I’m just commenting so I don’t get fined. Jk, this Monday post-game video is one of the highlights of the week for quality Seahawks analysis. Thanks, as always, Rob and Jeff
I'm flying in to Seattle to catch this game. I'm taking my 9 year old nephew to his first Seahawks game, he's pumped. I told him there might be 25% Packers fans in the stadium. Thankfully I bought them about a month ago, just before the bandwagoners hopped back on the train. GO HAWKS!!!
Jeff the first I've heard point out that the great showing for road teams in Arizona is due Arizona being the Florida of the West, ie the place people retire to from the northern states. Also people migrated down there due to housing being relatively cheaper over the last couple decades.
Took Mike half a season and moving on from some players, but he really did bring the defense together. Seattle has some tough games coming up though. Green Bay and Minny are gonna be tough. And the Rams always play us hard.
Grubb shows a partial-game glimpse of good OC work (and it was good stuff), and then everyone gets on the Grubb bus. That's not how this works. Grubb had a good 1st half vs AZ, and then the 2nd half the Cards adjusted and Grubb went back into vanilla 'banging head against wall' stuff and the Offense laid eggs again. Part of being a good/great OC is the ability to be quickly adaptable and use different types of schemes depending on how the defense adjusts. Constantly throwing curve balls to the opposing defense. This adaptability issue is the eternal OC problem the Hawks OCs have had. That why I changed the name of Brian Schottenheimer to "Stodgenheimer", since he was "stodgy" in his lack of adaptability. If he couldn't call Russ Cook hero-ball plays, then the Offense couldn't do much. These OCs say, "here's who we are and what we want to do". And then that's all they can or want to do that game. You can't get away with that against Tier 1 teams unless you have a hero O-line. And the Hawks don't have that O-line and likely never will. This stuff I'm describing about Grubb's bipolar work in AZ is by definition average OC work--even though he had one good half. One good half and one bad half equals middle-of-road, and doesn't likely allow you to be a Tier 1 team. In AZ, the Hawks defense made the game look lopsided----they gave Grubb 2 short fields for 14 points. Arizona probably wins that game without the 2 short fields/14 points that they took advantage of. I heard this same type of bipolar cheerleading hype for 3 years with Waldron. Every partial game good half that Waldron had, the cheerleaders would come out and dance then laugh at anyone who didn't celebrate Waldron. This is a classic example of focusing on the Noise and not the Signal. There's only 1 scenario I see that can be justified outside of letting Grubb go in the offseason. And here's the scenario: they bring Grubb back for Year 2 as a test case for "we’ll give you more to work with on the O-line, but you must prove that you’re the rising OC star we thought you could be." That's it. But what's the risk of making this low probability decision? The risk is a possible opportunity cost. What opportunity cost? Well, the cost of missing out on hiring a proven good OC (best case is hiring a recently fired HeadCoach since such an OC hire would provide some years of continuity since those guys are usually not rehired away to be another HC). Missing a possible hiring opportunity like this could be the key to MikeMac having a M.McDaniel-type trajectory versus a S.McVay-type trajectory. An example of such a hire would be what Pitt did with Arthur Smith. Missing out on such a hire could be devastating for MikeMac’s trajectory if Grubb can’t prove he’s the rising star in this Year 2 test case. I don’t think MikeMac will have the trajectory he needs to survive on the long term if the Hawks waste a few years playing the same games with middling offense process that Pete did for the past several years. Now, if no such proven-to-be-good OC comes available, then bringing back Grubb for a Year 2 test case would be a more natural progression and would be justified.
Yeah I thought the stark lack of points scored in the 2nd half compared to the 1st half was concerning. I would give a lot more credit to Grubb this last Sunday if he actually put together a solid complete game, but being on fire in one half and almost dead with vanilla predictable plays the other isn't what I would call encouraging.
@@darkrider962 Yeah, this bipolar OC process is common with many teams. Why average or mediocre is the norm. The NFL defenses are great at adjusting. The great OCs are the ones who can constantly adjust to how the defenses are adjusting and run various scheme types during the game to keep the defense on its heels. With the great potential of Mike Mac's future defenses, the Hawks MUST match that with great Offense to become a new dynasty again. If they stay in the average to mediocre offense territory, then it will put a millstone around Mike Mac's potential. They need to commit to having a great Offense, and that starts at the coaching level. They need to commit to a different process than Pete got mired in for all those years.
I think the Seahawks defense needs a true bluechipper CB opposite Woolen to just blanket a half of the field since I think Macdonald is creative enough to create pressure without an absolute upper tier pass-rusher. In recent games & especially against the Jets Jobe was burned over and over again and a true shutdown would just elevate this so much more than in my opinion another pass rusher
Admittedly I haven't watched more than 3 Rams games, but Fiske does seem to make impact plays a few times a game. Don't tell PFF that though lol. I think his score was in the 50s last I checked. Like the 100th best DT in the league.
PFF is like the Emperor with no clothes. Everyone is afraid to call them out for their BS. It killed me last year when Bobby Wagner had a much better grade than Patrick Queen and Roquan Smith, when I'd see Bobby get beat for 20 yard passes up the seams twice a game. At one point I thought "well maybe for MLBs they value being in the right position on run fits more than coverage grades." But then you see Tyrel Dodsen being rated as a better MLB than Fred Warner, when he was essentially graded as an elite, HOF cover LB. Here's how you know that the grades are trash, it's the 1 free thing they offer lol.
Hey Rob. Seems like if you watch your videos from your blog you don't have access to the like button. I had to click through to youtube. Not sure if there's any way to change that.
PFF is full of hits and misses, they seem to do really well with QB, DL, Edge grades mostly because it’s not as dependent on knowing the players responsible on each play. Given how the LB situation has worked out, and OL performance I think you entirely ignore their grades on certain positions and take what you can from what they do well. It’s a work in progress and I have high hopes they improve but totally agree they shouldn’t be the be all end all to how we look at players.
Rob, what value do you think we could get in trade for K9? I think it's worth keeping K9 and paying him for at least a couple years---but ONLY if measured solid investment in the O-line has paid off. If JS continues with his past/current O-line strategy, then I say we trade K9 and not pay him and instead put his money into the O-line. Putting big dollars on a RB when the O-line is underinvested it not smart cap use IMO.
Due to his very real injury concerns, very little. RB upside doesn't matter much if they can't stay on the field and reliably be there for super important games. It's obviously not Rashaad Penny bad, but there are definitely some similarities.
Hopefully we won’t have to play the refs as well. In the Buffalo game, the right tackle stood up was not called and Kupp had both arms wrapped around the defensive back supposedly blocking him; it was a blatant hold on the winning rams drive.
It would take FOREVERRR, but i wish someone would put together a list of who each person on the top of pff grades are and who their agents are.....i feel like they must get paid off or something because it cant be watching football to get to those grades.
Don’t think you can let K9 or Charbs go. They’ll both get injured and you need depth. When Lockett goes we need to put that money into the line and then both backs will improve but rbs just got injured. Imagine we let 1 go and the other gets a season ended
I think Grubb needs to accept change to stay, otherwise he might just be one and done. I think the only people that were all about Grubb were the UW grads 🤷🏻♂️
Cant speak to the PFF grading, but I have tried to watch their UA-cam shows, and the commentary can get pretty wacky. Sometimes i think they didn't watch the games. Maybe they use AI to analyse some of the film?
The only way we won't have to beat the Rams is if we win 2 of our games and they lose 2. Or less likely we win out and they lose 1. Even if the Rams get beat by the 49ers AND the Cardinals, if we only win 1 of our games we will have to beat the Rams to win the division. Same if we win 2 and they win 2, will have to beat them.
Best Seahawks content on UA-cam
Thank you 🙏
Thanks once again for your great work. Jeff is excellent, please extend his contract for your day-after streams to lock him down for coming years.

Big Fan of Jeffs talks real sense on both here and the HB podcast

Nice job yet again providing the Rob/Jeff Mondays!
Excellent work Rob and Jeff
Amazing discussion! I truly appreciate the time/care you put into these!
Cheers Rob 👍
love your work.
Thanks for the video
My go to combo
Awesome stream - looking forward to beating the Packers!
The Rams Seahawks game at the close of the season is gearing up for a prime time dog fight. I am here for it!
Great coverage you guys. Go Hawks!!
Jeff the first I've heard point out that the great showing for road teams in Arizona is due Arizona being the Florida of the West, ie the place people retire to from the northern states. Also people migrated down there due to housing being relatively cheaper over the last couple decades.
Just pay the guys that are out of contact at the end of the season. Our cap is a mess. Think it’s time for a new GM who is a “run 1st” trench guy
Maybe you remember the 2012-15 Seahawks, average receivers, rookie QB, rejects on defense. It's Seattle Seahawks...love it
I like Jeff, but I love Robbie and that Elvis Costello looking geezer!

Biggest problem with the Rams moving to LA is now they get coddled by the refs like they never did in St. Louis.
Go hawks

My question is... what does PFF think of Daryl Taylor? I'm sure he's in the high 70s or low 80s. :D
Don’t think you can let K9 or Charbs go. They’ll both get injured and you need depth. When Lockett goes we need to put that money into the line and then both backs will improve but rbs just got injured. Imagine we let 1 go and the other gets a season ended
Good show again lads , can Jeff stop giving out and complaining for once ? Who cares about PFF , just enjoy the great win
I think Grubb needs to accept change to stay, otherwise he might just be one and done. I think the only people that were all about Grubb were the UW grads 🤷🏻♂️
go hawks! and resign jones asap, defense significantly improved since he joined
Cant speak to the PFF grading, but I have tried to watch their UA-cam shows, and the commentary can get pretty wacky. Sometimes i think they didn't watch the games. Maybe they use AI to analyse some of the film?
We don’t want PFF to rate our players high. Better to stay under the radar
I don't miss Pete's Bubble Gum Defense. He chews gum while watching his safeties blow coverages and miss tackles.

Chief fans aren’t big Nagy fans.
Woolen will make a play week 18 to win and we’ll go on a run in the playoffs.
We can beat Green Bay!
Dude you’re crazy about trading a rb. Have you forgotten how much Seattle rb’s get injured lol??
It was a super chat question. There’s nothing wrong with discussing it in the slightest. RB depth is easy to find
@ Roger. But good depth? Sure am glad we’ve got em both right now
