Kewl vid, gents. Meshtastic is beginning to gain decent density here in AZ. I'm not sure it'll be beneficial to try and introduce a competitive system quite yet, but it's always good to have alternatives. 73 de AI7UQ
Exactly. Two similar but different systems may cause slower development of range for these systems. They can run on the same hardware btw, so they can be installed easily I think.
Decent density wear in AZ? I live in the valley and have not picked up any signals from other radios.
Yeah rog
Hey, you look like the other guy in this video...😊
Good work on crediting alley cat. Tempted to get another t deck. Not that need one.
good to see you back
Using Ripple, does it still connect to Meshnetwork nodes or is it limited to only other Ripple nodes? Have you looked at the new Ultra Ripple firmware with the maps and group messaging? Thanks.
Doh! Thought you were gonna say that Meshtastic updated the firmware to allow us to see full conversations 😞 06:28
That would be a heck of an update...
Nice experimentation video. Happy Easter, God bless.
Loving the meshtastic content
This is really cool. Seeing as I can’t figure out exactly what the device is, where to buy it, how to configure it, I see something about user coding and software development, and of course soldering, and 3D printing the cases; I would totally pay for a plug and device that could do that. Maybe one of these days we’ll see something commercially for guys like me who aren’t as actually nerdy as my friends think I am, for now I guess I we have DMR messaging. 🤷♂️
it is called a lilygo t-deck, and is available in the us on their website and on amazon in the uk
I just watched Lewis' video, now I am watching this one.
Subbed...👍
I'm sure range could be improved with an external, higher dbi antenna? Your decks look to have internal antennas which would limit range, right?
Whats that tune in the intro? I need it :D
i love how that enclosure reminds me of a blackberry its really nice to see theyre doing that stuff with this hardware
Is this compatible with Meshtastic nodes?
Once again, a super cool demonstration.
Meshtastic definitely getting some air on itself. You already have 109k subs. That didn't take long 😁 congratulations🎉
I really want something like this that doesn't need two nodes but can create a long range mesh for two devices that are in "closer" proximity to each other.
My wife and I are often in close enough range to each other for something like that to be fantastic for comms.
Maybe at some point a cell phone manufacturer will put a LoRa transceiver inside.
That's a big maybe!!
Cool! How ya liking the Anytone 878s?
Another method for Andy and Lewis to stay in contact.....
I already told Lewis
I got a mesh contact who was at 35.000 feet over Bridgend, possibly the pilot of a A380 going from Manchester to Porto, short name SPD3
Interesting to see the other perspective of your test after seeing Lewis's vid.
Interesting concept
u got a new sub . very cool video i look forward seeing more lily T-DECK
Andy I’ve got to ask you a serious question. I really do like your music so the question is do you have a link to your drum and bass collection as I’m so old school.
So back to the video.
hello sir .. i need your advice
i need to transmit and receive a wide range of frequencies
what do i need and it's even possible
Im curious how this firmware will work with a GPS
Hope you had a good easter 🐣 😊
Bonjour, connaissez vous Alex de radio bombe,il est DJ et il joue de la drum and bass? J'ai l'impression de vous avoir croisé lors d'un Paris à Bordeaux en avion, mais peut être que je me trompes.
no clue how you got this to work, I have 2 t-deck, both enters boot loop whenever I tried any versions of ripple.
You have to flash to the address 0x10000
@@andykirby Thanks a lot.. I had tried this already. After watching your video I regained motivation and found a lost comment on reddit stating to install meshtastic firmware first, then install ripple.. which I did and it worked instantly. I do really appreciate you taking the time to help. Huge respect, huge thank you ! It's been months, I even replaced my usb port at some point on the t-deck thinking my issue may have been there.
Meshtastic - unusable chat, no channel or configuration change without webbrowser or app. iOs support beginning from Version 16.
Ripple - no public broadcast (without app?), less fuctionality than meshastic but you can configurate your T-Deck from within, not open source, small userbase. No iOs support overall.
Both have great Android support, but unfortunately some of us plebs only have stoneage old iPhones, but that's a 'me' problem, no offense at Scott Powell and the Meshtastic Network. Developing for iOs sucks for many reasons but not the right ones.
I use still both :D
What you doing with the flipper mate 😊, it is funny you placed it in the thumbnail, last night I went down the rabbit hole with M5stic plus and then the flipper and I thought I wander if Andy is doing something with these 🤣. You spying on my mind ?
Great minds! 😁👍🏻 all will be revealed soon!
Meshtastic for flipper??
@@almightyEsquilax they do run on the ESP32 but doesn't have the radio module as far as I know
The m5 stick is a cracking bit of kit I have nemo on mine 👌 the good thing about them they tiny but powerful 👍
Gotta say, the UI on Ripple for the T-Deck seems way better than meshtastic, but not sure that I would want to switch just yet. Definitely interesting though.
How's the battery life on your T-Deck though? I've got an 8000mAh battery in mine and it lasts like a day, which kind of bugs me.
A DAY? I haven't tested my 5000mAh but holy crap that doesn't bode well. I wonder where all the power is going. probably shouldn't be using the ESP32 but the nRF52 :(
I'm also using Ripple with a 5000mah battery. Speaker removed and GPS module installed. Around 3 days with normal usage, which are 10-20 messages a day on SF8 on 868mhz. But in my area there are nearly no other devices, so no hops that I need to carry.
Meshtastic should give even a longer lifespan. The standard configuration is pretty battery saving configurated. How much radio traffic with other meshtastic devices is in your area?
@@googlenutzer6311lol I didn't even know about the SF (spreading factor). Apparently this can enhance the range by setting it higher, if I understand correctly? Range is actually even more important than battery life, imo. In my area there are 0 other mesh devices. But if I walk 2 km, I see about 2 others when using an antenna of about 3 dBi. I have my 5000 mAh T Deck just a few days in working order but never did a any battery test... Why remove the speaker though? I'm planning on modifying mine to make a switch for the speaker, effectively adding a "silent" mode (like on iPhones). If on, it buzzes only once. Why would you say Meshtastic should give longer lifespan than Ripple? I'm planning on flashing Ripple since it may have less input lag, besides the better GUI of course.
@@arisoda A higher SF has more air time, so you can say it also has more range. It seems that Ripple may have a bug mit SF12, some text never appear in the sending device, while the receiving device got the message already. I removed the speaker to have a lower profile for my case (20mm height) and I never use speakers anyway. I think you can turn off the speakers on Ripple with 'shift+0 -> Buzzer [Off]' and on Meshtastic you can deactivate it or reduce the buzzer time from 60seconds to 0 and everything between.
Meshtastic gives more battery time cause many configurations has fever (less?) update intervalls. As example. A GPS modul on Ripple gives a signal every 0.5 -1sec, while Meshtastic default is 120seconds. Every condfiguration with Meshtastic on the T-Deck shows about 80% battery savings vs. 20% performance. So you have enough room in both ways to increase what you need more.
Input lag is not such a big deal (for me) Meshtastic needs longer too boot (about 5seconds vs 2seconds on Ripple). Haptic performance is pretty nice and relatively fast on both firmwares. Ripple lacks the functionality of the touchscreen, so you need to use the trackpad way more. Don't forget, that 'alt+b' triggers the background light for the keyboard on both firmwares.
my youtube skills are obviously low, I couldn't find this comment, so I wrote a new on. Now I can't find the new one to delete it.
Sorry if there is some doubleposting with basically the same text somewhere here in the comment section.

thanks for the new test again
And some UK jungle music :-)

what is the point of this messaging device - seems alot of hassle when we have whatsapp, can someone enlighten me?
It’s direct communication, instead of your messaging going through a cell tower, internet, meta servers, and back out again.
In other words it's device to device messaging (antenna to antenna) Not relying on masts or any external services to carry the signal/message
Dude you should really add the name: RIPPLE and T DECK into the title. No one can find this video otherwise when searching for these terms....
Interestingly you seem to have an English / Thai keyboard. Very handy if you want to communicate with Tingtong from Tooting
🤣
Wish the screen was matte finish
matte and e-ink and nRF52 chip
@@arisoda great idea as a rf backup! is this design open sourced? We both should be submitting our ideas to the devs.
@@TradieTrev I think so. But know that the software and hardware are made by different people. Both open AFAIK. Lilygo is making the hardware
