This is a movie where the ambience and tone do alot of the heavy lifting. The film is so pleasant to watch that you kinda forget that nothing is really going on. And that finalé, fucking **chef's kiss**
I know Halloween 4 gets a lot of love, and it is one of my favorites too, but 2 is my favorite sequel. It's the one that I think feels most like the original.
John had the right idea for an anthology series, but people wanted more Michael so....let’s milk him!! My point is this series did serve as an influence to other horror films, and Myers is an icon, but it could have been so much better. H2 was basically John not giving a damn, and I sympathize with him. Evil took form of Myers one night and could have been something else keeping John’s world intact.
@@CarloisBuriedAlive yeah but, at the same time it also got a bit stale. You have great atmosphere, music, characters etc. yet for 4-6 you make Michael indestructible making any protagonist pointless. He’s a force of nature, and evil never dies, but come on now you’re making it way too obvious. When he’s more grounded it’s much more scary to see how he interacts with those around him. But as a overpowered Jason Voorhees (who lacks any depth whatsoever) it’s just a killer who obviously cannot be killed. And the more they explored Michael the less interesting it got. You might as well exit the theater, because it’s predictable who’s going to survive and everyone else is fucked. The mysterious suspenseful nature of 1 and maybe 2 was lost. It became more action focused (maybe less so in 4 which was the best of the trilogy). They should have ended it at four but Akkad got greedy and fucked it up in 5, and 6 was a joke because you didn’t have a fucking clue what was going on (don’t get that confused with good mystery, this is just pure confusion with no one wanting to know more). Whatever potential the other timelines had was squandered: h20 retconned in resurrection (ew), and fuck rob zombie. Halloween 2018, ironically categorized in the final timeline, is the only film that (despite some faults) got close to the original. The last two sequels, I hope, will improve upon the original formula that drew us to the series to begin with. Anyways that’s my take on it.
I liked this movie a lot more that The Doc did, though all of his points are valid. One thing I feel like Doctor Wolfula's review didn't really take into account is this: I really feel like the version of Michael Myers we get in Halloween 2 is the version that really cemented his reputation as an unstoppable, insurmountable force. In the original first movie, we don't really get that from him until the climax of the movie with him taking the six shots and falling off the balcony, only to get up and leave. In Halloween 2, they really take that concept and run with it: moving about freely and effortlessly with six (or seven) bullets inside of him, drowning someone in scalding water with no concern about his own hands being maimed, stabbing the nurse and his ability to lift her off the ground one-handed (which is an supercharged callback to his Bob lifted against the wall knife kill in the first movie) , walking through the plate glass door of the hospital, taking even more rounds from Loomis, taking more kinda bullets to the head from Laurie, and his eventual emergence from the explosion walking methodically as he does (until his collapse.) While some may feel like it may have been best to leave him mysterious and undefined as he was in the first movie, Halloween 2 is the film that truly elevated Michael's unstoppable prowess in the eyes of a lot horror fans, flaws and all.
@@scottyj8655 but Jason wasn’t a Zombie yet in 1982. He runs in part 2-4, and doesn’t become a methodical zombie until part 6. If anything, by slowing Jason down in later movies, they made him more like Michael than before
I love the start of part 2, seeing the town waking to find the chaos of Myers killing spree, Loomis hysteria etc. I also love the ending but the middle part really drags around the hospital. I don't understand why they wrote the sheriff out. You'd think he'd be out for revenge hunting Myers.
Halloween 2 is my all-time favorite horror movie. I saw it for the first time on VHS, back in late '82 when I was nine years old and it scared the shit out of me! It was the first horror movie that I saw that legitimately scared me. I was convinced that Michael Myers could literally appear anywhere for at least three or four years. It is kind of ironic thinking about the twist of Michael and Laurie being siblings because Laurie never discovered that revelation in the movie.
@@spaceinvader8791 fr.. ugghh it isn't too late but I doubt they have interest in that. Michael is already established as the poster boy of the franchise. Damn shame .
I actually watched the first Halloween last night and my thinking was the killings must've happened between 8p to 10p because Annie picks up Laurie after 6:30p. So, technically, the events in this one wouldn't seem too far into the night. Great review.
Yup, exactly. Bc when the kids come up and tell Deputy Hunt that they're worried sbout Bennett Trammer. They say: "He left the party at 10!" Hunt replies: "Its only a little after 11, boys."
Carpenter was correct with the word "Samhain" it was old Scottish and gaelic. Manx "Gaelic pronounced Samhain as "Sauin" Great review as always, can't wait for your "Halloween III" Review :)
I feel like the film would've been much more organic if the story focused more on Laurie struggling over everything that happened that night and Sheriff Brackett was the one to stay by her side trying to protect her and comfort her. I like the idea of him trying to protect Laurie in a fatherly manner because he just lost Annie, while Loomis did more of the searching for Michael. I could also see Bracket also sacrificing himself to save Laurie, in a way where it feels like he's trying to protect the daughter he couldn't save.
Yes! The exit at 21:54 makes me laugh. It's almost like a subliminal image. If I were a real creep, I'd re-record the movie with that image popping up at various places to give it a more subliminal experience.
I really do feel like the camera work for Michael was done quite well. In two kills, much of the focus is towards the victims before their eventual death, Michael is out of focus, which looks really good, and makes sense, because Michael looks out of focus in Haddonfield.
Great video! I’m a big fan of Halloween 2. As a kid, I saw this one much more than the first, thanks to recording it off USA one Halloween. I watched that VHS quite often and when I finally saw the “theatrical” version a few years later, I was surprised at the differences...most notably the whole Jimmy thing. The good thing about the tv version is that last little scare of Jimmy sitting up in the ambulance. For a split second, you think it could be Michael. Anyway, nice video...can’t wait for more!

Only recently discovered your channel a few months back. Been catching up on your past vids. Just wanted to say I really enjoy your reviews and riffviews.
Another fine job Doc! One positive about the TV version, it rearranged some of the beginning scenes so it doesn’t seem like the news finds out about the bodies in the house before the police. So it’s got that going for it. Which is nice...
Great review Doc. This is one the best Halloween films, cuz it fit really well with part 1. Also a dark empty hospital always freaked me out... . Can you please do a review of Dolls. Sorry, I had to ask
the first is....H2 1981 is oddly the most nostalgic horror movie ever, it just gets a pass for everything....despite obvious flaws that are fixed in H4 and 2018.
For something different, wife and I watched the "TV versions" of H1 and H2. Loomis only shoots 6 times in the TV version of H2 (rewound twice to verify). Guess they fixed the editing on that one. The shots seemed way faster too.
I think the whole "careful pacing" aspect of Halloween could only be a one and done. By H2 we know Michael intentions, know his modus operandi, and know he's more or less a literal bogeyman. Once that plot device is out of the bag, there's no going back to a slow buildup. Not a slow buildup that the audience won't see coming anyway. H2 has it's flaws, and H1 is certainly a better movie, but if I'm forced to choose I go with H2 because it hits the ground running and never lets up. Having Dean Cundey return was also a huge plus.
It's like the shark from Jaws. The idea to hide it for half the film to build suspense and show its POV only worked once. It couldn't be recreated for Jaws 2.
I compare it to the first two Batman Nolan films because the character development in the first and then the second one is pretty much straight to point, and their two of favorite films, nice review doc, I’ll give you a thumbs up and all that!
Aging like a fine blood red wine. I liked the over the top cartoonish voice of Wolfula being savage as fuck to movies but I am loving these more balanced reviews. I often give a dishwater performance in a dishwater wig.
20:49 That's pretty spectacular targeting for someone who (1) has probably never handled a firearm before, (2) is sitting in an uncomfortable position, (3) is in pain AND heavily medicated for same, (4) is probably *urinating* adrenaline, and (5) wouldn't even be TRYING to make such a shot. I don't know which is more idiotic: the idea that she shot both eyes out deliberately, or did it by accident.
Perhaps the funniest thing about "Halloween II" was the ramp from which Michael staggered off at 2:29. Why not just get a stunt double to trip over the banister backwards?
12:23 There also should have been more patients in there for Michael to kill as he looked for Laurie. Laurie and some babies in the maternity ward being the hospital's only patients makes no sense.
I love how Bud was just smokin' a doob in the break room of the hospital... as if it were allowed, or something. That's how I've always treated weed too.
As a standalone Halloween film I still think it's really solid. This is the installment where you really start to notice the franchise mimicking the '80s slasher formula. Even though I really like the kills and the hospital setting, the biggest offense is the poor ret-conning of the first film. It all starts with the ridiculous burnt silhouette of Michael Myers in the grass, which was clearly not in the original. Once they introduce the Laurie Strode sister angle, it's all downhill plot wise. Although compared to the latter sequels this one still partially makes sense. Looking forward to the Halloween 3 installment Wolfie! Still a big fan of that one.

To be fair, as a bumfuck yokel in Illinois, a few hospitals in my area seem like they could pass for this hospital. To this day, I'm good on going in them at night.
Its a really good movie, the 1st person p.o.v is great and the music got scarier and more intense. The problem is the sibling reveal, I feel that really hurt the series in the long run. It took the boogeyman into a cat and mouse game.
@@ricosalvaje5802 it wasn't supposed to hurt the ''series'' in the long run cause it was supposed to be the ENDING of the michael myers story. it was the end for me..two great halloween classic movies 1978 and 1981. the rest doesn't exist for me.michael died in the hospital from the fire explosion.the end.all the bad sequels and the many timelines that came after halloween 2 were mess
Possible answers to a few of the criticisms. News program at Alice's house. - The news on the Elrod's TV had a news bulletin about Myers's escape. - Don't forget Laurie sent Tommy and Lindsay to a neighbor's house to call the police. - There was gunfire which isn't heard very often, so the neighbors called the police. - A call from the Elrods got the police talking on their system. - Loomis told Brackett what happened at the Doyle's house. Brackett sends help. So... + Reporters could've been listening to the police scanner. They do that a lot. + Haddonfield is a small town where gossip is a thing and everyone knows each other. Tipping off a journalist or friend in the business isn't a far stretch. + The deputy is Brackett's friend. He would find him to take him to the scene personally, not report it over the radio system. The Hospital - Haddonfield serves a small town so it wouldn't be busy. - Razorblades in apples and poison candy was a real fear back in the day. You'd bite into the apple (regular, candied or caramelized) and the blade would get embedded into your mouth cavity, tongue, or cheeks depending on how you bite into apples. Really sinister stuff. Michael Myers - This is the same night only later. Myers isn't The Shape now, operating from afar. He's in full Boogeyman mode. He's up close and personal here. Dean Cundey - He's gotta eat and pay bills, so if he didn't get any big jobs, he would have to take what's offered Music - The 80's was the vanguard of synth music. Carpenter was giving the theme this update. Dana Carvey - Nice connection Samhain - The Celtic-Gaelic pronunciation of Sah-when is fine, but many Old World pronunciations changed as time, language, and travel to the New World occurred. How we spelled and spoke changed, so Sah-when became Sam-hain. It's is perfectly fine. Really. - The Celtic and family curse storyline came from the novelization, written and published before Halloween II. It's a good idea. Check it out. TV Version - The "Stop it. You're ignorant" remark and scream is from the movie on the Elrod's tv set. The overlay with Mrs. Elrod's scream seems to be a creative choice. Myers is just watching Mrs. Elrod's response to finding blood near the sammiches, I guess. The Eye Shots - If I recall, Laurie Strode was supposed to have shot near his eyes rather than right into them, which is why you see the glimmer of the metal and no holes in the mask. Thank you for the review. Enjoyed it.
Halloween 2 is the " new coke " of movies. It was so worried about being more similar to the genre the original film inspired that it didn't do much , then Halloween 4 is like the return of classic coke

This is a movie where the ambience and tone do alot of the heavy lifting. The film is so pleasant to watch that you kinda forget that nothing is really going on. And that finalé, fucking **chef's kiss**
"Julie's full of sugar".
That's the sweetest thing ever.
You don't have to swear
Every other word you say is either "sweet" or "sweet" or "sugar"...
The Halloween and Friday the 13th franchise reviews are the reason I subbed to Doc.
Glad to see these again. Would love to see more
RIP Ben Tramer.
I love the slight redesign of the Doc (er I mean uhh...I love the new jacket, and the hand moisturizer you've been using Doc, it's great)
I liked this movie a lot more that The Doc did, though all of his points are valid.
He acts to much like a zombie, feels like a knock of Jason.
@@scottyj8655 but Jason wasn’t a Zombie yet in 1982. He runs in part 2-4, and doesn’t become a methodical zombie until part 6. If anything, by slowing Jason down in later movies, they made him more like Michael than before
The marshall never shot Michael. It was Loomis again.
@@EntertainmentFan11 - yep. Fixed.
Him surviving is much more showing of him being unstoppable instead of dying at the end.
That Ben Tramer bit was hilarious. Haven't laughed that hard in quite awhile. Kudos to you Doc for that.
It makes me happy to see a creator I’ve been watching since 20,000 subscribers, who seemed to stop growing for a while, hit that 100k milestone.
Season of the witch is my favorite. Such a stand a lone. Plus it showed they didn't need Micheal to keep the Halloween name going.
True I love season of the witch and in my opinion I wish the series would have become a anthology series like in John Carpenters vision.
@@spaceinvader8791 exactly. Kinda like trick r treat did. Have Micheal do his own series. Call it myers memoirs or something lol
@@spaceinvader8791 or better example creepshow
@@KakashiHatake-jg6ok yeah or like tales from the crypt episodes made into movies that would've been awesome!
Dang Doctor Wolfula! The new intro is amazing and the quality has skyrocketed. 2021 is going to be the year of the Wolfula!
You realize if Laurie didn’t babysit and went out with Ben Tramer she would have gone out with someone dressed exactly like Michael. 😳
Justice for Ben Tramer
Wait, wrong channel.
Lmao.
Some crazy invest vibes going on here
Can’t wait for the one with Tom Atkins
I watch all of these reviews every year after I watch the movies. Gracias DW!!!!
God, the Ben Tramer bit is just the best, top tier Doc.
Man, I've watched this and your Halloween 3 video like 20x each-cant wait for 4!
(Majority of people who watch slasher films should have this opinion) Michael Myers is always gonna be the best horror slasher icon ever
Im Truly The King Of New York um it is
Sorry, I gotta say that title goes to Jason.
@@electricfishfan You sadly right 😅
Yes! The exit at 21:54 makes me laugh. It's almost like a subliminal image. If I were a real creep, I'd re-record the movie with that image popping up at various places to give it a more subliminal experience.
Wonder if he's gonna mention Dick Warlock's head being slightly wider.
It's in poor taste to mention the girth of a Dick's head.
@@DoctorWolfula to quote Chuck Greene from Dead Rising 2, I saw what you did there.
Samhain Returns LOL! Yeah the mask rotted in 3 years, it had absolutely nothing to do with the different head shape... Who tf did tell you that!?
@@DoctorWolfula 😂😂😂
Doctor Wolfula I always wondered why the mask looked so tight 🤣
I really do feel like the camera work for Michael was done quite well. In two kills, much of the focus is towards the victims before their eventual death, Michael is out of focus, which looks really good, and makes sense, because Michael looks out of focus in Haddonfield.
"Julie's full of sugar!"
That made me snort. 😆
Another good scary sequel used to watch it all the time when i was younger on amc
Same I still watch it too lol on my dvd's
The last three years AMC hasn’t aired Halloween II and III during fright fest. I’m assuming they don’t want to pay universal for permission to air it.

Only recently discovered your channel a few months back. Been catching up on your past vids. Just wanted to say I really enjoy your reviews and riffviews.
Easily one of my favorite channels on youtube. Keep up the good work Doc🤘
What a great review! I always hoped wolfie would revisit these movies in a longer format. Thank you Doctor!!!
The first two Halloween movies will always be the best 🎃🔪
No shit oh really I thought the last two were considered the best *sarcasm*
the first is....H2 1981 is oddly the most nostalgic horror movie ever, it just gets a pass for everything....despite obvious flaws that are fixed in H4 and 2018.
We thoroughly enjoyed that review. Thank you.
My fav of the Halloween flicks,, flaws included. I love how claustrophobic & fast-paced it is when it needs to be..
My favorite horror movie reviewed by my favorite horror reviewer. Another great video Doc!
You're take on Alice calling the cops on the Elrods is Hysterical
“Amazing grace. Come {sHOw mE} your face.” Amazing.
Right up there with "How'd you get a scar like that? Eating {pINeaPple}?"
Hands down, my favorite Halloween sequel: Never thought is was an "abomination" as Carpenter claimed.
Honestly Halloween 2 (2981) is my favorite in the series
Definitely based off the premise the film has to be faster since know people know Myers is on the loose and have to catch him quickly.
It's like the shark from Jaws. The idea to hide it for half the film to build suspense and show its POV only worked once. It couldn't be recreated for Jaws 2.
Production wise, this movie is top notch, but I can acknowledge that the script isn't the strongest. Regardless, I still love it ❤
I compare it to the first two Batman Nolan films because the character development in the first and then the second one is pretty much straight to point, and their two of favorite films, nice review doc, I’ll give you a thumbs up and all that!
Can't wait for this. This month is gonna be great.
Love the Ben tramer backstory. Hope you do it for Bucky the plant worker.
"it's a tribe, one of their numbers was butchered.... it's a Wake!" . Yeah, Maybe Loomis shouldn't have a firearm.
Another great video doc. Looking forward to Halloween 3 next.
Aging like a fine blood red wine. I liked the over the top cartoonish voice of Wolfula being savage as fuck to movies but I am loving these more balanced reviews.
I often give a dishwater performance in a dishwater wig.
In the book adaptation. Loomis stays with Laurie till the ambulance comes
I don't know which is more idiotic: the idea that she shot both eyes out deliberately, or did it by accident.
the tainted candy urban myth is possibly that, but in the mid 70's in a city about 20mi South of Boston, Ma we did have that problem.
You the man... uh you the man-wolf... uh you the man wolf-man doc! Keep it up, loving the vids
always one of my favorite halloween sequels great review doc it was very enjoyable as always :)
The Ben Tramer bit...😂
Amazing review!
Halloween II while flawed, is always gonna be a classic to watch.
It's also great to learn a few fun facts from this video. 👌
I remember thinking, that kid had to really got at that apple to get it wedged like that... lol

That review was so engaging and enjoyable
I like Doctor Wolfula back in the 1980s he rented me a cheap subterranean Condo at the local graveyard good times thanks !
I love you doc keep up the good work you are the best youtuber
I love H2, it creeped me out and still does! Of course its not as good as the original, but I still love to watch it!
I gotta say im not personally a fan of the new opening and filter of the video. But I do love that you have improved so much quality wise over the years and prefer the way you review movies now. Ive only been watching since 2015 but I love your channel.
To be fair, as a bumfuck yokel in Illinois, a few hospitals in my area seem like they could pass for this hospital. To this day, I'm good on going in them at night.

I like how the only patients in that hospital were Laurie, the razor blade mouth boy, and some babies haha.
Halloween II in my opinion gives me darker vibes in a dark hospital.
This is the best UA-cam horror channel. Seriously
AHHctober is like the new Monster Madness .quality gets better every year
i know im in the minority, but halloween 2 is my favorite halloween movie
Its a really good movie, the 1st person p.o.v is great and the music got scarier and more intense. The problem is the sibling reveal, I feel that really hurt the series in the long run. It took the boogeyman into a cat and mouse game.
I’m with you, I love it to.

The Hospital
- Haddonfield serves a small town so it wouldn't be busy.
- Razorblades in apples and poison candy was a real fear back in the day. You'd bite into the apple (regular, candied or caramelized) and the blade would get embedded into your mouth cavity, tongue, or cheeks depending on how you bite into apples. Really sinister stuff.
Michael Myers
- This is the same night only later. Myers isn't The Shape now, operating from afar. He's in full Boogeyman mode. He's up close and personal here.
Dean Cundey
- He's gotta eat and pay bills, so if he didn't get any big jobs, he would have to take what's offered
Music
- The 80's was the vanguard of synth music. Carpenter was giving the theme this update.
Dana Carvey
- Nice connection
Samhain
- The Celtic-Gaelic pronunciation of Sah-when is fine, but many Old World pronunciations changed as time, language, and travel to the New World occurred. How we spelled and spoke changed, so Sah-when became Sam-hain. It's is perfectly fine. Really.
- The Celtic and family curse storyline came from the novelization, written and published before Halloween II. It's a good idea. Check it out.
TV Version
- The "Stop it. You're ignorant" remark and scream is from the movie on the Elrod's tv set. The overlay with Mrs. Elrod's scream seems to be a creative choice. Myers is just watching Mrs. Elrod's response to finding blood near the sammiches, I guess.
The Eye Shots
- If I recall, Laurie Strode was supposed to have shot near his eyes rather than right into them, which is why you see the glimmer of the metal and no holes in the mask.
Thank you for the review. Enjoyed it.
Thanks for giving me something to do at work.
Halloween 2 is the " new coke " of movies. It was so worried about being more similar to the genre the original film inspired that it didn't do much , then Halloween 4 is like the return of classic coke
Watched Halloween 2 last weekend for the first time. Fell in love with it, one of the best horror movies ive ever seen. I prefer Halloween 1 but its still AMAZING
Love the new intro Doc
I really love this movie personally :) and the Lori and Michael’s relationship is my personal favorite part.
I think I may have an answer to the 6/7 shots at MM.
Perhaps after the 1st one, he reloaded 1 so to have as many as possible for the final confrontation. The scene does cut to shownhim leaning over/down as thought he was loading the revolver.
Then we he tells the sheriff, in his panic, he states 6 since that was his latest memory.
Great video!
🤔🤔
The original premise of Halloween 2 with Laurie living in the high rise sounds like the stalker tv movie that Carpenter made "Somebody's Watching me".
I thought the exact same thing, kinda surprised he didn’t mention that
