True but I really don't understand why smoking crack is such a big deal to people. Seems like they either have a very unhealthy view of drugs or hated him beforehand and just wanted something to hold against him. You can smoke crack once and not be an addict. I would never touch stuff like that but some friends of mine have and it is just a thing they do every once in a while.
The whole Rob Ford thing was hilarious. The only person he was really hurting was himself. I still remember being in the car in Ottawa and hearing his first public denial about the video and nearly crashing from laughing at it. I remember a classmate once wrote an essay about Rob Ford, and how he was his hero for what he did with the garbage trucks in Toronto. This crack story came out later that week.
The funny thing that most people choose to ignore, is that Ford’s primary opponent in his first mayoral campaign was George Smitherman, a man who also suffered from substance abuse. The only thing was that while Ford smoked crack - the cheaper drug of choice for the poor, Smitherman snorted more expensive and purer cocaine powder. I prefer our politicians to not have any serious substance abuse and I was never a fan of Rob Ford, but it was very interesting to see how the media and the public treated one man’s drug habit quite differently to another’s.
The key difference isn't what type of cocaine each man liked. Smitherman was forgiven for his cocaine use because he was a gay progressive who also wasn't careless enough to get recorded by his dealer. Leftists HATED Rob Ford and enjoyed hating him.
People with a *certain* political leaning have shown time and time again that they don't care about scandals, they care abour the political party of the politician committing them. As the saying goes, if leftists didn't have double standards, they'd have no standards at all.
@@tartrazine5 it was honestly easy to poke fun and hate Rob. From lying about smoking crack, to weirdly rallying against putting in bike lanes for Toronto He got so embarrassing that Toronto city council stripped him of all his powers and made him Mayor in name only. He was so disliked, near the end, that when he tried to run for his old position of Ward 2 councilman, he only got 33% of the vote
This mayor is hilarious the part with him defending himself saying he’s married and has plenty to eat at home. While saying I didn’t ask to eat her push on a live interview has me dying!! 😂😂😂😂I’m surprised anyone kept a straight face

I remember seeing him and his brother walking downtown and being amazed at their physiques. Like two human hot air balloons - so big but somehow gliding on the air weightlessly.
I remember one guy stopped me out front a gas station and asked for 5 bucks. He looked like he was in pretty rough shape, sweating a ton. I was like "5 bucks is pretty specific, why 5?" and he said "I'm trying to get some more crack, but my dealer said I need to get him the money I still owe from last time before hell front me again" I appreciated the honesty, and grabbed a 5 from my wallet. Right before I handed it to him I asked "must be some good shit, is it worth it?" The look on his face as he cracked a huge smile and gleefully stated that it was absolutely more than worth it will always stick with me. I'd never do crack, but I feel like I have a decent idea of just how good it feels (albeit, for a bit. Which im sure is then surrounded by horrendous withdrawals) A crazy lady asked me for a few dollars right after that, so she could get some food, and I said no. Rob Ford used to throw a party every year at his mom's house, and invited everyone in Toronto to attend. Each years, thousands would come and were fed and showed a good time. RIP to a legend!
Thanks for another great docu-dram-eo. Despite what Rob Ford said, he was lying, they did ask the correct questions and it's pathetic to attempt to indirectly excuse his behaviour by blaming alcohol.
To be honest, I would take Rob Ford over Doug Ford for 2019-2021 Premier. I assume Rob would of been like, you cannot get covid if your cracked out at home, everyone gets 3 weeks of crack, stay inside, stay safe.

The super inept and unpopular premier. At least Rob was a *dumb* clown. Far less dangerous than a wily one. Did you like Rob's "they deserved it" quote about bicyclists dying? Funny as fuck when you look at his lifestyle and what he died from.
I used to work at a really old restaurant (literally called the "Old Mill restaurant") in Toronto at the time. Rob's first major public party/gathering once he became mayor, was held there. I remember making a bunch of pastries the day before, since it was going to be a large gathering and we needed to prepare a *lot* of stuff. Needless to say, I didn't meet him directly, but it's that feeling of "it's a small world" when you're somehow invariable connected with someone like Rob, even if it's indirect.
In America, Rudy Giuliani was referred to as "America's mayor" for a very long time due to his prominence in the country. It is a reference to Ford's fame.

Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at the TV in silence as he uttered the famous words "I have more than enough to eat at home". In shock just about everyone turning to each other and saying "did he just say that???" One of my most memorable days in the ER.
Fun fact, years ago I went to the same rehab as Rob Ford and actually stayed in the same cabin/room he had. I was there for alcohol but I had staff tell me about how he got friends to bring in booze and fireworks into the rehab in the Muskoka rehab centre and he was just chillin. lol
One reason Rob was so popular was that he listened to his constituents when they had a complaint. Someone would phone his office and complain about a pothole in their area and he would show up with a construction crew and repair it that afternoon.

Nobody probably read all this pointless sh*t but if you did please just take moment and hug the person you love most and let them know you love them.
God Bless You. My mother is a recovering Meth addict. We are influenced heavily by how substance abuse has been protrayed in all parts of our societies. We demonize and demean what we dont understand and when confronted with new information we reject it until we have no choice (assuming that ever comes). Substance abuse is rooted in trauma (often) and our social and political systems havent been sufficient enough to tackle those issues for a long time
It sucks that he died like that, but you should probably always keep in mind that he loved you dearly, and that his addiction didn't taint that purity. At least, from how you remember him so fondly, it seems like that was the case. He kept a job, provided for you, and showed you a great example of a great man. People tend to stigmatize drug use heavily, and that stigma causes people who pick up an addiction to hide it desperately.. And hiding it causes shame, which perpetuates it all. It's a weird thing to try to explain, but I just wanted to say that bit.
I remember when this broke out, I was 13, I barely even knew what crack was and lived on the other side of Canada but this story was so big I remember hearing it everywhere

I was living in Toronto when all this unfolded. It was wild, I remember having to go to city hall to get a parking pass and was wondering what wild shenanigans I'd see...nothing happened. Toronto learned from their mistake and voted in the human equivalent of white bread, John Tory as mayor. No slight at the guy, I voted for him, he's still mayor today, and I truly believe after the antics of Rob Ford, they needed a guy as boring and plain as John Tory. Ontario also went on to elect Rob's brother Doug as premier of the province. He's uh...not great at it!
Tbh, one thing I respect about him is that he totally could have pulled the typical politician move and be all like, "I never smoked crack in my life!", but instead he manned up and was like, "You know what?
I prefer my politicians to do uppers because they might actually get something done
People with a *certain* political leaning have shown time and time again that they don't care about scandals, they care abour the political party of the politician committing them.

I live in Toronto and let me tell you, it s never a dull moment while Rob Ford was mayor. He passed away from cancer in 2016. And now his older brother Doug Ford is premiere of Ontario 😩
and corrupted asf.. rob would beat the shit out of hiim in probably a wrestling match in city hall.. if his only problem was the crack.. hey, he smoked it with black guys.. so he's not racist lol.. he suffered in secret didn't take days off.. honestly.. its really sad how that crack thing ruined his name..
noww we have doug.. and tory.. *rolls eyes.. we're F.. we need a rob ford.
@@npcimknot958 are you tripping, I’d rather deal with the vanilla John Tory than an ignorant oaf who blindly cut corners. The Doug one I kind of get, still don’t want Rob back though. Also smoking crack and making homophobic remarks must make him a saint and upstanding guy, way better than your average corrupt politician.
The real ironic thing is that he actually was a really good mayor and a lot of the bills he passed really helped out the city, but nobody will ever talk about that lmao
tbh i don’t really like the guy that much but it’s impossible to find any info about him online cos everyone just wants to talk about the crack scandal 🙄 seems like this isn’t the most popular opinion but idgaf about him using crack at a party like one time lol
@@666_cthulhu yeah Its overwhelming but if you look at all the bills he passed and changes he brought to the city its all a positive record, Sad that the news never picked up on that though.

Sounds like the crack thing was a calculated move to take him out of the running, especially if he was popular
@@josedorsaith5261I actually looked into his bills and this guy was a legend he also let people know what their taxes were going towards to help politicians freeload I can’t believe they tried to ruin this man maybe good politicians are bad for the bussines or something but he seems to of done his job well
