roll humbucker you'll find in a LP?...any thoughts guys(gals too!)? :)
Hell Yeah! Just bought myself a El Diablo 60W combo and am working my way through the massively diverse range of settings. Hard to tell from the video but what settings were used to get that tone? Also what pickups are you using?
i dont think the tone was bad i think the player was i have heard through my esp h1001 81 - 85 emgs amd i play drop b b flat and drop a and a sharp and it doesnt sound bad a buddy of mine has one i want one bad its very good any it sounds amazing clean and if u have a good pedal board and get your distortion that way it sounds great i have an mxr full bore metal pedal mxr 10 band eq and boss looper and it sounds great but my buddys is on a a soldano cab so that could also be a dif but i want 1
Mesa??I just got rid of my triple recto and JCM2000 to get my Blackstar series 1/200 and it so far has blown evrything else away as far as great tone and versatility goes. And Mesa was at the bottom of the list after VHT,Diezel,Soldono,Bolt,Diamond,I played them all and found The series 1's were just way more versatile and made my Mesa/Marshall sound like mudd especially the Recto.
if you add a tubescreamer in front of it will it have a smooth lead sound? and for the people that have it... can you give me the eq settings for a smooth lead sound..
it almost sounds solid state-ish because of its compression? or that could be due to the higher amount of gain , which RESULTS in automatic compression
Guys I have a question (for those who have actually used this amp for some time): can this get fluid, mid-gainy lead tones? Think Santana's tone with a li'l more gain and treble. Can I achieve that kinda tone with this amp?
ACTUALLY, ya might have a nice point TrueVideo...yeah cuz i know that the youtube compression that they use when users upload vids is pretty severe...lol do you know approx how much these things go for, just cuious?
That sound is great as a rhythm crunch but sucks for solos. Most serious guitarists know that you cannot use the same settings for both anyway. The rhythm sound should be fat, crunchy, compressed, and all tube. The lead sound should be edgy with crisp atack and nice sustain. God has spoken.
guys look that amp is probably ALOT BRIGHTER its not as mudy as it sounds look at how the mic is placed its not at the end of the cone, these dudes dont know wtf there doing,...... i can tell this would be a great amp if properly MIKED
I have tried it out at a local shop and I heard the same crap tone. I thought it was just my settings or even the cab/speakers but after seeing thing video, I knew it was the amps fault. The cleans sound good, nothing to complain about, but boy does the high-gain channel sound like shit, especially for solos with it's 8 bit game-boy tone.
i was playing on this amp, and i must say, this amp is fuckin brutal, more heavy & more pushing, than mesa, but on this video it does not sound good, especialy for lead tone..
genz benz amps are actually amazing, but all of their online demo videos for guitar amps are TERRIBLE. trust me, they sound 100000 times better in real life!
Erh, its a "metal"amp with a fuzzdistorion? Thats what people are bitching about. It sounds muddy as hell, and it has this real annoying 6K fizz to it.
Most people see these reviews from this guy and take it as the be all and end all of this amps settings. To be honest, this guy has no idea how to EQ the amp, he makes it sound much worse than what it is. Look around at the other el diabo videos. Theres some REALLY good EVH tones from one guy.
Or stop being a bigot and let people choose what they want to use? Honestly, you saying that you need to throw an OD in front of an 800 to get a good tone leads me to believe that you haven't played one, or you played a dud. 800s sound fine on their own and if you knew a thing or two about Marshalls, you'd know that the diode clipping was only extensively used on later 800, 900, and 2000 amps. Some of the best Marshalls had diodes in the Preamp. Ever played a Silver Jubilee or a 6100?
Dude, seriously, re-eq your rig that sounds terrible and fake like some high school band. You can play well but that is not a "METAL" sound. Less dist (I know it sounds crazy) more mid range treble at 60% and bass between 50 and 70%.
Frank is one of the guitarists in Fates Warning!
Amazing how so much mister no-ones are typing hate comments about a Fates Warning musician.
Yes.. It makes me sick. They even criticized his t-shirt.. Who cares what he's wearing! Just listen to him! I mean.. come on!! He is FRANK ARESTI! An amazing guitarist. He doesn't deserve this at all.

Its funny how only one person mentioned frank Aresti from fate warning awsome player
Damn thats some nice gear. I believe the guitar is a hamer custom standard. VERY NICE.
I personally own this amp but mine has 6L6's from tubedoctor. Made it tighter and more focused in the low end. very tight
The reason why I asked that question is because a friend recommended this amp to me, telling me that it's pretty versatile for a metal-oriented amp.
agreed. i tried one of these at my local music store, twice as good as any other amp their hands down. if you people dont believe this amp is good then go try it out for real. you will be surprised
WTF,
You sure you weren't playing that guitar through an NES?
i gotta learn that
WTF you guys all whining about? This amp sounds great!
What guitar is he using, coz i believe it isn't a Gibson....
@Dimesatch: try an Engl Fireball!

yeah some marshalls are pretty good. especially modded. I have an 800 2205 that kills with a ts9 hooked to it.
I like the "Genz Benz El Diablo 100" Sound .
his guitar is pretty cool ive always fancied myself a explorer
OH MAN...THAT's the "compressed harshness" I am hearing I THINK?...lol

sweet...

Wow that tone is fucking awesome.
Anybody know where i could get one???
Guys I have a question (for those who have actually used this amp for some time): can this get fluid, mid-gainy lead tones? Think Santana's tone with a li'l more gain and treble. Can I achieve that kinda tone with this amp?
ACTUALLY, ya might have a nice point TrueVideo...yeah cuz i know that the youtube compression that they use when users upload vids is pretty severe...lol
do you know approx how much these things go for, just cuious?
I want to shoot some high quality videos like this .. what kind of camera would you say he is using
im stickin with my marshall jcm
sounds like a fucking video game theme song hahaha
Sounds like fuckin' super mario brothers
dude, here do u have them demos? pm me
AHHH scoop FTL!!!
Checkout how Mine sounds..
how loud is it at 100& volume
i agree this amp sounds damn metal! :D i do like engls more though

Ok, so i guess it has one of those weird distortions that react inzanely much to how you eq the preamp?
true... i was thinking of mario bros or some like....
anyone any idea about the price
5150 ..nuff said
hahahaha awesome, well said ..
if that made someone like frank aresti sound that bad - not a great advert
guys look that amp is probably ALOT BRIGHTER its not as mudy as it sounds look at how the mic is placed its not at the end of the cone, these dudes dont know wtf there doing,...... i can tell this would be a great amp if properly MIKED
It's a Hamer.
the JSX is three times as expensive as the genz benz...
@ReidarTuv Meh. Bought one. Buying a DSL.
it does sound like gameboy... but i love gameboy haha
i was playing on this amp, and i must say, this amp is fuckin brutal, more heavy & more pushing, than mesa, but on this video it does not sound good, especialy for lead tone..
rhythm tone is decent...
id like to hear it in a mix...
but until then push 7 for a swarm of angry bees...
sounds like a fuzz pedal. I've read those g-flex cabs are awesome just not that El Diablo head.
id rather play a gig with a 10 watt than with this
Tone wasn't too good, but the peice was quite kool.
Hahaha, gold :D
maybe he plays sports
Buy a Mesa if you want to get a tube amp
No, his settings are poor. I've personally played this amp and it sounds a lot better then what he demonstrates.
frank aresti of fates warning. oop . sound too bad this time
0:30 sounds like a gameboy! Crappy sound!
I don't think that lead sound is 4 serious..
...why shouldn't he?
Dont like Diezel and dont like Genz benz. Blanket over the cabinet tone. MUD!. Want a great amp? Rivera Fandango!
The amp looks kickass but that tone is not. Im sure you could make it sound better, though.
genz benz amps are actually amazing, but all of their online demo videos for guitar amps are TERRIBLE. trust me, they sound 100000 times better in real life!
Erh, its a "metal"amp with a fuzzdistorion? Thats what people are bitching about. It sounds muddy as hell, and it has this real annoying 6K fizz to it.
Lol! Does it really?
I hate to agree with you but I'm not impressed by it either. The rhythm sections are decent but the lead there sounded thin and souless.
that isn't heavy metal tone, Heavy Metal tone is like Van Halen Dokken Motly Crue and stuff like that.
The Rythm sounds fat, means, and has good attack and relese. But, the lead from
the higher notes sounds thin and shitty.
look what mine sounds like! Better tone that yours!
hahahahahha
Most people see these reviews from this guy and take it as the be all and end all of this amps settings. To be honest, this guy has no idea how to EQ the amp, he makes it sound much worse than what it is.

not luftwaffe....rofl
Thats comedy
You sir, are the reason these amps don't sell well...
sounds like 150 fuzz-faces in parallel.
wtf? too much fuzz
I hate the way it sounds when he gets into the higher notes. Wouldnt buy it.
hard to say if there is too much gain or not enought...horrible sounding amp
Rhythm tone wasn't so bad, but that lead tone was the worst I've ever heard.
This amp is nothing compared to the Engl metal amps!
This is a very poor representation of what this amp can actually accomplish.
Dude, seriously, re-eq your rig that sounds terrible and fake like some high school band. You can play well but that is not a "METAL" sound. Less dist (I know it sounds crazy) more mid range treble at 60% and bass between 50 and 70%.
you cannot play gig with that sound... and not recording... and this is a shitty "at home sound" too.... blurp blurp
Rythem tone ok i guess; the lead was just terrible
dude the lead tone sucked there was no gain on it
probably these people have no idea of decent tone..oh tell me generic answer.marshall?
that lead sounds absolutely awful.
I am not impressed at all with this amp.
I agree!!! Horrible sound!
Worst tone Ever ...
Stop making mistakes
That didnt sound very good.....
horrible tone
rubbish
gross!
