I love the older style slip joint knives. I have noticed that opening a blade to its half way point sometimes allows you to see the tang stamp better. Thanks Fred.!
I've carried a peanut exclusively the past few years. They have gained a decent following on the forums. Mine is in the CV, which I prefer because it gains a patina and develops character over time. The peanut has become my constant companion and although I have many other knives, the peanut will always be the one I walk out the door with.
love case knives...my new job prevents me from carrying any blade over 3" so I'm back to my old case stockman pocket knives...and really enjoying them!
Nice review. I've been carrying a Peanut for over 2 yrs now. No issue with the shield coming out. I started with the "Peanut Challenge" where you carry just the peanut for an extended period of time. I didn't find it lacking. I refer to it as the, "little big knife". I also carry a larger clipped knife, but the peanut is there every day regardless. It doesn't raise eyebrows if I have to use it in public. It's opened packages, made hot dog sticks and it's even done some feather sticks for fire making. I have the CV and the Tru Sharp. In real life use, I don't notice much difference in edge holding. I like that it disappears in a pocket and you don't even notice it.
I just got one in yellow for Christmas form a UA-camr! It's my first Case ever, I think it is a great little knife and a very nice knife. I did a little video on mine just to say thank you, I am so glad you did this review! Thank you Fred!
Beautiful. I want to add a Peanut to my collection, probably a blue bone or a Bermuda green bone. The amber bone with peach seed jigging is classic, though -- I have that on my medium stockman. I agree that the info is fascinating. The Case College tab on the factory website provides a wealth of information for Case lovers and collectors.
I left my peanut at home when I left for college because I am rather fond of it and didn't want to lose it, came home in December to find my stuff was moved around a bunch, still can't find it so I will probably get another one.
I have about 30 Case knives and on only one did the shield pop out. I was lucky and found it in my pocket. put it back in with a dab of super glue and never had another problem and that was 3-4 years ago and I carry that knife at least once a week.
Let us never forget that the intended purpose of the pen blade was sharpening ink quills. If you're a writer of any kind, this is a wonderful nod to your ancestors to carry a pen blade.
Either that or letter opening, or just keeping it razor sharp and having an extra razor blade on you everyday. You could use it to clean your fingernails.
My EDC is a Case medium Stockman, but my first knife was an (Imperial) Peanut. If I couldn't get a medium Stockman, a Peanut would be my immediate second choice. Great little knife. And a good video!
Great video. I really like this knife, I do not own one but I recently purchased a mini trapper and I love it. its a sparxx white version, the synthetic instead of bone or wood. Could you possibly do a review on a sparxx white version? I've only seen one video with this style and I would love to see more. Thank you.
I use the pen blade on the knives quite often for sharpening pencils and opening mail. I wonder if the people who work at my post when I'm not there would notice if I stopped sharpening the pencils since I bring my own pen. I work private security and unfortunately just like in school my coworkers steal pens from the post so the client started providing pencils which solved the problem but we don't have a sharpener. I don't use the pencils but sharpen them out of courtesy to my coworkers.
Unfortunately, now Rough Rider make comparable quality knives at a much cheaper price! I've never seen a case knife that I feel is worth the money ! I think you are really paying for the name ,and obviously American Labour? Shame as I think this brand is heading the way Schrade went?

Scratch that... :P
Got one for my dad for Christmas! The bone handle is really elegant and the size is perfect for what he likes to carry. Great little knife!

I just use it to sharpen pencils since I don’t write with quills. I do use pencils for school though.

Why can't case after 100 yrs get a blade centered. Good video brother

Thinking about getting one after viewing your excellent review but over here in the UK they cost a little over $80.
Case should pay YOU for this review. Thanks.
your reviews are awesome mr. fred!!
Cool little blade. I have never owned any of them myself. I have to have a knife with at least a 3.5 inch blade for EDC.
My EDC is generally large too but I love to collect these little guys. Thank you so much my great friend!!!
Currently on sale (clearance?) at Lowes for ~$17.99

I like Case Knives. They're cool looking little Knives.
I have the 6220SS Amber Bone Peanut and the nameplate fell out. I could not find it so I just sent it back to Case today to get the emblem replaced.
