I don’t pretend to know all the intricacies of the British society, but as an American, close ties give a pretty good window. I would think, if Charles becomes king it would most likely be the end of the monarchy. It is my understanding that Charles continually engages in politics and pushes personal agendas that many no longer feel the British monarchy should be engaging in. The British monarchy has effectively been reduced to figureheads or national mascots. This was a brilliant and tenuous situation that was cleverly devised to enabled the monarchy to even continue. Charles, by taking “stances”, and engaging in the political forum puts this tenuous “agreement” between the British people and the monarchy in jeopardy. The British public largely sees the monarchy as archaic and there is no place for it in British society. However, Brits do enjoy loving the royal family. For centuries they have looked upon the royals with respect and adoration in many ways. Currently the monarchy is a compromise, dropping the dictatorship part of the monarchy, while keeping the figurehead part. Honestly for a nation that chose democracy and freedom, the Windsors were brilliant in negotiating their current status. But as I said it is tenuous. The house of Windsor serves themselves best by being apolitical, beloved, and non controversial. Charles will challenge this, and engage publicly. This may be its downfall. If he passes it to his son, there is a chance the monarchy will last another figurehead. The Windsors stand to loose a lot of wealth if the Brits abolished the monarchy and the lordships. Which is entirely possible if the king tries to exert any type of perceived “power”. Just my two cents as an observer.
The monarch’s job is to advise, consult, & warn the prime minister. I think it’s necessary for the future monarch to be political & understand how it works. The monarch must be impartial. Who knows if Charles will outlive his mother?
@@michellebaker6302 Perhaps. But, not to more than a casual observer. I am wrong about the monarchy ending, but not much else. Nice attempt at condescension though… no matter how trite and vain. Did you actually have something to add to the conversation?…. Or…..
