It was not the video I expected, it was better than anything I could have imagined, it really fits the lyrics.
I love how this video perfectly encapsulates how it feels to be alone and struggling with your own mental health issues and the feeling of loneliness you get from both experiencing that yet also being in a large group of people. I think that’s what the vampire analogy kind of meant.

I've noticed a lot of people here interpret the song here, but I haven't seen anyone talking about the whole religion thing. Actually when I listened to it for the first time I was pretty sure it's about God and disappointment in life and religion. "she" is someone opposite to God, demonic maybe or just very down to Earth, and I thought the refrain is an appeal to God. "What did you think when you MADE me this way?" and all "you're my religion" thing closer to the end.
Idk, maybe the whole theory is a bit strained, but I really wanted to share it. Sorry for the bad english.
I think all the band members are atheists and made 2 songs in celebration of that. I doubt they would have a soliloquy with God here now.
I think they are, but you have consider: people are still raised with religion, so being atheist is a conscious decision, opposed to believing in god which is just sticking with you've been taught.
In other words there's always a reason why one became an atheist. For me it's been disappointment in god for letting me suffer crisis in my childhood and I think at least for Connor it'd be the same. Wouldn't be surprised if losing his mom and his depressions are what made him an atheist. Thus I don't see them being atheists to necessarily contradict

For me those words were like why did God made me this way, not straight, just an awkward shy unpopular person who sucks in everything. I believe in God, but I am not really religious. The first time I saw this video and found out the truth, I didn't expect it. Now after hearing the song again and reading the lyrics, it all makes sense. The entire song is about vampire love, and so is this video. And the EP is being released in October. And you know what else is in October? Halloween. These guys were ready for Halloween for months and I didn't even know. My dumbass.

My interpretation (considering the song lyrics, after only seeing it once - I'll watch it more to get a better understanding but for now...)
So we have our protagonist, innocently and neutrally finding his way in the world - or through the sad. And this man arrives at this beautiful, sexual place where a girl immediately snatches him up and he experiences something great with her (el sexo). But once he has done this he really has an awakening where he finds something euphoric in everyone and everything. But now the girl is missing from the picture he's extremely isolated from the rest of the temptations because he's sort of bound to her per say... But it's hard because she's opened his eyes to feel yet taken him for herself at the same time and I'm sure he can only wonder 'what did you think when you made me this way?' That pause where he's sitting surrounded by empty chairs is stunning by the way. So he starts to not cope too well at all until he finds her again and now she's a vampire and he is too because they symbolise the toxic 'to have and to hold till death do us part' notice the US - if he feels trapped in this unworldly, purely sexual relationship and just goes with it despite wanting everything else outside of his chosen companion - then he is every bit a part of the Cullen family as she is.
Now I hope I made some sense here. And I'll probably completely change my mind about this theory later. Anywho... Amazing work as always!!!!

Interesting, I had no idea per say did that in writing - I'll 100% take that on board. I know the lyrics quite well so I think they really shaped the way I saw the video - I showed it to my mother and she thought that the video was purely about isolation (she hated the vampire bit haha.) I think my favourite lyric is "There's just something about the sun, it seems so very very boring" because holy hell a) damn that's a sexy thing to say for some reason and b) nooooo don't give in to the darkness of your toxic relationship!!
